Great video Joe! Thanks for taking the time to put all of that together, I really enjoyed seeing those Chicago stores and checking out all of your cool finds. Well done! Looking forward to your next video. Thanks, D.
I'm pretty sure that Reverberation used to be a house. It certainly looked that way. All three of these stores had their own character and somewhat differing stocks, so it was a pretty cool trip. Thanks for stopping by and checking this out. Always great to connect with you!
Hi Justin. I think that may now be the earliest Split Enz record that I own, and I'm looking forward to hearing it. I really enjoyed all three records stores on this trip. Reverberation was great for having a LOT of rather esoteric/uncommon stuff in house; North Street was SO reminiscent of some record stores with which I grew up, and Waiting Room had a lot of indie, goth, industrial, electronic, etc. It was a good day! Thanks for checking this out.
You (and your wife) are welcome here any time, John. Mine has no interest in record stores, but there's no way you'd ever come visit me without spending at least SOME time digging together! Thanks for checking this out. I'm way behind with video watching, too, so it's an honor to know that you've taken the time to watch mine.
Really highly enjoyable. Man, in that second North Street store I could see a lot of things that really made me salivate. Records, posters, everything -- looks like my kinda store.
love your road trip videos Rob. North Street Records looks like my kind of record shop with great atmosphere with all the memorabilia on the walls and the spinning turntables in the window. I could have spent hours in there. The Split Enz record you picked up is a personal favorite....justin
I was very pleasantly surprised by these stores, Travis. It turned out to be a really good record store crawl! Thanks for the compliment, and for watching!
Thanks Henry. Sometimes, I imagine what it might be like if you and I lived closer and could easily combine our talents. I would be happy to be the big goofball in front of the camera, and you could do your usual wonderful magic with editing. Can you imagine the result? I think we would be a great team. Until we can figure out how to make something like that happen, I muddle through with my own weak editing skills and stand back in awe when I read comments such as yours. Thank you SO much!
Hey Rob, I really enjoyed your video. Very cool trip and visits to all those fabulous record stores. And....awesome music in the end of the video. I didn't know it yet, but I will definately look out for it. Also never heard of the band/artist before. So thank you for playing it! :) Have a great weekend! Kind regards, Ingrid/RockingLUPA, The Netherlands
I appreciate your comments! It definitely helps to know that people are watching and enjoying some of these trips with me. Thanks for that. The name's Rob, by the way. I guess I should say that more in videos and type it more in comments. Sorry about that!
Go to North St. and Waiting Room all the time, but I had never heard of Reverberation, definitely gonna have to check that one out. Always love your videos Rob, good fun. I live between Normal and Peoria, there is a great store in Peoria called Ribbon Records you need to check out next time your in the area. Chris.
Hey Rob , you got the Younger Brother album!! Im really behind watching videos , were having a heatwave and seem to be outdoors all the time! The first video I dipped into was this one and you gave me a shoutout , its so great when someone takes notice of a tip! Reverberation Vinyl is a house!!!! Always amazes me how big your shops are compared to ours and the road shots are great so different to ours! Im off to work listening to Younger Brother in the car!
I'm jealous! Looked like some really great stores. I give you props for the camera work while you were driving! Some nice pickups too. I'd seen many of them before, but the blue Tones on Tail is sweet as is that 242 single. And Monsoon -- for $3! ;)
Great video as always Rob. I like the last shop there seemed to be some stuff there of interest to me - lots of reissues also. Burning Spear and John Martyn, great finds
Great video Rob. Beck & Blur is great traveling music. I'm surprise you still used your CD player instead using the IPod in the car. The first record store was actually a house. Pretty cool. I can't wait for the next vid. You have a good weekend.
I was really excited to find that one. I have 'Let Us Play' and 'Let Us Replay' on CD, but smiled uncontrollably when I spotted 'Replay' on vinyl. Now I gotta find 'Play' on vinyl!
