Follow up to the suggestion of the kong toy with meat in it, would a Dachshund be ok with raw meat, i read they were allergic to alot of human food & paté often has garlic or other things in it.
My dogs only shred their toys and items dropped on the floor. They were much better, then I added a couple of kittens. They aren't bored. They're jealous.
