Before and after replacing thermal pads compare test
Replacing thermal pads on Asus 3090 (white edition) 24gb graphic card, stock ones on front & back side.
Front replacing with 2mm around processor & 1,5mm on sides, and rear also with 2mm & 1mm. This one 3090 does not have thermal throttling problems, and works perfect, mining up to 126 Mhs on Etherium, but the main problem is temperature of memory, Ram memory (Junction Memory temperature), it is very high, and in some times it hits 108-114 celsius degres. This is definetley not good for your memory and it will burn part of your cells after while.
After replacement new pads, results are very good. In same overclock setings that are tested before temerature hits up to 112 celsius, and after replacement, on same setting it hits only 88 celsius, and that is cca 20 degress less than before, what is amazing results. Stock pads are obviously not so good quality, and it is good to replace and upgrade, your card will be thankfull!

Swiss people swim in money , go and buy 20 thermal pads kits and give me at least 2 or 3 as a present .

yo Kruno, u did a great video again! I replaced the pads and thermal paste from my eagle 3080 ti watching your 3080 replacement video. Its impressive these expansive cards have so poor pads and in this particular asus strix does not have a coper heatsink.
Thanks for nice comment! That true, for that amount of money they dont have coper and thermal pads are one of worst. Only on Evga I see pads that doing good job for long time :/
tbh, the pads are the least issue..not necessary to change them at all.
the impact is the thermal paste. For some reason, basically all manufacturers are shipping their products with the worst paste ever. My msi ntb with 3080, i just changed paste on gpu and cpu and immediately gained 10% of performance
But if you opening your card, you will not just change the paste, do it all and you are safe and clear ob that side
@@KrunoEti yea, kind of…with a new card, not necessary, nothing wrong with the new pads that are there..considering that Asus has pretty good stock thermals.
I would just change the paste and wait with pads for a second round
@@johny5400 dont know yours, but mine was disaster and high temperatures, so i change it, beter to do it in one shot, than opening again after year

I used 2mm on the front but i believe some pads are thicker. Can you check if you have contact on all the front components?
Two questions if you see this:
1) Does opening up a GPU to apply new thermal pads and paste void warranty?
2) How easy is for someone who has never disassembled a GPU before like this? My card caps out at 83c which isn't terrible but I feel like maybe some newer thermal pads/paste after two years would do some good for the temps.

@@KrunoEti I know I'm super late to reply but I actually moved the location of my PC and the airflow alone helped, temps haven't touched above 72c since the move. Might still replace thermal pads and apply new paste since I got this card in Oct. 2019, I'm assuming there's still room for improvement on temps even if it's only minor.
Edit: Also forgot to mention that at times my temps were actually hitting 88-93c since my computer was barely above the floor, situated between my desk and bed (which was the cause for such insanely poor airflow, absolute dumb mistake on my part for being lazy).

the screws on the die's mounting spring mechanism are smaller than the rest and the screwdriver is not small enough for them. Couldn't unscrew them with the suggested screwdriver.

Why didn't you put a thin strip at the backplate end? You put two little pieces one on top and one on the bottom 345-347 wheres hole middle section
Great job and very nice detailed video but for gaming for like 1 to 3 hours is this worth changing pads and thermal?
Probably not, if you dont mind about temps, or loosing some fps

Awesome video! One question I had was what size pads for the front side of the cooler? You showed the exact size and location for the backplate, but then you didnt do the same for the cooler side. Let me know, thanks! Great content!

@@sangyuenlim2504 just buy 1 large 2mm pad and 1 large 1.5 pad it will be enough for the gpu and you will have so much more left to replace again the future

I would like to make sure that the thickness of the pads will be right for those cards, considering that they come from different brands. I read online that (1,5mm) is good enough for both sides of the cards. What do you recommend?

Best way is to open and measure them, mine pads for this model is mentioned in video, 2mm, 1,5mm and 1mm, replaced like that and results are great
HmM gonna put mine in a waterblock will be some work for sure just afraid I wont get contact which can cause some dmg in long run!

My secong question is why those fan they won’t stop pin??? Even I am not gaming liked my old Rtx 3060 they stop pin the fan when is not gaming,, did you known how to turn to auto fan ??

Use some accoho to clean, and for auto fan use afterburner
The contact release in the pads is more easy if the card still hot... 🍺

Normal cross screwdriver is ok, and best way to know exact shapes and sizes is to open the card, and before that have prepared thermal pads

Would it be harmful to apply the pads straight to the memory (for precision) vs doing it on the backplate and cooler
whatewer you want, but it is important that sits perfectly and no place between cooler and memmory, so you can get best results
Hi, great video I have a doubt about the pads on the front side I get that the ones around the processor are 2mm and the ones on the side are 1.5mm but what about that middle one, the one between the processor and the right side.
That counts as side or around the processor?
I fell the stock one more thicker than 1.5mm

great video, i think of repaste my rtx strix 3090 too, but looking at the temp.... i run mine under full load with stable diffusion at 71C max,..... i wonder how it comes to 88C deg for you now. i have a y60 case.... not the best airflow but working. so 70C seems fine to me.

Are we talking of Vram temps or processor temps?
@@KrunoEti good question, ... i mean the GPU Temp nvidia-smi reports on my Linux console... must a a cumulative value for GPU-Ram and GPU-Proc et all.

i also use strix 3090, upgrade pad to gelid extreme but it only drop 5c. now at 102c. Is gelid extreme not good or im doing it wrong?

100x100mm from each size will be fine, always better to got more than open card and you dont have enough
Typical Asus, the backplate which is supposed to dissipate the heat from the memory is made of plastic. No wonder it runs so hot.

Hello i know this video is quite old but do you possibly know if it is possible to take of the led's on the front of the gpu, possibly in the form of a strip or pcb in order to replace it with another? I bought a used card and was hoping i could open it up and replace the discolored led's.

I think it is some kind of aluminium that looks like plastic, cheap aluminium, and its not sound like plastic when you knock on :/

@@KrunoEti Thankyou for the update :) , followed ur exact method but with Gelid Extreme pads and got similar resuts on the same card , thankyou again for the tutorial , first time doin this and your tutorial helped a lot (after repad i never surpassed 92° on memory with 75% fans ) its been 3months

Also, see where the pads need to go ON THE BOARD, then put the new pads on the components on the board, not the cooler!
Then you for sure know they cover 110%

These card is like radiator, imposible and never cool down, Im avoid them

If it is inside one it is 1mm, from booth side, outside one is 2mm