Thanks Chris. I haven't been in the Peoria area in quite a while but, the next time I am, I'll keep Ribbon Records in mind. I appreciate the tip! The next time you're in Normal for North Street and Waiting Room, take a trip over to Bloomington and check out Reverberation. It's a great little store! They have a website to get the specifics. Thanks for watching, and for those very kind words of encouragement!
Great to hear you're a Sheila Chandra fan, too. I've known that Monsoon album since college in the 80s, and have been a fan of her solo career ever since. Most of what I have is on CD, though, except a nice copy of 'Roots & Wings' on vinyl. I was really happy to find that copy of Third Eye. It's in great condition, a UK pressing, and it was only a few dollars!
Hi John! That Younger Brother CD has been on heavy rotation for some time now. I'm REALLY glad you recommended it! Shame it's not available on vinyl. They're Brits, so please contact them and tell them to get to work on that. I await your update, sir. In the meantime, enjoy your heatwave! Always great to hear from you, my friend.
I adore Sheila Chandra! I discovered her when that Monsoon record came out, but I never owned it. A friend of mine had it and played it for me when we were in college. I have a bunch of her Real World CDs, and 'Roots & Wings' on vinyl. Very happy to find this. "Ever So Lonely" is absolutely gorgeous. I didn't know that about her health. What a terrible shame. That makes me sad. She left us an impressive legacy, though.
Thanks Mike! These particular stores are 2.5 hours south of where I live. To be honest, that's the farthest I've traveled for record stores in quite some time. Normally, I've been going 1-1.5 hours away.
wow, Coldcut! Fun video. I found a promo copy of I, Assassin a few months back. Tight, cohesive album; worth infinite spins. I love the fretless bass playing of Pino Palladino. Great atmosphere.
Thanks! For some reason, I drifted away from Numan after Telekon. I've always wanted to pick 'I, Assassin' up, and many folks say that 'Dance' is deceptively good. I found both of these in great shape for $5 each, so it was time. Thanks for watching!
Reverberation (stop #1) was in Bloomington and the other two places were next door to each other in neighboring city Normal. I've got each of the stores links in the info below the video so feel free to check them out. Of course, there are no shortage of record stores in Chicago, either!
I don't know why, but I've never gotten around to setting it up so that my iPod can feed into my car stereo. I've got a JVC 6-disc changer, though, so I usually just load it up with some road trip music and I'm good to go. That first store IS (or at least used to be) a house! Thanks for watching and commenting.
It was cool that all three stores sort of had their own niche. I was really happy with those two finds you mentioned, too. To be honest, I did better than I thought I would, and probably would have brought home even more good records if I hadn't just spent my entire music budget (and then some!) in Milwaukee a couple weeks ago.
I bought a pair of Mirage OM7 speakers a couple years ago. It just took me this long to find a good home for the Vandersteens. My wife is convinced that it's because I really didn't want to sell them. I've had them up on my FB page since the VC page started there! Most stores are pretty cool about filming. I usually try to ask if they mind, which explains my comment to the guy at North Street after I walked in. Good to hear from you!
Yes! The one that I sent you is the 10" release which, strangely enough, is easier to find around here than the 12" release. In fact, I have two copies of the 10" and sent you a third. This was the first time I have come across the 12" in the wild, though. For a couple bucks, I had to pick it up. I hope you enjoyed those Cheap Trick records, Joseph. They are one of my favorite power pop bands.
That record your playing sounds great in your car have to check that out. Daniel Lanois, The Alarm, Burning Spears and Tones on Tails awesome finds Rob
Oh man, my own Father said 'vinyls' yesterday and I just walked out the room with my hands in the air proclaiming 'THE PLURAL OF VINYL IS VINYL' - you've certainly converted me!
Hey Rob, all three of those stores looked top notch. Reverberation looks like it's on a residential street - in a house? Loved seeing all of the store footage! :) Christian Says on blue vinyl - aw yeah. :)
Part 2 ; great finds btw , I have the Floyd Nice Pair , Dr Phang cover as well and Daniel Lanois and Monsoon and I Assasin , i would love to cover that ground with you someday Rob , its clear to me that vinyl has risen more so far in the US than here
