- We review the new Cadillac XT6; this full-blow Luxury machine tops out at $73,000. At these prices, it compares against some serious players like Acura MDX, Audi Q7, BMW X5, and many more. This light-hearted video discusses the pros and cons and gets brutally honest.

This should be required viewing for every GM executive. The brutal honesty is incredible.
They only know how to price their vehicles like the competition; not build vehicles to match them.
Agreed, except they already know. It's just a CUV Cimarron. It's no different than the fwd sedans Cadillac has made for years. It's just that they used to have glimmers of hope like the Northstar or the Blackwing V8s. Now they are just hanging in there with cheap platforms and engines they have until they go electric and completely die. The only American cars worth anything anymore are V8 rwd, but they are all but gone. All of the good GM cars he listed are rwd V8 platforms, no coincidence. But the fact that sedans are gone makes it so much worse. It's so sad to see Barra destroy and humiliate a brand that was once the "Standard of the World". Cadillacs used to say "you made it" just by the way they looked, let alone how they drove, now they can't do either.
It's "fine".
It's an "also-ran".
It's forgettable.
That you think any GM executive can do anything or cares is also brutal to be honest. How do you think they got here.
What makes you think that they give a damn?
Huge fan of how they included Life-Alert in the cabin, but it’s a bit difficult for me to get my walker into it.
No car is worth 70,000 it’s just metal
"It's not ugly" Okay great it is already doing better than most BMWs
True
X5 it’s most direct competitor is a good looking car more so than the Cadillac
@@humptydumpy8029 That's debatable and a mid-cycle refresh is imminent which will bring the new ugly corporate look to the X5. I will agree that the X5 is an all around better car.
@@humptydumpy8029 I think the only real "competitor" this has is against it's platform-mates within GM. On the looks front, thank goodness it's not as hideous as the Blazer.
I'm sure more dependable
This feels like a huge downgrade from the Escalade. No digital cluster, low rent plastics found in a base Chevy Traverse. The Lincoln Aviator dances circles around this.
It's a downgrade over the cheaper stuff on the same platform, if that's possible, just because the interior UI is a downgrade. Especially when you consider price. It's a $35k car, tops.
People need to stop assuming digital clusters are more luxury. They aren't.
@@daniels2761 agreed. Worse thing is, it’s not even on a RWD platform so aside from the looks, it’s hard to justify the price.
But at least this xt6 dances circles around the Lexus RX. So there’s that
But as far as overall I agree
@@ismaeldah6512 nor is the Lexus RX
The tragedy of the XT6 is that the car we got was never really intended for our market. It was designed for China. Johan De Nysschen wanted the US-market XT6 to be built off the CT6's Omega RWD-based platform, available Blackwing V8 and all.
Alas, GM's gonna GM. The brass saw the China-market car would be way cheaper to build, and would never encroach on Escalade territory the way Johan's XT6 might've done. Cadillac made their EV intentions known (the Lyriq's concept sketches were shown at the XT6 reveal), and that was used as financial justification to not invest in a final high-end generation of ICE products brand-wide (V-Series and Blackwing stuff being the exceptions).
Honestly, that makes a lot of sense about this particular product. It will be very very interesting to see how the future products of this size & price class within GM will be executed. Your point is a very valid "excuse". Will future products need a new excuse once they have moved to EV powertrains? Or will they put the money that is required into the interior etc. once everything is being built on some scalable skateboard platform?
@@earlmacmullin4688 having driven the Lyriq (XT5's EV replacement) recently; I'm confident that adding a bit of length, a higher roof, and a third row to make the XT6's EV replacement will result in a vastly superior machine.
74k for a loaded xt6. no way you will get a loaded q7 x5 or xc90 for 74k.
Yup.
When the XT6 was launched, I joined the chorus deriding this vehicle. Fast-forward a few years, I was in the market for a winter vehicle. I tested dozens of competitors before I pulled the trigger on a (gulp) CPO 2020 XT6 Sport. Despite its pedestrian underpinnings, it's actually well executed and has served me well. I really like that it takes regular grade fuel. What I don't like is that it's a pedestrian vehicle wearing a Cadillac badge - a brand that has some pretty decent vehicles but cheaped out with its crossovers to cave in to demands from its dealership network.
I’ve felt the same way about Cadillac interiors for a long time. They’re sold for luxury prices but they’re no nicer than a Mazda inside (actually, modern Mazdas may be even nicer). It seems Cadillac floats their luxury identity almost entirely on exterior styling and it puzzles me that people spend their money on this brand.
