Not bad on biscuits,I'm the one that gave u the tip on grating the frozen butter. Next tip,when making biscuits,gently combine milk and! butter,the less u work with it the better,coz the more you handle it the more gluten you create, so less is more, other than that great job!
I just went back and watched your first time making and eating biscuits and gravy, to compare to now. You have made amazing progress, from how light and fluffy your biscuits are to how confident you are now in making the sausage gravy. Nice job!
I like biscuits and gravy but more than me, my Mom loved them very much. So now when I eat them I remember eating them with mom which is a great memory. Mom passed away 17 years ago, but show me biscuits and it makes me smile and remember so many precious times with mom. Funny how food can bring you back to a happy place in time.

I give u a 10, these looks so good & the plain biscuits looks just like the biscuits my mom made & she could makes biscuits blindfolded & with one arm tied behind her back. She was a fantastic southern cook & it looks like you've just about perfected making our biscuits & gravy. Those look like a real southern mama made those biscuits u should be very proud of yourself. Proving American biscuits aren't cookies or scones but just little fluffy bread & butter packages u can put anything in them & will taste great, crunchy, fluffy, buttery, goodness & then u add American white sausage gravy to them it's like a warm hug from ur mum or ur gran. So comforting & satisfying, awesome job
You could also make a chicken or beef pot pie filling and put that in instead of the sausage gravy. Make extra and freeze them for those days you may not be able to do any cooking, or a quick meal for Elana. Try freezing them before baking them or baking them, then reheating them and see which ones taste better... just a suggestion... have a great day! 😊❤😊❤
@@Mrhandfriends , really any filling that would be used for pierogi or empanadas would be great. The frozen ones we get here are cabbage and sausage I think? Potatoes and cheese, or pumpkin would be good. All the ingredients in cabbage rolls might be good; Rice, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, sausage, basil? I put my spices and flour into a warm pan for a few minutes before making the gravy if you want to try that. Also use more just pepper. Paprika, ginger, nutmeg and anything else that smells right has gone in. But you're doing well!

Here is a dinner yall can try. Southern version of beans on toast... pinto beans over cornbread, with sliced fried potatoes n onions. Still a regular meal in our household from childhood.
You did a great job Mrs. H!! One suggestion if your gonna do the same thing with Pulled Pork as the filing, you might want to make up some BBQ sauce and mix that with the Pulled pork for the filling, so that the filling doesn't dry out during the baking.
When my (now 33 year old) son was a baby, I always took the early A.M. feeding and nappy change, and when he finally fell back asleep, I would head to the kitchen, half asleep & groggy, and make biscuits. Pinching by hand the lard & butter into the flour -- slowly, mindlessly, half asleep... by the time I 'woke up' there were a dozen (or so) warm fresh biscuits on the counter top! Like magic. I'm so proud of you!!! Well done!

Biscuit Tip: Next time you have to cut biscuits, twist the rim of your glass in a little pile of flour between the cutting of each biscuit and dough will easily fall out after cutting. Good job on the biscuits, I am glad you made them from scratch, they are so much better than the package mix or the refrigerated tube biscuits. I don't know how easy it is to find buttermilk in the UK but you can get buttermilk powder (available online if not in your grocery stores) and add water to make it liquid. It is perfect for baking, you can't taste the difference. Also, I don't use buttermilk all that often so buying a quart or half gallon (1 or 2 liter) container is generally going to spoil before I get around to using it, or I have to decide to make a few things to use it up and freeze whatever I make( cakes, pancakes, waffles, biscuits, etc.). The powder keeps for a long time. As a child I used to love a big cold glass of buttermilk, but I am no longer a fan.

I buy Pillsbury Flaky Grand Biscuits & a can of Libby's Sausage Gravy. Someone told me that even Julia Child encouraged shortcuts. I remember being shocked when I saw her using a food processor!

I like to pull the biscuits apart in half, then cut the halves into cube sized pieces before pouring the gravy over them. it makes it easier to use the fork and more surface area of the biscuits are covered with the gravy.
58 out of 10. I love it. Biscuits and gravy is one of my absolute favorites. My mother in law is from Arkansas and makes biscuits and gravy all the time. Once in a while she will use Bacon instead of sausages. It is just as good although a slightly different flavor. I love watching y'all cook and taste everything. Yes!!!! Absolutely ALWAYS test your cooking at all stages! You need to check them regularly throughout the entire cooking process! You need to check for salt and your other spices. The intensity level changes as you add more products together....so taste, taste, and taste. Mrs H you SHOULD be patting yourself on the back.....those look amazingly scrumptious!
May I suggest the next time you make the biscuit and gravy bombs, keep a bowl of water handy and wet your fingertips when you seal the gravy into the dough. The water acts as a "glue" to keep the gravy intact inside the biscuit. You did great with the gravy and biscuit making!
We love Biscuits and gravy in our house. it doesn't even take to long my daughters make the biscuits and I make the Sausage Gravy and then we surprise mom. :) I would put a cup of flour cook it for 1 min then add the milk.
When you said it was basically a jam-filled doughnut with sausage gravy instead of jam, and biscuit instead of doughnut, you were absolutely spot on. We had these in the sandwich vending machine at the factory--so, home-made by the cooks who worked for the vending machine company, but packaged for microwaving fresh from the vending machine instead of fresh out of an oven. As a testament to how good these were, if 25 were put in the sandwich machine at 5:30 AM, they were all gone by 7:30. People clocking out of night shift at 7 bought whatever was left in the machine by the people who arrived at work by 6:30 to clock in at 7. The sausage gravy wasn't Grandmother-quality, but it was quite close to good restaurant or fancy hotel-quality. The biscuits were top-notch, though. You could have put 200 of these in the machine and they'd still be gone before 9 AM. Mrs. H, yours looked far better than what got put into the machine! Dribble on a few tablespoons of honey, pancake syrup, or even salsa, and you had a breakfast fit for a king. And as you may recall, I am in Georgia, so we Southern folks know good biscuits and gravy when we encounter them! Mrs. H, you did good!
@@Mrhandfriends, more of a sandwich/hot dog/BBQ sandwich/Hot Pocket/general foody things vending machine. Sometimes they would stock it with the Gravy Bomb biscuits, sausage patty biscuits, breakfast burritos, plus pimento cheese sandwiches, chicken patties on hamburger buns, pot noodles, brownies... Whatever. It was fairly good food, to come out of a vending machine.
Mrs. H, if you dip your cutter glass into flour just enough to lightly coat the rim of the glass then the dough will fall out easier. Thumbs up for using cast iron skillet for making gravy and yes people like myself actually taste as we cook to ensure flavor and consistency 😊yummiest way😊 I have been making Biscuits and gravy for more than fifty years from scratch, I never buy ready to bake Biscuit dough because I've eaten them but there's no competition between these homemade from basics always taste wholesome and better quality; I don't use recipe cuz I've made so many times no need. You will become so knowledgeable and experienced from doing you eventually will just know how😊