It did look that way, Craig. They had great stock, though. Talking to the owner, they simply don't have enough room to stock a lot of the more common records you tend to see everywhere else. That works for me! I think you'd like that store, too.
I was pretty excited to find that Coldcut record. The Numan stuff was a cool find, too. I was a huge fan of the first few Numan record (incl. the Tubeway Army stuff) but kind of drifted away after Telekon. I have been meaning to pick up Dance and I, Assassin for the longest time, and the price/condition was right at North Street Records that day!
My "local" stores are 35-45 minutes away, but I often venture into Boston which is about 1.5 hours. I have been known to travel 2+ hours in search of the wax.
As far as choice records go, Reverberation (shop #1) was my favorite. As far as wall-to-wall music atmosphere goes, North Street (stop #2) was my favorite. All three were pretty cool in their own right, though. I'd return to any of them again. It's a shame they're so far away from where I live!
I drive through Bloomington all the time when I work. I usually am with co-workers, but when I drive solo, I'm thinking I'll need to make a few pit stops!
Do you mean the track playing as I flip through the finds? If so, that was a song called "Spinning Into Place" from that same Younger Brother CD that I showed near the start of the video. Before that, I think I ended the driving part of the video with some Blur.
Ha ha yeah I thought the first one looked cool,I sent the comment when I saw the first shop and then you went to another two shops that also looked great with all the records and posters on the wall I just love those type of shops.
Thanks for the kind words! Most of the good stores around here are within 2 hours of here, and most are closer to 1 hour away. These were a good 2:30 away, which is farther than I usually travel. Of course, when traveling to other states for other reasons, I usually make up some excuse to check out their record stores as well! In fact, I'll be at Encore in about a week, since we'll be visiting my in-laws who live there. Are you in Ann Arbor?
Thanks Travis! Yeah, I bet you would love digging at North Street. Hey, it's ONLY 5-6 hours away from you! ;-) It was a good day. It would have been nice to hook up with MM and the Ruhnows but I suppose there will be other chances. Thanks a bunch for checking this out and commenting!
I know what you mean. I was pretty disappointed that MM was not going to be there that weekend. Such is life, though. Maybe next time. If it happens, you KNOW I'll make a video! Reverberation was cool. You would love it there.
I know you did great in Chicago on the same day but, if we ever have an excuse to be down in that area again, I think you'd find some good stuff at these stores. I flipped by numerous records and thought, "Blake would like this! Does he have it?" Nothing super rare or I would have called you, of course. Still, I saw a bunch of stuff that was up your alley, especially in 12" singles and bootlegs.
Thanks! I think I've been to Wazoo! but I'm not entirely sure. We visit the in-laws at least once a year, so I have managed to scope out a lot of places in AA, including Schoolkids, which seems to keep hiding on me! I know what you mean about Encore's pricing. Great selection, though.
Hey Shawn! No Micky Mouse Disco on this run, that's for sure. You know, I should see if that puppy is still at that Goodwill for a lil Shotgunnrecords VCLT!
cool where is the second place located in Bloomington looks like I got some digging to do next time I go to Chicago for vac next summer going back home to see the family will do some diging.
Believe me when I say, "I wish I could have gone digging that day". It would have been much more enjoyable then helping my mom move. Next time, Rob. -John
Great video Joe! Thanks for taking the time to put all of that together, I really enjoyed seeing those Chicago stores and checking out all of your cool finds. Well done!
Looking forward to your next video. Thanks,
D.
Thanks so much, Lars! Glad you're out there watching some of them. I appreciate it!
Thanks Wes. Always great to hear from you! Thanks for checking this out.
Hi Ingrid! Great to hear from you. Glad you enjoyed the trip and thanks for the kind words about the video!
Those are some of my favorite record stores to go to!!!! Im never disappointed when i go there!!! Great video!!!
I'm pretty sure that Reverberation used to be a house. It certainly looked that way. All three of these stores had their own character and somewhat differing stocks, so it was a pretty cool trip. Thanks for stopping by and checking this out. Always great to connect with you!
Had to watch this again just remember what summer is like.