Well Cadillacs not the only brand who’s guilty of this
The same thing can be said for Lexus
They've finally started to change this. The newest Escalade was their first foray into more-than-a-badge-job Suburban, but they have actually succeeded with the new Lyriq and its all-around superior build quality and level of luxury. Certainly one of if not THE most compelling vehicle at its price point (even with the stupid name. They made it impossible to say the names of their new EV's without saying "ick" lmao)
But you're definitely right about most of their products since like.....the entire time I've been alive.
From what I have seen, it's mostly old people who buy Cadillacs. The stereotype exists for a reason. Sometimes I've seen middle aged people in them, especially in my time in Texas, but that is likely a case of buying some perceived image, not from making a choice based on research. They are just not a good brand based on reliability, quality, design, or value.
I really like the interior of all of my Cadillacs. Cadillac sells for much less then it’s other luxury counterparts. So they have to cut costs somewhere.
@@modernbear7172 that’s not entirely true at all. If you look at the demo graphics most old people Bought xts, there was an article recently about there demographic and almost all of the v and blackwing sales have been to 45-50 year old men. Lot of middle aged women drive srx’s and xt5’s I’m 42 and I’ve been driving Cadillacs since I was 23 and I currently own 4.
Having both of you say “Bose Performance Series” at the same time was a premium moment.
The best thing about the XT6 is this review. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
As a 26 year old I would gladly drive around town in “Bingo mode”
but will you pay 75k for THAT?
@@Stoneheadification no he'll buy it 5 years from now when it's 15 grand with 30,000 miles on it
@@TwoDollarGararge Let's be honest here... it's gonna be more like $45K in 5 years w/30K miles, but he'll get an 84 month loan to keep the painments low.
Let's see if we can keep the likes at 69. OH YEAHHHHH!!
@@Static-MT "painments" indeed 🤣
I liked the part where Jack is explaining how this isn't engineered to the same level as the actually good GM products are and Mark is just taking this 4,000+ lbs Cadillac all the way to it's 7k rpm redline down a backroad.
I mean you gotta figure this. Brass goes to the Caddy engineers and says make this rental car a Cadillac.
GM making crap cars and charging top dollar is nothing new. But what I can never figure out is who buys them. I mean obviously even if you're not a petrol head or have any interest in cars it's hard to justify spending so much on that... But sure enough, pulling out from my gas station I see one pulling in, in exactly the same color with an older guy behind the wheel. Not grandpa old though, in his early 50's tops. Tells you a lot about a person just by the car he drives doesn't it?
@@TermlessHGW well the same thing can be said for Lexus products too
@@TermlessHGW who’s buying these? People who won’t be caught dead driving something furreign (hashtag Vietnam Vet) , and buy here/pay here clients after these turds get flushed at dealer auctions
@@TermlessHGW Someone who grew up when Cadillac was the peak of luxury and hasn't done much research. They still think the brand is both prestigious and top tier.
@@naveenthemachine well Lexus has at least great reliability going for it...
The XT6 is a Cimarron in size eXtra Large. The Aviator kicks this thing to the curb. All the other lux competition too! Thanks for the laugh Mark and Jack!
My biggest issue with the Aviator is the external design is too boring for me.
At least the caddy is more reliable than the Aviator
At least the xt6 whoops the Lexus RX all around so there’s that
Problem is, nobody's thinking "Aviator". Like, nobody. Fleet city.
Indeed, the XT6 is the Cimarron of the 2020s 😅
75,000 dollars also puts you comfortably in a loaded non-hybrid Lincoln Aviator (with air ride and their 3,000 way adjustable seats), or a "well-enough" equipped plug-in hybrid trim that will blow the doors off this in probably every performance metric.
Where? I've priced all things in this category out the XT6 is the best all around. Not stellar in any particular area. Its ride quality and quietness is the best points. It's quick. The screen is too small. But I liked this the best in 2020. 2023 is now old without any updates. Its exactly the same.
I’d pick the aviator over the xt6 but I’d pick the xt6 hands down over the Lexus RX
I wouldn't spend $75K on the Aviator, or any Lincoln for that matter, either. With Lincoln, the saying goes: Save yourself a lot of coin and just buy the Ford version.
@@naveenthemachine What is your issue with the Lexus RX? Did one run over your dog or something? You keep commenting about it.
@@person.w9780 just rightfully pointing out facts. Yea the xt6 is awful I absolutely agree.
Had the RX been better executed I wouldn’t be here
Haven't seen you guys laugh like this in ages! How about doing more reviews of "underwhelming" vehicles, past and present...
