If we cease to exist after we die, then yes, the only thing left is for the experiences of those born (anywhere in the universe) after we die to be what "comes next" - and so, the experience of one of those individuals will be what comes next. Not "nothing". This conclusion of mine excludes souls - because if we had souls then brain damage wouldn't have any effect on anyone that got brain damage.
This new organism/ life-form will not have any prior memories because it is a completely new organism and was going to be born whether or not you died.
