Thank you so much for the support with our Etsy store that we shared last episode! We still have a few jars left of Erin's special whipped tallow & shea butter, if you'd like to give it a try, here's the link! www.etsy.com/listing/1784836416/organic-whipped-tallow-shea-butter
Omg guys !!!! You just walked passed me with our Christmas stocking ,, I didn’t realise it was you guys till you passed 🥰😎 Scoutie looks so cute and omg Rob I didn’t think you was so Tall 🤭🤣🤣😎 Erin your glowing beautifuly too ❤❤❤❤ Have a awesome weekend 😎
My Bluetti AC200 is 3 years old now, been around Oz in a Landrover and powered my shack. Over the past 20 years of solar/hydro/generator use and a litany of burnt/failed controllers, acid batteries and cables it is such a relief technology has finally improved. They should be good battery wise for about 10 years, by then lets see!
Lived on solar for 22yrs up in Qld a long time ago! Loved it, only had a small system but it would power everything we needed to live a comfortable life. The only time we needed to start a Geni was after a week of cloudy, wet weather. That system lasted 30yrs and was gradually replaced with a more simpler system when the 12 batteries 2v cells depleted their cell recharge life. A new system was then put in place where batteries were divided into 2 x 12 v systems in 2 seperate areas on the farm and to my knowledge they are both is still going, although I no longer recide there! Did not sell back to the grid as it was no where near the property, to do so!
Another great video Rob and Erin 😊 the syrup looked so tasty. That setup looks unreal most of the grid connected solar systems I’ve come across shutdown via a relay in the inverter when it stops sensing mains voltage and you’re therefore stuck in a power outage regardless of having a battery. This setup looks sick, essentially you’ve got your own own UPS for the whole house.
Well done. Looks great. We used Genr8 for our solar and battery installation. Great guys and thanks Nathan. The Bluetti battery setup also looks very good. We will look into that as well.
So glad you've been able to do this. Interesting your comment on overcast/rainy day solar panel performance. I have a 1996 Super Roo Outback wagon I've fitted out with a removeable 160 watt panel, 75 Ah lithium battery and 20 amp dc-dc controller etc. The three main power cables have manual circuit breakers and all outlets through individual fuses. I was amazed when I discovered first thing in the morning, under the low carport, the sunshine at maybe less than 10degrees from horizontal was causing the solar panel to turn on it's dc-dc recognition led !; meaning it was generating over ten volts minimum or maybe even 13 volts. 😇
Love your channel. That Elderflower drink looks great. Love also watching your adventures on the other channel. It's nice that you show us your family with the little boy. I am a Tassie person as well, in Deloraine. There is no where else in the world I would rather live.
I wondered why your videos didn't show up and found I was unsubscribed. Not by myself but I am sorry regardless. It's lovely to see your flowering yard and blooming family. Blessings for the new year ahead and good work on the solar.
You are really living the dream out there. I would love you to do a follow up in mid winter with far less daylight hours. It will be interesting to see what happens to your estimates. I am also wondering whether your usage would justify 3 batteries so you put less power back to the grid and have more at night.
Hi Rob great vlog that window opener for your hot house where do you buy them need one for my hot house good idea. Love all your vlogs Thanks Rob Bendigo Victoria.
at last waiting for so long😀 im your fans here in the philippines im so glad watching your vlog nice family nice place everything take care always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ by the way im 55 yrs old already mother
Looking forward to your episodes. We have learnt with our solar system, the best savings are gained by carefully using power at the off peak time and or midday when the solar is normally best. We don't have a battery yet. Better have a look at the Bluetti and see how it compares. Till next time....👋👋
Yes becoming a producer definitely makes you look at your consumption. We thought we would need to be careful with when we allow the battery to recharge via the grid in the event of foul weather but we have found we haven’t needed it. Now we just ignore all on and off peak because the battery is in control of us when we need it even doing dishwasher after tea, powering the tv and lights before bed, then showers in the morning, toaster kettle ect. Then the panels kick back in and do there job topping it back up. 👍
such a calming watch.....love it we harvest elderflower, quince, and blackberry from the hobart rivulet (they don't spray due to platypus) and i figure we're doing our bit from stopping the tasty invasives from spreading further. 20 litres gets us through a year inc a few small bottles as gifts. having just added 8kW of solar myself it's a joy to sit and watch the app on a sunny day while sipping the elderflower
Good investment to the future and remember, you have paid the costs involved now and now the benefits roll in. The offset for sure comes with the origin of the financial investment. But we need to make these choices now rather than later. Love seeing Scout grow up in his environment . He is going to grow up a better person than most of us and learn the true values in life . Love the updates. I'm sure Xmas is going to be special this year.
Great informative video thanks! The gardens looking great and Scout looks like he’s going to be a bit of a green thumb in the garden 🙂 Have you thought about getting a soda stream for sparkling water? I love mine and saves having to buy it. The only thing you need to get is the small gas bottles 😊
