Absolutely! Aside from what techniques are bring used; to learn the posture, mechanism of playing, or even the wood or make of the violin & bow is much more important long term and much deeper than the notes itself!
I would like to hear more from you on this topic. Perhaps playing some examples would be helpful.

Glad to hear, 4570george. There is NOTHING wrong with learning notes and rhythms! But just recognize that after that's done.....there is a gold mine in front of you!
I think I understand what you mean. I can't play much yet but in learning to play I've started learning how to listen. I love that I can hear different styles and techniques now. In listening to several different people play the same piece there are those that are technically proficient, I guess you'd call it, but the ones that I will listen to again and again aren't just expert at the violin/fiddle as a tool but the ones who have learned how to almost pull the music out by magic. The one who is willing to devote themselves to the magical not just the technical is the difference between artisan and artist.