They recently did underwhelming vehicles. The vast majority of them are from Lexus
Go back in their videos and look at that Buick SUV video is pretty funny.
Ford Explorer!!
ua-cam.com/video/0pGgBquiGA0/v-deo.html
So you mean every gm vehicle
Let's make a SUV that Hertz and Enterprise will buy volumes of.
That ending of Mark having a coronary heart attack was CLASSIC 😂well worth this review!!!!
GM never fails to disappoint. Sad is the state of the American auto industry. A few hits, many misses.
Well that’s the same case for Toyota and Lexus. They are becoming the Japanese GM and going downhill screwing up everything they redesign and offering nothing desirable on the table for the vast majority of products
@@naveenthemachine No.
@@naveenthemachine oh really Toyota and Lexus? Lmao cope harder dude.
@@johnnyolson258 have you seen what both Toyota Lexus now offer? Just like gm, cheaply built mediocre products that can only dream of being competitive. The vast majority of Toyota redesigns have been screwups. Not to mention Toyotas quality has really gone downhill. They’re having issues with the bz4x wheels falling off and the rav4 hybrid cablegate
And looking at Lexus none of their latest models scream luxury. If anything they scream Toyota
@@naveenthemachine have you seen the ls500 interior? It’s better than any car out there
"I don't want to get a ticket" After driving like a maniac for 10 minutes straight...comedy gold.
Mark with the Costco drip 🔥
I see it as a sign of affluence.
Tied it too
I've owned my 2022 XT6 for 9 months and I absolutely love it. No problems, smooth as silk, great features and comfort. I've gotten many compliments. I'd take this over the gimmicky electric door openers and 30-way adjustable front seats that you can't get comfortable in in the Lincoln Aviator any day.
Love mine too, not a show off…
I agree my neighbor has one and it’s gorgeous. My guess it theirs is the premium luxury in black.
I agree. My brother has one and I truly enjoy driving it. To be honest, I prefer it to my Q7!
Spot on review! The entertainment is priceless, I am still laughing at the ending 😂
New Balance, velcro shoes and the end had me rollin. Mark was on fire.
A Genesis GV80 blows this out of the water for around the same price. Originally, GM was gonna put this on the CT6 platform, but rushed it to the market on the FWD platform instead.
The end of the video had me 🤣🤣🤣
It's AWD though
I've had an XT5 for 2 yrs & I love it. No problems & it gets a lot of compliments.
Agree. They are gorgeous.
Listening to Mark bang this pile off the rev limiter made my morning lol
OMG I think I laugh more than you guys did about this review. But I have been working in the automotive field for over 30 years, so I feel your pain
that kirkland hoodie slaps. I need that for my weekly Costco runs when I pick up my 18 pack of ketchup.
Watching this while I’m driving an XT4 🥲
Can u say Hyundai palasade for 52k is as nice or even better for 20k less
I think you guys are spot on. I had a previous gen of this as a rental. It was decent, very inoffensive, but needs to be 10-15k less expensive. I'd never consider it vs QX60 MDX or even like Palisade Calligraphy (which eats its lunch at 52k).
There is no previous gen of this.
If I were shopping for a luxury suv I’d rank them
1. Gv80
2. MDX
3. Aviator and xc90
4. Telluride palisade
5. Qx60
6. XT6
7. CX9
7. Lexus RX dead last
@@naveenthemachine i agree with pretty much everything except the cx9 placement, id put the cx9 in 6th with the xt6 in 7th place and id keep the lexus rx dead last
@@naveenthemachine what is the reasoning for the RX's placement?

it's been said before on your reviews on piles and i wanna say it again. i don't give not two but ten shits about this appliance and would never watch a review on it but the minute i saw the video i knew it would be entertaining to watch bc of your banter. you make reviews on commodity cars enjoyable bc of your light-hearted approach yet genuine opinion on them. that's one of the main reasons i love you guys!
Understeer FWD mode instead of usual Drift mode is a nice touch!
Sportin' the upscale Kirkland swag in a $74K Caddy. Love it. LOL
I think the one key point missing about what this car brings to the table: approachability; and namely, it's not European. Obviously, at a similar price, something like an X5 and GLE are head-and-shoulders better. But, they come with perceived (though not necessarily unjustified) European non-reliability, high complexity, high maintenance costs. I think this is a luxury car for someone who has spent most of their life driving lesser GM products - and this is a well-deserved trophy to feel like they have a luxury car, but truthfully never really was someone who was ever going to wrap their head around what it really means to own, maintain, understand a 'real' luxury car. Which makes sense for the retiree who finally just wants to get something nice and can afford to do so. The interior with a much less tech-forward dashboard (no iDrive or MBUX here), the regular gas, even the 'unsophisticated' underpinnings (NA V6, regular transmission, even the FWD architecture) - all work together here. And when in normal times, this comes with an MSRP-made-for-a-discount - this really is a car that carves out its own niche of a segment and really isn't to be confused with an X5. Just my $0.02.
