Hey Heir, I think you are in for a real treat. The Ostrogoth campaign has been by far my favorite campaign. I attacked the western Romans just like you. I lost a horde that had to face off against 2 full stack roman armies. After that, I made a straight beeline for lower Italy in Magne Gracia and settled down. I eventually claimed all of Italy and Sicily. But then, 6 full stacks of Huns decided to invade and I got pushed out so I then sailed across the sea and resettled in the Carthage region. So far I'm going strong in the new region. I will retake what I have lost. Very fun campaign. I hope yours plays out well also.
Hey, heir. I'm not sure how many feel the same but here goes: You don't have to force yourself to fight all the crummy little battles, just so you can get a battle per episode. I mean really, the battles like the one you fought here (4 enemy units vs 2 armies of yours) I consider to be a waste of both your time and ours. Again, maybe I'm the only one thinking this, and the other people that view your vids actually enjoy the sight of the AI getting stomped into the ground in wildly lopsided battles. I can only speak for myself when I say that I'd much, MUCH rather you do an episode where you only did campaign-map work, rather than force a pointless battle that was just begging to be autoresolved. Edit: I mean honestly, I always skip battles like these in the vids.
I completely Agree. If would of been alright if he didn't end the episode with it and by that I mean atleast 10-15mins after if he was to show it. Love your videos Heir :)
Hey Drew Jasek respect man and I agree the Ostrogoths are by far the best faction I have played as well (next to the Burgundian's). I too was pushed out of Italy by the Huns and settled the lands of old Carthage/Spain and am now going to go and retake Italy. Your right if Heir plays this campaign to it's fullest it is going to be a blast for him. Nice post man and spot on.
"The air was filled with smoke and blood." It always is in Total War Attila. On a more serious note, +HeirofCarthage, you have the best sense of humor ever!! Go Oystergoths!
Western Roman City Guard: "What the hells that?" *sees large trail of Ostrogothic wagons* "Oh my god... IT'S THE FUCKING GYPSIES! BATTLESTATIONS MEN! TO ARMS, TO ARMS!"
Integrity is low b/c of "Rivalry" Meaning too many hordes in one province. A trick is to put your armies on opposite sides of a border for diff provinces.
Hey Heir, i recommend settling down in Carthage, its rich, safe from the hordes and resistance is very little there, you can go there by sea, but make sure to attack by land.
I have actually tried that. It's fun making it out there while being chased by Huns, ERE, and WRE. The only problem is that for Ostrogoth the victory objectives are nowhere near Africa, or even Italy.
You can do that and be safe, but good luck sailing back to capture Pannonia and Illyria to actually fulfill the victory conditions. I just made a bee line to Rome and worked my way back. Not difficult when the Huns sue for peace relatively early on.
***** Controlling the Medditerenian(spelling) means you can go anywhere, you arent limited by land you know, you can invade the ERE and take over modern day greece and thrace and build your way upwards once u finish taking africa, or you can take Italy and move from there, or Spain for its riches, you can invade anywhere.
CounterstrikerGS Well, owning Carthage isn't really owning the Mediterranean. Personally I'm not a fan of splitting my lands up like that since the AI always knows where your units are, forces you to anchor armies too far apart. But in your defense, Africa is entirely Romanized at this point so you'll still get the same benefits from the factional trait.
My very first campaign I tried that, but the Huns just wouldn't leave me alone. Next try I went for Rome and the Huns sued for peace, allowing me to work back east with little resistance.
