We are taking on van life! On May 14, 2020, We celebrated three years together, and Claire wrote a check for this 2013 Ford Transit Connect, using the money we made from our art, furniture, and clothing sale. We’d talked about getting an adventure van ever since we started dating three years ago, and when March 2020 came around, we said: “let’s do van life.” And like most big ideas that pop into our heads, if we say we are going to do it, we surely will do it. Two months later, 90% of Claire's art is sold, 85% of both our wardrobes are gone, and Chad is sleeping on the floor because he sold his bed. In return, we have this stunning van, and we can proudly say that we are homeowners in a sense. We are already designing the interior layout and organizing our route around the U.S.A. Our current plan is to visit all 48 contiguous states, from August 2020 to July 2021, and then catching a plane to spend 2 weeks in Alaska, followed by two weeks in Hawaii to end our 1 year of travel across the States. Because of the current circumstances, we knew it wasn’t smart to travel abroad, so our plan B (van life) was the perfect solution to continue social distancing, while also being able to travel to see the beauty of our own backyard.

Can't wait to see how you build out your van. I too recently bought a Transit Connect 2011 and watch every video I can to see how to build it out. I'm much older, and less confident in my abilities, but I have hopes that someone will show me step by step instructions with visuals to give me the courage. Looking forward to seeing what you do.

Buying my 2013 Transit tomorrow! Found it by chance - a bit nervous & excited. Been a long dream of mine to travel the USA. Just turned 66 (what?) & will leave my library job in the near future & begin... Cannot wait to see how you fix up your small space. Hope to get some fun & practical ideas! Thanks for sharing.

Omg that's so cool! My boyfriend and I are literally in the same spot you guys are at right now (bought a ford transit connect, sold almost everything, put in out 2 weeks at work) we are hoping to make it out of Wisconsin before Winter hits. Do you guys have a date in mind? with Covid and California fires and tropical storms, we are kinda stuck...
No way! I guess we had the same idea haha! I've heard the Wisconsin winters are WILD! We actually left two months ago and have been on the road since. COVID hasn't prohibited us much, especially since we're playing our part to social distance and hit up the outdoors more than cities. We are currently in New England, and we 10/10 recommend it! The autumn here is gorgeous!

Thank you so much! Yes- so we purchased our van with 202K miles on it! Fast forward three months into our USA road trip, we are now at 211K!!!

Hey! We purchased the van and actually found it by accident. We were driving to look at a van we found on Facebook Marketplace, but happened to drive past a small used car lot on our way back and stopped to look.
@@ChadandClaire I know that's great....but you sold your personal items pretty quickly....what method did you use for selling them......I have been trying to sell stuff for a year...
@@alvaradacosta293 Facebook Marketplace all the way! You can message and schedule pick-ups from other locals, and they can pay with cash, Venmo, or Cashapp! And then we did also sell a couple things through our Instagrams.