I'm on my 3rd Mercedes and am looking into Cadillac. Have had it with the fragility, high maintenance and low quality interiors and electronics Mercedes tries to pass off as premium. I want a GM vehicle as soon as I can FIND one. I'm 40 and am totally ok with the retirement home stigma, knowing the comfort and space I will gain, with less tech and a car that just works.
This car looks like it should’ve came out 10 years ago and it would’ve been very competitive
The front end looks updated. Every time I see one on the road I stare
Mark absolutely THRASHING this car on the drive was incredible.
Once again you guys did not disappoint, laughed out loud several time during this video
Y’all had too much fun with this one 😂
My prostate swelled up watching this video.
Picked up a low mile 2020 platinum for 40K, depreciation is your friend!
When you have early stage dementia and $74K to burn, there's this.
America's love affair with large CUV's is hysterical. $74K for this thing?
Even as an American that can appreciate certain SUVs, I find this stupid. Why buy a topped out XT6 instead of loading up a Tahoe with as many features to match the price? It's does the truck thing better because...uh...it's actually a truck.
@@aprtur American here too and believe at least 1/2 of the vehicles on the road are just far too large. Don't understand it, but some people are willing to spend the $.
@@67tomcat absolutely. The amount of times someone buys a three row because they "need it" and they're running around with it empty 80+% of the time is crazy. Add to that the lack of necessity for these "rugged off-road" vehicles, and it's just an ego thing as to why people buy this stuff.
@@aprtur Couldn't agree more!
No one’s buying this for $74k. The XT6 is going to Hertz & Enterprise. After that they’ll land at Al’s Subprime Autos for $28k (cash buyers get a discount!)
Hahaha, the end skit bro, hahahahahha. I love you guys.
Bruhhh the roast.. it's always the best when the comedy is on point... Savagely funny well done 👏👏
Fantastic review! Very entertaining and informative. It’s been a long time since I owned or even seriously considered a GM product. But the Lyriq is intriguing. I hope you can get your hands on one of those soon.
I feel like this was designed to "compete" with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L
Same price point, similar features, similar market. But only if you consider the Overland or Summit trim for the JGC
Where GM fails though, is the price. You can get more features in the GC for the same price, and if you don't need all the fancy crud, just go down to a Limited and option that up for ~10-15K less.
For 74K you really could do a lot better, and shop imports too
But you could do worse too. You can get a “luxury” suv for 67K and be as bad as this
Acura mdx-s is so much better than this. Not to mention cheaper. And it will last. Which is something you cannot say about the German competitors
Pretty much anything beats the xt6. Except the Lexus RX. The xt6 runs circles around the rx
I love the Kirkland Signature hoodie, I need that in my wardrobe
The transmission didn’t sound too bad, it shifted rather quickly and smoothly. For 70k it had better
Jack's little 'uuuuh" at 6:32 pops up in like every other video and is hilarious.
He's basically asian Hank Hill
Mark, Love the ending, so great, Also, love the brutal honesty from both of you. I hope GM still works with you in the future, They probably will be pissed off when they see this video. The truth is you guys are right at a price of 60 grand to 74 grand loaded, it is not competitive, as a matter of fact The Lincoln Aviator which competes with this is so much better, inside and out.
My well aged and affluent Uncle buys a new Burgundy whatever the other Cadillac crossover model is called every two years and literally the only reason he gets them is because of the GM retiree family discount thing. We’re both car guys and we have never *ONCE* had a conversation about any of them. A burgundy Caddy crossover is seemingly the official “an car” of every retired Boeing/GM engineer living in HOA governed gated communities across the Midwest/Southwest.
Lincoln is so underrated. The interiors are top notch. The ride and handling are just perfect for the segment. I test drive them all and purchased a Lincoln.
Their engines and turbos are also junk. Many ford engines need replaced when the water pump leaks and turbos leak before 50,000 miles.
@@vasaguy7624 Ford’s 2.0 is a very reliable motor. I am not a Ford apologist, but it’s a fine motor.
Too bad it's a Ford

It's funny that as someone who works service parts counter at a gm dealer, most of the XT6 I see are actually leased by internal sales employees lol
Wow, I didn't expect you guys to have a review of the Volvo EX90 up so soon!