I love you guts for trying recipes from outside of your comfort zone. I love when people are adventurous with food, it helps you learn about other places through cuisine. I wonder, if it's okay to post recipe links or ideas to you to try?

the cutter is for anytime you want to incorporate butter into flour. so you would have done well with it.
I buy Pillsbury Flaky Grand Biscuits & a can of Libby's Sausage Gravy. Someone told me that even Julia Child encouraged shortcuts. I remember being shocked when I saw her using a food processor!
never heard of it. I think there's an easier way to enjoy biscuits and gravy. Kudos to you for trying this.
I let pillsbury make the biscuits put in oven for 10 minutes make sausage gravy finishes at about the same time, done

That's comfort food. You need a nap to digest it afterwards. Mrs. H, you have mastered gravy is a short amount of time. It took my sister in law almost a year to get the right consistency for gravy. You're turning Baby H into a full fledged American! ❤
I like to pull the biscuits apart in half, then cut the halves into cube sized pieces before pouring the gravy over them. it makes it easier to use the fork and more surface area of the biscuits are covered with the gravy.

58 out of 10. I love it. Biscuits and gravy is one of my absolute favorites. My mother in law is from Arkansas and makes biscuits and gravy all the time. Once in a while she will use Bacon instead of sausages. It is just as good although a slightly different flavor. I love watching y'all cook and taste everything. BTW baby H keeps getting more and more adorable. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching.

Yes!!!! Absolutely ALWAYS test your cooking at all stages! You need to check them regularly throughout the entire cooking process! You need to check for salt and your other spices. The intensity level changes as you add more products together....so taste, taste, and taste. Mrs H you SHOULD be patting yourself on the back.....those look amazingly scrumptious!
May I suggest the next time you make the biscuit and gravy bombs, keep a bowl of water handy and wet your fingertips when you seal the gravy into the dough. The water acts as a "glue" to keep the gravy intact inside the biscuit. You did great with the gravy and biscuit making!

We love Biscuits and gravy in our house. it doesn't even take to long my daughters make the biscuits and I make the Sausage Gravy and then we surprise mom. :) I would put a cup of flour cook it for 1 min then add the milk.
When you said it was basically a jam-filled doughnut with sausage gravy instead of jam, and biscuit instead of doughnut, you were absolutely spot on. We had these in the sandwich vending machine at the factory--so, home-made by the cooks who worked for the vending machine company, but packaged for microwaving fresh from the vending machine instead of fresh out of an oven. As a testament to how good these were, if 25 were put in the sandwich machine at 5:30 AM, they were all gone by 7:30. People clocking out of night shift at 7 bought whatever was left in the machine by the people who arrived at work by 6:30 to clock in at 7. The sausage gravy wasn't Grandmother-quality, but it was quite close to good restaurant or fancy hotel-quality. The biscuits were top-notch, though. You could have put 200 of these in the machine and they'd still be gone before 9 AM. Mrs. H, yours looked far better than what got put into the machine!
Dribble on a few tablespoons of honey, pancake syrup, or even salsa, and you had a breakfast fit for a king. And as you may recall, I am in Georgia, so we Southern folks know good biscuits and gravy when we encounter them! Mrs. H, you did good!

@@Mrhandfriends, more of a sandwich/hot dog/BBQ sandwich/Hot Pocket/general foody things vending machine. Sometimes they would stock it with the Gravy Bomb biscuits, sausage patty biscuits, breakfast burritos, plus pimento cheese sandwiches, chicken patties on hamburger buns, pot noodles, brownies... Whatever. It was fairly good food, to come out of a vending machine.

Mrs. H, if you dip your cutter glass into flour just enough to lightly coat the rim of the glass then the dough will fall out easier. Thumbs up for using cast iron skillet for making gravy and yes people like myself actually taste as we cook to ensure flavor and consistency 😊yummiest way😊 I have been making Biscuits and gravy for more than fifty years from scratch, I never buy ready to bake Biscuit dough because I've eaten them but there's no competition between these homemade from basics always taste wholesome and better quality; I don't use recipe cuz I've made so many times no need. You will become so knowledgeable and experienced from doing you eventually will just know how😊
Whatever I cook, I taste as it goes to check for seasoning. Your doing a great job with all these cooking taste tests & there a great watch.

try letting the sausage gravy cool totally. It would probably help the dough to remain fluffy because like the frozen butter does.
