  • In this video we'll be going over my Savage Model 110 Ultralite in 28 Nosler, what mod's I've made to the gun, and what I do and don't like about it.

The recoil mitigation from that brake on a 28 Nosler is very impressive. What a nice rig! I see many harvested critters in your future. Thanks for the vid.

    Man, very little seen recoil!
    Gotta have great ear protection.
That rifle shoots. Velocity would have be good, but we all know its fast

That price is so worth it! Goes to show how much $ proof is making

The 110 Ultra light is a great gun from Savage. Besides the Proof barrel, the bolt face it trued and the lugs are lapped from the factory. Not to bad for the price. The 28 Nosler is a great round. It's the only 7mm I would buy. It's expensive like you mention. Components being hard to find and if you needed ammo on a hunt, it could be hard to find. This cartridge is a long range hunting round. If you need to take these kind of shots, this is the round to do it. Great video and a great gun. Thx.

If your rifle shoots good without bedding , that is fine, but another reason for bedding is the repeatability of reassembly if you separate the stock from the receiver for any reason. Torquing your action screws will give you a good indication on whether you need to bed also, if they tighten up with a spongy feel as opposed to "hard stop", that would tell me to bed the action.

I almost bought the Savage Ultralight 280AI. I would have if the barrel would have been 24 inches long. 110 was a 1@9 twist. I ended up going with a Browning Xbolt long range 280AI. It's a 1@8 twist 26-inch barrel.

I got me a savage ultralight in 270 win. I noticed it would throw some flyers just randomly. After further diagnosis i realized the stock forend would on occasion touch the barrel with pressure. I bought the Woox hunter chassis and i havent had the problem since. I get consistent groups less that 3/4 inch. Great video. And great taste in firearms. Good luck on future hunts.

    I have one in 28 also I put pt&g
Bottom metal on it with 300 rum AICs mags you can get more length without being a single feed I also went with the stockys stock
    Cheers

    I have a 110 Ultralight in .30-06 and I absolutely love it!
It is really accurate, but I honestly can’t tell a difference in accuracy between the carbon fiber barrel and a good quality steel barrel.
My Howa’s with the pencil-thin sporter barrels shoot phenomenal and I honestly think they are the best Remington 700 clone out there and are very underrated.

I was wafting for this video. Other than the stock, the only thing I don't like about my 110UL is the bolt smoothness. I tried probably 10 of these rifles out, trying to find one that had a bolt that didn't feel like rubbing two bricks together, but they are all the same. Is it a big deal? Not really, but it does not bring me joy. Love the rifle though, and it has smoothed up with more shooting.

Great video. Are you greasing the rear of your locking lugs on the bolt?

I did similar but with a Howa carbon barreled action in 6.5 PRC and put it in the same stock. Same color too. 👍 Unbedded and have shot to 700 on a 10" target.

Have been considering an ultra lite bolt gun build. Then a buddy got a south paw Ruger Gunsite 308 in used. Yup, had to have it lol.

I was surprised by how little it seemed to kick, must be a great brake for how light the rifle is! Unfortunately I don't think we'll be seeing any Alliant powders anytime soon, unless you want to pay a premium scalper price. Maybe get your hands on some of the new Ramshot Grand? Thanks for sharing the sweet build in a mighty cartridge.

Wowsa - that 168gr LRX load looks really spicy! Barnes max for that exact setup is 75.8gr Retumbo and Hodgdon has specific load data for the 168gr LRX with max 78.3gr Retumbo. So 83.0gr Retumbo seems a little hot, but I guess if you're not getting high pressure signs then good deal - you got a real hot rod of a load and it looks like it shoots well to boot.
Have you tried StaBALL HD at all in your .28 Nosler? It seems like it would be a good fit and if the reloading data holds up in real world, then you should be able to get even better velocity than with Retumbo. I've had really good luck with StaBALL HD in 7mm Rem Mag and 7mm PRC, so it would be cool to see how it does in a .28 Nosler.
Thanks for your tests and stuff you post. I really like the long range bullet expansion tests you do (actually, the multi-range bullet expansion testing, which is even more useful).

I noted that the action is quite long(Seems a 3.8" magnum lengh action) in the 28 Nosler. Asking as to seat out longer bullets. Like very much how it turned out. 👍

I wonder how fast you'll shoot your barrel out with proof research barrel hopefully she'll hold up for a while the 28 nosler is a burning out barrel machine but extremely accurate

You'd have a hard time talking me out of the LRX for 28 nosler. You come up on something close range, no problem.

Any Old suitable action/rifle for whatever proyect will cost about $500. Aftermarket new action $750-1K+$. Carbon barrel $750-1k+. Aftermarket Stock $500-1.5K. Getting a New functional Light weight $1000 rifle Awesome. I would build it in 7 Rem Mag. But any nice cuality non Savage, like Fierce/Whatever starts at $2K. With $1k in 28 nosler ammo, who cares, and you can download to 7RM performace for a very long time.

May I ask your opinion on how your build would go in the 7 PRC?