On my Ostrogothic Campaign hehe I am the new Eastern Roman Empire and have inherited all their enemies and I'm ranked #1 in Strength. All of ERE allies are know mine I have Macedonia, Asia, Judea and Egypt as allies. What's left of the ERE is south of Greece on that island and their my Client State. But the Sassanids and their allies have me playing defense and Attila is raiding my Northern Borders..... Urg lol You made a wise choice moving west!
A tip for the Ostrogoths. Settle late game in a Roman settlement. You can use their settlement building's and recruit thier units but can't upgrade their barracks for some reason.
If you settle early in a captured settlement, you can offset the initial costs by deconstructing unnecessary buildings (everything but aqueducts and training grounds) for the refunds and replacing them with better ones.
Supermegawaffle Which, you can do right off the bat. Just conquer the first roman settlement with a barracks you see. Also consider that the game works on a tiered tech upgrade system, so you can still recruit things like Legio Comitenses from a rank 1 rallying field as long as you have the tech to upgrade the troops.
Supermegawaffle It's not that great. Not worth spending several hours allowing Rome to get wiped off the face of the map in the name of allowing them to upgrade their limited amount of barracks in inconvenient provinces.
Woot woot! This is the one I've been waiting for. Really interesting to see where you choose to settle and when. Oh, also you made a huge mistake. You can always hire a mercenary onager in Dacia turn 1. That means you can insta-sack walled settlements on your way west.
Was hopping for Visigoths, but hey I'm more than fine with Ostrogoths. I mean, it seems like no UA-camrs have actually done a lets play on the Gothic people. It's been mainly Saxons, Huns and Sassinids ( but I do thoroughly enjoy your Sassanid and Hun campaigns Heir)
The easiest way to tone down the AI razing right now Heir is to find a mod that either guts razing from the game completely or makes it so only nomads like the Huns can do it. It's much more pleasant when the map stays relatively intact.
Can settle down. much better than Huns! There is future for Oystergoths. I hope next campaign won't START as a horde. Hope for Franks! I do wonder, would it be good to convert Franks into a horde at the beggining or just play it straight?
FlashGrapes You're right. I'm on turn 33, once you hit the right civil tech, can bring in 11,000 a turn. Turtle for a few and convert them over. Don't offer an initial bonus, but in the long run, once upgraded, well worth it. Also if you take for example a level 3 Roman settlement, demolish it down each level to make converting it cheaper. Might work out more expensive in the long run - I'm not sure. First play-through, still experimenting but really enjoyable. WRE on one side ERE on the other......... then the Sassinids lying in wait!!
***** Crouchy232323 Yes, absolutely. Religion plays a huge factor in the cost, so the trick is to get a Governor and use edict that spreads your religion, and then give the Governor the skill that reduces Construction costs. Priestess' and Religous biuldings help with Religion as well, if you have the spot. I've seen cost go under 4K, although might take some time.
How do you see the lines of where your army is going on the campaign map? I am always going slightly too far and don't have enough movement points to encamp.
Thought you said "Bostonians" for a second. Then the image of an army of thickly accented Bostonians popped into my head. Cursing violently, all clad in Boston sports gear. Nightmarish.
Use the Radiuos total war mod ,only huns raze regions and you get realistic money instead of ca 's drip feed and the battles are more fun, hope this is helpful !
you should get the radious mod. removes razing from all factions except nomadic factions, plus some cool looking new units. save game compatible. P.S.!!! your Germanic levy are pike units, you just wasted them throwing them in like that...
That Roman officer in the intro sure gets a lot of beating by different factions. Poor sod always in the wrong place at the wrong time.
jarick caesar "I've been in the army since I turned 15 and all I got was a sword to the face."
RIGHT

