The tune is the old 1941 tune , the words were changed, out went the party of Lenin and in came God.

The anthem is more than 70 years old. Here is the same anthem (from the Stalin era) sung in English, and from 1944. This anthem is a product of its time, as it depicts events from WWII, think of it as an eulogy for communism : /watch?v=T2OMO96pfSw

1) The funny thing is that (maybe because I don't speak Russian) the anthem sounds much more powerful and inspiring when sung in Russian language than in English !
2) You make it sound like that anthem is from an other time... and maybe obsolete.
Well, maybe not !
For a long time I thought the same about the French Marseillaise written during the French revolution in 1792 and officially becoming the French national anthem in 1879.
It tells how we should fight those foreign enemies coming to our country cities and even to the countriside commiting crimes and raping women...
With the recent waves of African and Muslim refugees/immigrants commiting crimes and rapes all over the European Union, the Marseillaise doesn't sound so obsolete any more :-)

Best National Anthem in the world . My Uncle fought in the war and he always said that without Russia we would have lost . Many people in the West dont know of the huge cost of the war in human life and sacrifice the Russian people made in the most brutal conflict in history on the Eastern Front . Many in the world would not be here now if it had not been for Russia . I salute you all from England . I am glad a lot of veterans from Britain came to celebrate the 70th Anniversary celebrations in Moscow last year . I felt ashamed of the British government for not attending .

They most probably followed the golden rule to a very high level for a very longtime....generations of russians being good countrymen and good brothers and sisters and families....strong nation......you know " love thy neighbor as thyself...."
