    Just a quick tip always remove the filler cap before draining the oil because if you find out you can’t get that filler cap off and you drain the oil you’re absolutely screwed unless you can pump in oil from the bottom🤷‍♂️ this is something I have learned the hard way🤫🤦🏻🤷‍♂️

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  5 років тому +4

      Personal preference I suppose. I like to give it a little with the filter wrench. With gloves on I could probably tighten it more by hand so it's not really that tight. If I remember correctly 12 ft-lbs is the target. Ride safe

      @@MotoSouth What are your thoughts on the suspension? I'm choosing between the stock suspension or the SP model, which has a upgraded suspension. ( Here in Europe) dunno if u guys got the SP model?. I've heard people complaining about the suspension being to soft, atleast on the early models. What year is yours, 2018?

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  5 років тому +1

      I have a 2017 which has the updated suspension. It's not that bad if you take the time to adjust it but definitely has room for improvement. Worlds better than the first generation (14-16) but nothing like what's offered on the SP. We still don't have the SP here in the states but I have considered added Ohlins to mine.

    Fantastic video and good job!
    About the oil... don't want to get into brands only asking and need proper answer please, semi synthetic or fully synthetic? What's better for this specific bike? I just serviced my MT09 and the mechanic convinced me to use semi synthetic and i listened but according to my understanding fully synthetic will always be better than semi synthetic provides better lubrication in harder conditions and last for longer in hot temperatures isn't it correct?

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  5 років тому +2

      I use synthetic oils in all of my vehicles, but only after they have had a chance to properly break in. Synthetic or even semi synthetic isn't required for this model and some might argue that synthetic is just a waste of money, but it gives me peace of mind. Tests generally show fully synthetic oils to be superior to both their conventional and semi synthetic counterparts. Just Google motorcycle oil comparison and you'll have enough information to drive you insane. The most important thing is that you choose an oil designed for motorcycles, and with the proper classifications as recommended in your owner's manual. There seems to be a misconception about running synthetic oils in motorcycles because in their early days, the proper additives weren't used to accommodate motorcycle clutches, but modern synthetics made for motorcycles don't have that problem.

      @@MotoSouth Very interesting. I just purchased a 2019 MT-09 and the dealership said conventional oil would be fine for my bike (and most sport bikes). They said synthetic is really only needed for the bigger engines 1500cc and up. So now I'm truly on the fence about what oil to use going forward.

    • @MotoSouth
      @MotoSouth  5 років тому

      Well I worked at a dealership for 14 years and that's the first time I've ever heard that oil varies by displacement. They are correct about not "needing" synthetic but size of the engine has nothing to do with it.

      @Ausblack 2 роки тому +1

      The filters are not meant to be tightened. The shell is not a strong rigid piece. You run the risk of breaking the filter apart when you try to remove it.
      Ive had the threads separate from the body, ive had to remove the filter piece by piece,
      Ive had to replace stripped threads.
