I love the group, sometimes there are really interesting questions/conversations going on. I’ll fully admit to eyerolling on some of the questions, but for the most part, it’s a great community.
I really appreciate how vigilant you both are to nipping certain topics/comments at the start before they get out of hand. I’m tired of hearing how a person/government/entity is to blame for people not wanting to buy someone’s stuff😑

I am the rolex guy, i left the group because people attacked me, called me a lier & dogpiled me. So i thought it wasnt worth trying to help others when i was only getting only negative results. i own 5 & am a rolexs, & am expert & they all said i was an idiot & wrong so i left the group. I am happy to prove that i own the watches but why do i have to expain myself to people on the internet who are rude ro me when im trying to help them?!😅

I asked a seller once to send an item to a second address. It was a book I was buying from the author as a Father's Day gift and he signed the book and mailed it to my father for me saving me shipping costs.

I 100 percent respect your professional response to the not-delivered question. I think a lot of people probably worry about having happy customers, but both buyer and seller are customers of eBay. By politely pointing the buyer to the eBay claims process, you are keeping the seller happy and informing of the process to be made whole. And by involving eBay directly, the buyer knows they are dealing with a reputable seller. If they were afraid you scammed them, you are putting your reputation with eBay on the line to say eBay knows I am a good seller who doesn't scam.

I've sold those boxed cars like the one in your example and you are exactly right! in that case, you do your checks to make sure it's genuine as much as you possibly can, and also you're checking that the car has not been "customized" by the owner - which is different from customization by after market companies. The former might have a lower value, and the latter may have a higher value than the original. Also: checking the color of the car (and tires) is important as the "Green" car may have a different value than the "Silver" car. Best to check back over history on that variation, to see an average over time for sales of Green vs. Silver. With some cars in some series, it could be the difference between a real diamond, and CZ: both have value, and one has a much higher value than the other.

The major problem with Media Mail is NO INSURANCE! Some "media" items may also ship cheaper with Ground Advantage Cubic Rate. As you mentioned on other items, you need to do your research.

    • @shedflips
      @shedflips  3 місяці тому +1

Yeh for sure, I've seen plenty of cases where GA was either cheaper or close enough to make it worth it because of the insurance. We still use media mail a good bit though, we sell a lot of media under $30 that insurance is not a huge deal on.

Changing addresses: you answered that one well. I may not do it on a $220 item headed to a Delaware Drop Shipper. Or if the new location is more expensive to ship to, but generally have no problem for a $20 long tailed item I’m glad to see gone or if the person’s last name at the new address is the same as the buyer’s and it comes with a request to send it directly to an obvious family member, to save the cost of re-shipping a gift.

I am very new to reselling, and I think I have gotten a lot of value from the information in UA-cam videos (yours and several others). I have been looking for a Facebook reseller group though so that i can get more specific information, because 99% of the time I watch UA-cam on my TV so I don't even see the comments. After watching this video yesterday (on my TV) I sent a request to join the group and was denied with no explanation.

COPO Camaro: The toys are nice, but the real thing was/is impressive. COPO stands for Central Office Production Order. The idea was to give your Camaro Super Power, by outfitting it with a 425 hp, 427-cu inch motor. COPO's were a “limited run” of special non-standard vehicles.

Promoted Listings: 3 answers here: Test, Test, and Test. Keep in mind that either you or the customer is going to pay for the promotion so I would BEG sellers to ensure they have adequate coverage for that promotional cost in their markup. If something has a "short" markup (lower than your usual %), you might need to increase the asking price to cover the cost so you don't kill your margin. And test the numbers. I think that some of the Suggested percentages from eBay are a bit pie-in-the-sky for my categories, so I always test below, or just up to that number. I can't think of a case in which I would allow eBay to automatically adjust that number for me because I want to know approx. what I am spending to get that sale. I run a promotional % test for at least 2 weeks if not 4, to give time for it to change in the product database, and to see if it's making a discernable difference in sales.
    .
And one very important thing to remember is that in the long-term, your marketing expenses are deductible on your Schedule C, and you have a "receipt" for those expenses on your monthly eBay invoice.

I had a customer swear she did not receive a package during the holidays. We tracked it as delivered and checked all the possibilities. She finally said she had it, but she thought the box would be an eBay branded box. It was a plain white box and she had so many orders arrive she hadn't opened anything. Sometimes we just can't fix stupid!

Yeah I went into my local charity bookshop and they were selling a supposedly 1920’s 1st edition of a magazine. It wasn’t even in a ziplock bag. She said it came in with a load of other magazines. I have to tell you it was absolutely perfect. Not a single crease, and the staples were perfect Too perfect. Sorry, but there was no chance that had survived in that condition. All I could hear in my head was “Danger Will Robinson!!”
Also, you faded off the instruction into where you were searching for the actual sale price.

A research question for you that you brought up: are there types or categories of products that you will *only* look at either Auction or BIN sales results, and not both? I sell in different categories than you, so I have likely a very different answer. I'm curious how you folks do that.

One of my favorite is the topic of shipping Magazines via Media Rate. Most folks will say: Not Allowed because of the Advertising, but as with many things there are caveats and the USPS rules have enough wording to confuse the issue. Here is an excerpt of the language I refer to. The use the word "Incidental".
"Media Mail packages may not contain advertising. Comic books do not meet this standard. Books may contain incidental announcements of other books and sound recordings may contain incidental announcements of other sound recordings".
This why most Magazines, Comics and Catalogs can't ship Media Rate, but if the Comic becomes a "Graphic Novel" and has only Incidental Advertising, well that's different (isn't it) Or why vintage Vintage Children's Subscription Magazines like: Highlights (remember those) can ship Media. They were often ordered out as part of school ready book drives and have only Incidental advertising, usually to get other kids to order or to extend subscriptions, so they are more Educational then Magazine. But Vintage Boy's Life or Life Magazine can't because they were filled with ads, even if the ads are 50 years old.
I can almost imagine a bunch of crotchety old Postal Inspector's sitting around opening Media Rate packages and arguing over coffee about whether to up-charge certain packages or let them pass or even just trying to get a consensus among themselves.