That sounds creepy dude.

Sounds like a pilot

The introduction was the Red Horse trailer for the game. Frankly, I thought the Ashen Horse trailer was the coolest, but that is for the Huns.

I settled immediatly with the ostrogoths in the Sirminium to the east and still goong strong.

You made a wise choice moving west!
so is there a "Theodoric is born" event/cinematic for the Goths like there's an Attila event for the Huns (well, for everyone. but you know.)
A tip for the Ostrogoths. Settle late game in a Roman settlement. You can use their settlement building's and recruit thier units but can't upgrade their barracks for some reason.

Aw yeah baby, now HERE is the campaign I've been waiting for! The Ostrogoths will have dominion over the world!
Can u put all of these in a playlist? It makes it much easier
Can anyone tell me what the red green and blue palettes above the mini map are pls ? I see them in a lot of peoples total war vids.
Voodoocat its like msrkers its best in multiplayer

I love you.
Get a fucking life
Basileus Davedog and you waste yours to tell me that, now that is just sad
max tomson But you waste yours to rebuttle me so...
Basileus Davedog well I have finish everything I need to get done with so I have time to waste
Yes! love this campaign already.
Can settle down. much better than Huns! There is future for Oystergoths. I hope next campaign won't START as a horde. Hope for Franks! I do wonder, would it be good to convert Franks into a horde at the beggining or just play it straight?
Finally! This is gonna be so much better then the huns.
It costs A LOT of coin to convert a Roman Civitas to Gothic Torp (level 1) - 7-9000 so make some coin before settling.
Without a governor that lowers costs and the resettlement edict its been close to12000 and burgs....
FlashGrapes You're right. I'm on turn 33, once you hit the right civil tech, can bring in 11,000 a turn. Turtle for a few and convert them over. pretty sure if you own all settlements in a province, and have strong religious influence, it brings it down to under 4000.

Nice, cheers.
another faction DLC was announced, the Celtic Tribes (yes another one already.........maybe we will finally get the African Factions soon though.)
I put my Ostrogoth horde in Jerusalem, attacked by eastern Romans like 50 times
19:55--19:59....how do you do that?
UA-cam says it's only available in 240p and 360p :(
Same here
Wait an hour.
How do you see the lines of where your army is going on the campaign map? I am always going slightly too far and don't have enough movement points to encamp.
if u put an army on a land based trade route in raiding stance u can get lots of money
what is wrong with ostrogoth's posterguy's shield?
can you put this in a playlist??????
Love the video man keep them up :D
Another great video
Celts just got announced for another DLC, you gonna talk about that soon Heir?
Is there a steam workshop for Attila yet??
Thought you said "Bostonians" for a second. Then the image of an army of thickly accented Bostonians popped into my head. Cursing violently, all clad in Boston sports gear. Nightmarish.
Use the Radiuos total war mod ,only huns raze regions and you get realistic money instead of ca 's drip feed and the battles are more fun, hope this is helpful !
When will the giveaway winners be announced?
All the Germanic tribes seem to have the same intro?
Heir why don't you ever use double time stance?
YESSSS!!! I was waiting gor this faction
I don't understand the popularity of the Franks, I even think there are too many playthroughs with them
Heir why did you liberate that faction? that city is in one of the 3 regions u need to get the minor victory
Everyone, i am building a PC and the graphics card i bought is the 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti how well can i play Attila and Rome 2?
Mackenzie Braden Not very well. Its an old and weaker card.
Seriously -_-
What is a graphics card that will help me to play Rome 2 at max?
yeah dude that's a really bad graphics card to buy, you should have bought a GTX970 or 770 or an AMD R9 280x
I need one that runs Attila. Which is best for the buck?
Are pikes in this game still good or are they broken?
I miss the giant ass flags from Shogun 2.
I used to date a goth girl......wait that's something completely different XD
Enjoy your videos
you should get the radious mod. removes razing from all factions except nomadic factions, plus some cool looking new units. save game compatible.
P.S.!!! your Germanic levy are pike units, you just wasted them throwing them in like that...
They definitely need to go back to the original banners.
plz new episode :D
Can some people link me to some nice gaming computers and laptops please? I'd love to pick up a nicer one. My range is less that 1500 please
I prefer the banners as well for the battles Heir
Hey Heir, what the crap is going on?
Ah damn I thought it was gonna be a medieval 2 campaign :/
heir can you please start boycotting the attila dlc like oakley did. It's obvious that CA is more focused on releasing dlc than improving the game.
CA is releasing a patch as well dude.
Epic !
i love the hordes more
Really this faction ohhh come on guys like really it's the same what huns aghhh
heir go settle england
That's nuts. The whole island is a liability of a settlement in the late game.
