You sir have much more patience than I. However, a good example is the best way to learn and Good Lord knows being humble and patient with these projects go a long ways. Windy, you are a true teacher, nice job!👍😆
Windy has retired from CL models and moved on to Motor cycles. He has allowed me to up load his videos. It is a work in progress, but as I get spare time I get more up loaded. Stay tuned.
wow, the most number of ribs i ever saw. !! im 65, i just got 3 control line planes from brodack. i built them in high school. now im retired and gonna build again... hours to build, ...seconds to crash.. done that !
Windy I followed you in my younger years (I’m 56) in all the magazine articles and have done several CL models and still fly them but I also build RC and am planning on building a Lazy Ace biplane finished in the old school dope finish. My question is I was planning on silk but never worked with it but have a bunch of experience with silkspan, would silkspan provide the strength that say monokote would? I know silk will but just looking for your thoughts of silkspan vs silk? I’ve seen your work in person along with all the stunt guys I’ve admired. I’m looking for that kind of finish.
heeder777 hello. I'm not Windy he is just a friend. To answer your question silkspan is the best choice. You could also use polyspan but uses a little different technique. Go to Stunthangar.com with all your questions.
heeder777 it depends on what your calling strength. Silkspan is stronger as far as torsional strength. Silkspan on gets stronger with age. Tighter and tighter. Monokote only gets lose with age. If your talking about puncture resistance maybe monokote but you will never have a front row finish as Windy says without doing it the hard way. Silk, dope and a hand rub out.
CL Guy I think silk it is, this project lend itself to that weave and texture. I really appreciate your advice and information. Not many people appreciate the finishes on the control line stunt as well as the formula one RC racers. Thank you for your time, great circle of people in this hobby.
Is he using silkspan or polyspan, I read somewhere that modern silkspan is not very good because of changes in the manufacturing process? Yes, I saw that he's using silkspan.
Good Morning Windy, I’ve been watching following U for almost ever!!! Thanks so much!!!
love your TVs and work table nice love spitfires.
Dope!

All I know is he's deathly afraid of Karen finding out he's using dope in the house...

CL Guy thank you sir, I love silkspan but this is a large 72” bipe. On the fence regarding the strength of the two materials.

I think Windy used all butyrate dope on his planes. You can find it at Brodak.com
Instructive video, thanks. Which dope did u use, nitrate or butyrate?
aircraft spruce sells nitrate and butyrate by the quart...
what year this video was recorded?!
I'm guessing early 80's.. reference to vhs tapes..
