    You're doing a fine job matey.
    I no longer see weeds & overgrown grass as a big problem.
    I see them as next year's compost.
    I've already filled one of my 1m³ bays, as plots each side of me don't compost their weeds!
    I mix them with grass clippings & cardboard, which gets hot enough to kill any roots & seeds (over 50°C)
    Just put 5cm of wood chip on top of the paths (if you can scrounge up corrugated cardboard boxes, put two layers of that down first) & most of the weeds will be stopped.
    Great thing with wood chip is as it breaks down, it feeds the soil organisms, which feed the plants. I've been amazed at how cabbage & cauliflower roots seem to love the soil in the paths, as they spread more there than in the beds. Must be something in the decomposed wood chip they really want.

      Thanks! I've got two plastic compost bins but am thinking of changing them and making larger pallet compost areas. Possibly two so I can turn the compost into the other. Yes, I agree that weeds should be composted, if you can ensure the compost gets hot enough. I may get a cheap thermometer to check the bins temp. Both of them are completely full, although I could've put a little more cardboard into them. Thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge, it is much appreciated 🙏🏽😊

      @@LifeAtTheHamids I've found 1m³ bays are about the minimum needed to get real heat, so yes, pallets make good size bays but will only last maybe 3 years unless you line them with something impermeable.
      The 50cm long thermometer's the one to get & less than £8 on ebay.

    You are certainly not letting the grass grow under your feet 😅. Great job and soon you will be reaping the rewards of your efforts. I hope Daphie and the baby are well and hope she can get some much edged sunny days at the allotment, happy gardening 👨‍🌾, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

    You should put some cardboard down before putting down the wood chip to suppress the weeds. Great job on the garden!

      Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately I carry out the work and process the videos after so the tips sometimes come after the job has been completed! I have already had an issue with weeds coming up 🤦🏾‍♂️. I got lazy and hoped an extra thick layer would do the job, clearly not. 😅

    That strimmer looks like it does a good job, would you recommend?

    • @LifeAtTheHamids
      @LifeAtTheHamids  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes I would! It's the cordless Titan strimmer from Screwfix. Get an extra battery depending on how much area you need to cover.

    You are doing an excellent job. A question, what are the hoops made of that you have over the first bed in your video?

    • @LifeAtTheHamids
      @LifeAtTheHamids  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks. The hoops are made of plastic. They are quite sturdy, but I think the 15mm mdpe plastic pipe is cheaper. I plan to use that to make a larger hoop structure that will cater to taller plants.

      @@LifeAtTheHamids Thank you Hamid, I use the half inch blue water pipe on my allotment but the pipe you are using looked to be less bulky.
