It was composed by guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant for the band's fourth unnamed studio album, (see Led Zeppelin IV (1971)). The song was voted #3 in 2000 by VH1 on their list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs.[1] It was the most requested song on FM radio stations in the United States in the 1970s, despite never having been released as a single there.[2] In November 2007, through download sales promoting Led Zeppelin's Mothership release, "Stairway to Heaven" hit #37 on the UK Singles Chart.[3]

A few days after my dad passed, me my mom, gma, and nephew drove out to his grave. On the way there this song came on. Honestly I just felt this was him telling us he was on the stairway to heaven. This song has always gave me goosebumps since and it made me feel ok knowing he is up there. I keep coming back to this song for comfort knowing he is up there looking down on us. I love you dad

I graduated from high School in 1983 and I am 59 now... 60's through the 80's just before the 90's were the GREATEST times and years of my life! wish we could get all this back. started to suck after the late 90's.
I lost my big brother in 2017 to suicide. He was my best friend., There were nights where we would sit and listen to old rock music and never said a word, just listened to the music and enjoyed each others company. We played this at his funeral due to it being one of his favorite songs. I couldnt listen to it for two years, because I would instantly start to cry. Now I listen to it and smile and vibe, remembering those nights.. to anyone who finds themselves lost or losing a loved one tragically, music will always be the best medicine. Especially the old ones.

I loss my oldest brother a couple months ago. Led Zeppelin was his favorite band and this was his song. We played this at his funeral. The Led Zeppelin icon and Led Zeppelin was edged on the coffin. I did the eulogy and remembered all the times we had fun, fighting, partying and working on the ranch together. I miss my brother and have left projects undone that we were working on. I woke up early this morning, thought to myself as I sometimes do, “what’s a song that I haven’t heard in a long time that will make me happy?” I choose this song and put the head phones on in the dark and laid back... unexpectedly I had a rush of smell taste and memories, I realized what was happening and used this time to remember and feel happy memories I had all but forgot.
It was like how they say your whole life flashes before you die. But when the song ended in stead of being dead I felt so happy because I felt more like myself than I have in years! Music is amazing- it is real magic that can’t be explained. It can carry you through life’s hardest times, music can mend your heart and heal your soul.

I battled cancer for two years, it got rough and we didn’t think I was going to make it. I wanted to give up so many times. I was tired of being in pain - I was done. This song helped me so much. Music today just doesn’t compare, there’s no meaning to any of the new genres, it has no soul and is superficial.

I know I wasn't born when this song was made, I was born in the 90s but I heard this song many times on the radio when I was a kid, this song doesn't impact as much as it impacts me now as an adult. I don't if it's just me or someone also feel like when I hear this song, there's something in me that's awaken. Like mixed feelings, like sadness but that sadness makes me calm. peacefulness in sadness .. Couldn't explain but this song will forever my go through song when I miss how simple life is.
