Highly recommend Big Green. I rented it from a Winn Dixie grocery store and it was worth every penny. Very easy to figure out how to use. Used the Bissell brand solution formula/shampoo and I used it to deep clean the carpets in the living room and bedroom, and I also used it on the couch, floormats, pillows, and lampshades. I vacuumed first. It removed all stains and left everything looking super clean and fresh and smelling good. I was amazed that the couch, which had deep dirt stains and a musty odor, now looks almost new and actually now has hints of the original brand new factory smell.

I just bought mine and I love it.
It's a heavy beast, doesn't do miracles, but it's really good at it's job.
Always vacuum first and pre-treat stains.
I also cleaned vacuum debris filter at 4 tanks usage as it had about 25% debris on filter. It's the red filter that the waste tank connects to the vacuum manifold at the back of the tank.

I have one for at least 10 years. Great machine! Only issue is, I have to keep it in the basement and it’s heavy to lug up the stairs. On the plus side it’s heavy so it helps with suctioning up most of the water.

Absolutely love my Big Green. Arguably the single best carpet investment I’ve made… yes even over my Sebo D4. It has saved me and my family SO much money over professional cleanings. Good advise on solution though - make sure to use good stuff. Although I do like the Bissel Pet solution with their version of scotch guard. It also has peroxide in it, so when paired with hot water - it will help sanitize.

I have a Sebo D4...sometimes I wish I can strap the canister on my back but man does that thing clean. Best investment. Now I need to buy a carpet cleaner and it seems like the Big Green is the deal.

it is loud and heavy but it great at cleaning. i have had mine for about 15 years now. It recently started leaking but not enough to get rid of it and it still cleans very well. I highly recommend it. I purchased the highly rated hoover since it was highly rated and was much lighter and cheaper. I used it once and returned it and decided to keep my 15 year old green machine. The hoover was garbage compared to the green machine

  • @TheRealColt45

I'm a big fan of the Big Green after going through three Hoover Power Scrub Pet models over the course of six years. Yes it took me that long to wise up and spend more money up front to get a machine that won't break down every two years. The Hoover worked fine but didn't hold a ton of water and if you spilled so much as an ounce of water on the top of the thing, it would drip right into the motor housing and the motor would then destroy itself within a month or so no matter what.
I own a condo in an eight-story building and I manage four units in the same building as ski-resort Airbnb's. The units are roughly 1,200 square feet and I can do a very, very thorough wash and a completely separate rinse of an entire unit with no more than three to four refills of the big tank on the unit. It cleans exceptionally well and the build quality is very solid. As others have noted the unit is quite heavy (nearly 50 pounds) so I'm happy to have an elevator in the building. In the end though all that extra weight just creates a tighter seal between the machine and the carpet for better suction and extraction.
It's dead easy to empty the dirty tank and to refill the clean water tank. There are no hidden crevices or channels in either one to get clogged up with dirt or dog hair so you really just empty them and do a quick slosh-around rinse with some clean water and you're done. It would take me forever to really get the dirty-water tank cleaned out on my old Hoover Power Scrub or a previous upright Bissell I had before that. The end result is that cleanup even after a big job takes maybe three minutes tops.
The suction channel and brush are really easy to clean out and don't require removing anything from the machine. The power cord is a good length with a very thick insulation layer so you'd be hard pressed to damage it unless you're doing something intentional or exceptionally stupid.
Yes this is a big unit but with the folding handle, it really doesn't end up taking much more space inside the closet than a traditional upright. I actually found it fit better in mine because I can fold down the handle and put it underneath a big shelf. An upright wouldn't fit in a compact space like that.
What else- yes it's loud but not really any different from any other carpet cleaning machine. The hose and hand attachments work well and just as you would expect. The nine-foot hose is really nice, especially for stairs.
All in all I have no real complaints about the unit. You'll get a good back workout using it and I wouldn't really want to lug it up and down stairs all the time but a powerful and well-built machine should be heavy.

I’m very seriously considering purchasing one of these. I’ve had several of the other standard household steam cleaners and they all seemed to always have the same issue. The scrub brushes stop turning. Typically either an issue with the driving belt or the turning motor. My question is “What is the likelihood of having the same issue with this specific cleaner?”

Bissell Big Green is the same as Perfect now, but this machine I think debuted around 2011 or so. It has some similarities to the older Bissell ProHeats such as the brush roll design and the flow indicator. I wonder if this was originally by Samsung when they had Bissell.

I am a warranty dealer for Bissell and the flow indicator has been a weak spot on these machines. There was a re-design about a year or two ago and it seems there are not as much problems with failure as before. The problem flow gauge was clear in color the re-designed one is more clouded looking . 5yr warranty for home use is fantastic and Bissell customer service is the best.