You guys crack me up thanks for the hilarious video

Makes me wonder if you've ever had a ticker, ripping the cars around as you do sometimes.
A pile seems like a nice term for this, very expensive one at that.
Knowing this could have been a Blazer makes this very appealing.
When you hear that sweet sweet french music, you know it's going to be a good video
LOL…I literally (almost ) died watching that last segment in the Epilogue🚑
Drove the xt6 as a loaner while my 2021 escalade was getting recalls and free maintenance last year and although i actually found it to be a bit more comfortable it felt cheap since it's not several years old but freshly released and competition of the same category and price have a more expensive interior. i wouldn't say nicer but just more expensive. I care about comfort and usability more than actual design and looks. I like some things found on the suburban more than my escalade to be honest.
Mark on point with the Kirkland Signature hoodie.
His drip is with the current trends. Bravo.

The ending was a trip!!🤪🤪
I will say as a previous gm dealer employee these and the enclave had the biggest discounts the last couple of years. Also I happen to live very close to the Spring Hill GM plant, and most of the GM employees have one of the these where I live bahahaha. These ride good and quiet decent power but if you do have a family the Enclave is the best deal and has way more cargo space behind the 3rd row. These are for the people who never made it too or didn't save for an Escalade.
I have a friend that worked in the Spring Hill plant and his advice was “DON’T BUY ONE OF THESE” lol
I had a few as loaners when I had my CTS-V. They were awesome…for 2 days
Glad i bought a GV 80 , this is terrible sold my stock years ago thankfully
You bought the best Asian luxury suv
I spent a week in one of these, when it came out, back in 2019. Put 1000 miles on it. Not an SUV fan, but I enjoyed this. Wouldn't buy it or recommend it, though. Felt better than my Malibu, at the time. Since then, I've driven more and more vehicles and this thing doesn't compare to others in it's price range. The top end Palisade is much better than this vehicle.
I love how GM says "this is a totally unique vehicle and not related to the traverse/blazer"
GMs pathetic marketing at it once again
It’s just like how brands like Lexus or Infiniti say “this is a unique luxury experience. It’s not related to anything Toyota or Nissan”

my favorite feature is either the driver's side feeding tube that delivers fiber directly into your gullet, or the penny slot machines in the second row.
A couple of years ago, I test drove the Sport model, I was completely surprised how well it drove, that AWD system and gearbox was convincing, it hid its body roll well, and it hid its FWD architecture well, almost Audish. Interior was “meh” but wasn’t insulting at the 60k sticker price.
Great review....... That ending...Lol. I can't...
That ending tho. Looks like Mark coded out. RIP. 😄
I'm walking through Costco the other day, and see these Kirkland Signature hooded sweatshirts.... and I'm like, who in their right mind would buy one of those??? This entertaining review answered that question.
Not gonna lie, when these are available off lease a few years from now at a massive discount, it may be worth a look.
The problem is a Chevy Blazer built on the same platform costs less and gives you better features
Please keep your reviews entertaining like this.
Perfect for my '4pm dinner special' getaway... at the rec center.
The biggest issue for the CT6 is that the acadia and the enclave exist. Both of those are just as nice and cost way less (like the price point this should be). Also another major issue is the grand cherokee L exist, which is rwd and has a V8 and soon a I6 turbo. Caddy has shown us what they're capable of with the truck based escalade, the ct4 and ct5, and even the smaller xt4. But the xt5 and xt6 are just caddy badge slapped chevys which has been an issue for caddy for 3 decades.
Consider bringing a flashlight when you film the interior portions, so we can actually see it. Maybe two flashlights, or some fireflies, or a lantern, so it won't keep looking like you're shooting a Christopher Nolan movie
Love you guys. I would watch you even if you would be reviewing pressure cookers ...

For $74k, I’ll go with the Lincoln aviator or even save more $$ for the telluride or palisade

We bought our 2021 Sport last August, so far no issues. Paid 66k Canadian with my corporate discount, still definitely too much but it's safe, has decent power and good mileage on the highway.
I'm 39 with a young family, so I guess I don't fit the stereotype that's being cast here.
Needed an AWD drive "wagon" for my wife and kid, does what I need it to.
I don't really get all the hate for this thing, but I don't have Escalade money and I wanted something a bit bigger than an Equinox. 🤷
66k cad is around 49k usd while this one being reviewed is at 73k usd almost double what u paid, so you got a really good deal. 73k is almost 100k cad which is awful pricing.