Gracias, Sergio! E 'sempre bello sentire da voi!
Fun day, I love seeing all the different stores, cheers!
Fun video, guys! Blake has a great looking system! The choices of music were very cool, as well. Thanks for putting this together!
Thanks Lovell! I didn't expect to have such a good day, but I'm not complaining!
Cool stores, Rob! Your videos are always so much fun to watch!

Thanks Trish, and thanks for the mix disc you recently sent me!
I was very pleasantly surprised by these stores, Travis. It turned out to be a really good record store crawl!
Thanks for the compliment, and for watching!
Awesome video Rob. Love watching your road trips.
Thanks Henry. Sometimes, I imagine what it might be like if you and I lived closer and could easily combine our talents. I definitely understand that kind of motivation!
Really enjoyed your recent reggae/dub video, Mike. I'm a big fan of that wonderful music, too.
This video is so good, i LOVE the epic music upon entry at Reverberation.. so weird seeing it candidly shot with no Michael Mayer inside.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me. Thanks for watching!

I want to go record digging with you.
That's the lasting impression after watching this.
Great post as usual.
Cool! I need to get on that! Thanks for sharing the info with me, Craig.
I'm jealous! Looked like some really great stores. I give you props for the camera work while you were driving! Some nice pickups too. I'd seen many of them before, but the blue Tones on Tail is sweet as is that 242 single. And Monsoon -- for $3! ;)
Gary Numan's "I, Assassin" - one of my fav albums of his. Love the track "We take mystery (to bed)"
Great video as always!

I love your videos Rob. Hope you are keeping well, and I still have my fingers crossed for a come back from you one day :-)

Haha! Excellent! I need to send you one of those stickers for subtle placement somewhere in the house.
Omg! What a record store.

Any time, Gary!
If you're ever in my neck of the woods, or I'm ever in yours, we definitely need to dig together.
Thanks!
Great Cheap Trick find! A good dude with a beard sent me that last year!
That's a bit more from the Younger Brother CD that I mention while driving at the start of the video. The track is called, "Spinning Into Place."
Cold Cut, YES!!
cool places.I liked the second place and coul spend hours in there!

My "local" stores are 35-45 minutes away, but I often venture into Boston which is about 1.5 hours. I have been known to travel 2+ hours in search of the wax.
I was pretty excited about that. 10" on yellow vinyl and it was only $3!
ok thanks man!!!
Nice, nice!
As far as choice records go, Reverberation (shop #1) was my favorite. As far as wall-to-wall music atmosphere goes, North Street (stop #2) was my favorite. All three were pretty cool in their own right, though. I'd return to any of them again. It's a shame they're so far away from where I live!
I didn't catch that, but Rick Nielsen is one seriously entertaining individual!
I drive through Bloomington all the time when I work. I usually am with co-workers, but when I drive solo, I'm thinking I'll need to make a few pit stops!
Another thing you need to do, Jill, is let me know when you're back in the area and have time to dig! ;-)
I will SO do that, Rob, thanks!
Do you mean the track playing as I flip through the finds? If so, that was a song called "Spinning Into Place" from that same Younger Brother CD that I showed near the start of the video. Before that, I think I ended the driving part of the video with some Blur.

Thanks Paul!
Any time you want to come visit me, I'll gladly take you to some good record stores over here. :-)
We're practically talking on the phone!
I know you did great in Chicago on the same day but, if we ever have an excuse to be down in that area again, I think you'd find some good stuff at these stores. I do very much so enjoy them! The guitarist was on American Pickers a while back, did you catch it? Good episode.
Hey Shawn! No Micky Mouse Disco on this run, that's for sure. You know, I should see if that puppy is still at that Goodwill for a lil Shotgunnrecords VCLT!

Love these videos, Rob. How far away are these stores from where you live?
Very nice stores! They don't seem to complain that you were filming there. By the way, did you buy new speakers?
Just one? lol
Yeah, I spotted a few myself. We call them "unofficial releases" while we're inside the record stores. ;-)
Ok man
Great set of records, What is the track that plays out?
lightning reply Rob! lol
Where do you live?! I live in Springfield (the capital).
Haha! Which one of the three do you mean?
Believe me when I say, "I wish I could have gone digging that day". It would have been much more enjoyable then helping my mom move. Next time, Rob.
