ESPN is probably the biggest media presence that covers American Sports through shows, ads, interviews etc. So it's not too surprising that their able to get the biggest names on board.
Shaq is actually a sworn sheriff deputy... from wikipedia: In September 2006, O'Neal took part in a raid on a home in rural Bedford County, Virginia. O'Neal had been made an "honorary deputy" by the local sheriff's department. O'Neal was not qualified as a SWAT officer. In December 2016, O'Neal was sworn in as a sheriff's deputy in Jonesboro, Georgia as part of Clayton County, Georgia Sheriff's Department. O'Neal holds the county record of Tallest Sheriff's Deputy
Apparently after he's done being a dj he's gonna pursue his career in law enforcement. Might even run for sheriff somewhere and i wouldn't even be surprised if he got elected
In the 1990s Sportscenter became the "cool" sports highlight show. They had the best broadcasters, it was funny, and everyone watched the 6pm and midnight SC shows. They started this campaign in the mid 90's and athletes have been around since the beginning. It doesn't have the broad appeal that it used to because you can find highlights on some many platforms, but I still tune in for the Scott Van Pelt Sportscenter nightly.
Sport center is HUGE for sports fans in the US. ESPN is almost always running it on one of their channels. They have topics that they cover from all sports, so one second they’ll be covering baseball then they might cover an NFL trade the next minute, then to demonstrating a proper basketball shot after that.
Just a little context. As many have posted, SportCenter is a daily news and highlight show on ESPN. I'm not sure how much influence ESPN's parent company has over bookings and promotions, but the parent company of ESPN is a little entity you may have heard of... DISNEY. Yes as in Disney Land, Disney World (the location of ESPN Wide World of Sports where the NBA bubble is.) Disney also owns ABC (U.S. television network) Star Wars films and subsidiaries, and Marvel Studios. I'm sure each entity operates individually, but you do see some cross promotions from time to time. Example: Marvel revealing a new trailer on ESPN Monday Night Football.
The players get paid for their involvement in commercials. It’s a sponsorship. Plus, it’s SportsCenter. SportsCenter gives highlights on all sports, not just basketball, so the players will be getting exposure.
These athletes aren't required to do these commercials, but the campaign as a whole is highly regarded and well-received in America, so ESPN usually doesn't need to ask someone twice if they're available to participate in the ads.
You don't realize just how big ESPN is in America! Sportcenter is the main show on ESPN, it used to cover all the games highlights but now its basically just sports news, all they talk about is politics now
Sportscenter/ESPN(ESPN is sports center) isn’t rivaled by any other sports company. I don’t think he realizes espn basically monopolized the U.S sports industry lol.
These mostly US athletes are more than happy to participate in these SportCenter ads. It's prestigious for these athletes to be asked by America's only 24/7/365 sports cable channel to participate in these hilarious SportsCenter promotions. And yes, these athletes and mascots are paid really well for doing it and get the nice royalties for each showing.
It's not really surprising to us that ESPN has the top athletes in their commercials. It's actually kind of a given, considering they're basically the main sports broadcast network in the country. It would be more surprising if they didn't get these high profile athletes, because there's not really any other networks who can.
ESPN and sports in America (and to a degree in Canada) are synonymous... There’s not an athlete in any sport in America that would turn down an offer to feature in an ESPN advert... After all, the goal of many an American athlete is to wind up on a nightly SportCenter highlight as often as they can. Also you need to fully understand and appreciate the cultural impact of SportsCenter... It’s literally the show that MADE ESPN into the cultural phenomenon that it is.
The NBA All Star Weekend has these events: On Fridays--The Celebrity Game ( watch at your own risk. A game with 2 teams of mostly non-basketball players trying to play the game). NBA Rising Stars Game On Saturdays--Skills Challenge, The 3 Point Contest, and the Dunk Contest. On Sunday, The Grand Finale--The All-Star Game!

Luka, this video talks about one of the greatest moments in MLB history, including memorable comebacks and epic collapses!
Yo nba games start today but the earliest one is 11:30 pm your time. There’s a lot earlier ones on Saturday and Sunday tho. Are you still going to stream them, and the ones you can’t watch can you react to the highlights
There’s another one with LeBron that I don’t know why they didn’t include it where the guy next to him swaps chairs and LeBrons is the throne. You can watch it on your own time if you just look up LeBron sports center commercial
Top athletes get paid quite well to do these commercials, and get the royalties for everytime the ads with their image appear on ESPN. Team mascots, too.

ESPN doesn’t have to explain itself; everybody knows who they are. They are just keeping their name out there.

In the 90's i used to watch Sportscenter every morning before highschool. Now there are too many sports shows on ESPN and other networks
Olbermann, Patrick, Tirico, Cohen, Kilborn, SvP, Stu Scott, Kenny Mayne
....so much talent has gone through there.
Sports fans in America enjoyed watching them just as much as you do.We get a chance to see what they really like.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
The allstar game is nothing like an actual NBA game btw
or the playoffs especially
It’s basically just trick plays and players trying to make it a highlight reel. This year the game was more competitive than usual though.
There have been some pretty fun ones tho. 2016 and 2020 allstar games were really good.