Your garden is looking spectacular and the chookies are getting so big! Woohoo! Good on ya for going solar. I'm completely off grid with my set up in Hamilton (so lots of sun), have a German made battery bank with 14 batteries so we're laughing in summer, but in winter if we get like a whole week of cloud, we have to run the generator to charge the batteries as the system doesn't get to float, just stays on bulk and less sometimes and the inverter alarm goes off. We also don't use the dishwasher in winter just to save battery storage power. Unfortunately there are times we have to run the gennie to charge up. We have a wired in generator system that turns on automatically when it detects the batteries running below a quarter, it's one of those big industrial diesel gennies so it charges the full bank back up within about 4-5 hours, depending how low the batteries get. But last winter we were lucky to only have to have charged the batteries just three times, even with the short sun hours, there simply were not that many cloudy days in my location of Tas. The foggy periods are the worst though, the panels struggle to get charge as the fog only lifts super late and then comes back after about 3 hours and some days the fog doesn't even lift! 🥴
Admirable solutions, Rob and Erin. The government loan guarantee and subsidy allows the homeowners and everyone in the State of Tasmania to meet better energy and environmental outcomes efficiently and effectively. It's not a stretch to imagine future challenges, like the recent storms that really demanded your energy solution, (it wasn't just the egg incubator!) winter storms or summer drought, when Tasmania had to import energy from the mainland, from a lack of water in the dams to provide both energy and water concurrently. Scout is an unexpectedly early hand in the home economics, sweet as can be, a wholesome and happy beginning for him. How's the bush near home, Rob and Erin? Are there indigenous edible foods endemic to the neighbourhood, if volunteer plant nurseries supply stock you could grow at home, keeping up the attraction to the birdlife, maybe not so much the nightly marauding furry fruit thieves, we'd had a baby ringtail eating just the peel of a lemon in it's tree, hopping loudly to and from steel cladding fencing. Cheers, looking forward to further garden and home developments, inspiring young people, youse! 😁👍
Thank you both for this great post, and looking forward to the next. just one question - in the heading you have EP760 am I missing something I can only find 8 posts? 😕😊
@@robinsbrookhomestead Oh boy only I would make such a mistake my granddaughters would laughing there heads off. I am sure you get to episode 760. Thank you for the reply. 🌺🌻🌼
Yep, agree with the calcs. My system will pay for itself in 5 years. I paid £11k for mine (not sure on conversion to dollars) but yours looks very cheap. I get normally £500 payment for export each year. My company paid £250 for any referrals. I earned £1000 from that selling 4 systems to people I knew. We have gas and electric. I was paying £330 a month for both. I now pay £100 a month and with the DD per month that covers my total usage. Even in winter on dark days it does produce some electric. Would love to share usage graphs but cannot on here.
Can you use your battery when there is a power outage? After the storms we had (in Tas yes) we were out for 10 days, yes I have solar too but can find a system that will work with a battery and being able to use while on the grid too
Nice vid Rob, Have you got critical loads of your homestead connected to your battery when there is a power outage? As you probably aware you can’t connect your system to the grid during a power outage.
Yep we have our hot water cylinder, lights and a handful of our power switches (which just so happens to contain our Starlink and tv 😉) set up as critical loads in the even of a power outage. 😊 👍
The Bluetti B500 batteries have a 10 year warranty and being Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO) they have a much larger lifespan than other big name brands who use lithium-ion. With LiFePO there’s no maintenance, they’re lightweight and extremely safe, better charge and discharge plus extended lifespan. The panels have 25 year warranty. So I’d say jump on in!

That'll slightly help offset all the plastic and crap you burn while out bush being a different man huh.
Nope same man. Burning a glad bag is not the end of the world. But you’ll take any opportunity because you need it huh
You want to see the power of solar? Have a look at how much you get on the panels on a bright moonlit night. You might be surprised!
Can you use your battery when there is a power outage? After the storms we had (in Tas yes) we were out for 10 days, yes I have solar too but can find a system that will work with a battery and being able to use while on the grid too
Good design. Will you be looking at a hydro system?
Haven’t looked into it
Wow, she's pregnant again. 🙂
How much labour cost for installing the ep760? Please.
Well you go completely off grid and disconnect from the main grid?
Where do you get your dresses from?
Mostly thrift shops! I love ‘Daughters of India’ outside of that!❤️🥰

Hey Rob, it all sounds like a great system. What is the estimated life of the solar panels and batteries? Do they deteriorate over time?

Time to get a Bitcoin miner for that extra energy and free heat ✌🏼
Did you get any compensation for advertising these products?
I or you must have missed something. Where did you get $17,100 from? Your total system price shown before is $8,100.
The solar panels were $8,100, and bluetti unit $8999.
