    Hei, David!
    Though I've watched tons of record collecting videos over the years I think this was the first one which had talk about the "design faults" of the album covers. 😎👍
    Here's one question 👉 Should those really old Japanese pressings that you showed have an OBI? Without one a Japanese pressing loses its magic but they are still very "exotic".
    As long as a Japanese pressing has an OBI, it gets my vote! 💪😎
    Another interesting video so I'd like to thank you for making it,
    Jarkko/MyVinylBar

      Hi Jarkko, thanks for the kind comment. I'm fairly certain only two of Elvis' 1950s albums came with an obi, although time could prove me wrong, and Loving You was not one of them. Glad you liked the video. Thanks for watching.

    Hi, obviously living in the UK, I originally preferred the UK covers, but later on when I saw the US covers, I think they were the best, with thicker cardboard, and the quality of the front cover photos always looked sharper to me! cheers and stay safe my friend!

    I like the look of the U.K. laminated with fold overs. They have a retro look which puts them in their time.

      Yes, it's a shame they stopped doing the cutaways though. The UK covers had a really nice white border on the front too. On the other hand, the US sleeves look great lined up with their colourful spines. Thanks for watching.

    Good day David, you have faced a very interesting topic, me too and I think like all of us who collect records I have experienced the same problems caused by wear and by the passing of time. It would be great to try to describe how to properly store vinyls and their covers so as to allow those who will buy and collect these treasures in the future to still find quality and magic for both eyes and ears. Thanks Andrea

    I think the german covers are exellent. Fully laminated on both sides. The vinyl is also mostly of very good quality. I recently picked up quite a lot of german singles, ep and albums in NM condition. Now I can’t stop looking for more:)

    Hi David my dear friend :) great seeing you again in another great interesting informative video, i find in each country goodies: ) i do like the USA ones if they are simply with no damaged spine :) and in shrink wrap , love the glossy UK and Japanese covers too, in ISRAEL the picture sleeves were like the UK ones, not like the USa ones, all the LPs from ELVIS PRESLEY LPM 1254 to ELVIS ( FOOL ) 1973 were Laminated, from Raised on rock forward all picture sleeves came NON laminated, so its very hard to even impossible to find not mint even VG + picture sleeves from 1974-1977....all ISRAELI pressings are hard to find in Mint or VG ++ condition, back then during the sixties all teenagers played those records non stop at Fridays parties, so almost no one really thought about the things of keeping the picture sleeves clean or very good storage , it took me a very long time to find some MINT copies and i paid for it ;) thank you so much, Cheers , your friend: Lior

      Hi Lior. All good here, thank you. I hope all's well with you. Thanks for the info on Israeli sleeves. I have never seen one from your country so that's really interesting. I think the UK albums also stopped appearing in laminated sleeves from around '73-4 although I have a UK Promised Land LP in a fully-laminated sleeve. Thanks for watching and have a great week. Cheers, David

    I was thrown back when you showed Rock 'n Roll No 1 from UK, very nice. The introductory LP that most countries released in their form. France didn't release until 1966!. I love the variations from different nations. Most of the U.S. LP's were issued in CD form in a box with 60 releases a few years back. The 10" 'Elvis' Golden Records' has been faithfully rereleased along with other 10" LP's. I bought it 4 years ago - £14. I like countries that changed to a new cover different from U.S one. Such as 'Elvis Show' (TTWII) or From Elvis in Memphis in Italy or Blue Hawaii in Spain. Why they changed I don't know. Do you have Elvis related LP's such James burton or Scotty Moore? I collect Beatles and Jerry Reed too. Nice video.

    • @ElvisPresleyInJapan
      @ElvisPresleyInJapan  2 роки тому

      The Japanese also didn't release the first album with the US track listing until 1962. Yes, I have that 60-CD set you mentioned. It's very good, especially the little extras like stickers and so on. Nice attention to detail. I don't collect Elvis-related artists for the sake of it but I do have the original Japanese pressing of Scotty Moore's album, The Guitar that Changed the World. I also have a nice Japan-only Jerry Reed compilation called Reedology.

    • @ROCKINGMAN
      @ROCKINGMAN 2 роки тому

      @@ElvisPresleyInJapan I don't have Reedology, my favourite guitar picker. That period is a great time in music when Reed was issuing fanatstic albums late 60s and Elvis was going into better songs such as Guitar Man, U.S.Male. I have the Scotty Moore LP too.

    Hi David for me it has to be the U.K laminated covers ( but then im biased ) but of course the latter Japanese gatefolds are in a class of their own.

    Hi dave nice piece that ,a think the japanese covers have it for me ,UK and the US did some great ones also ,UK original golden records is me fav cover ,that booklet sleeve was awesome ,similar to the US Xmas album ,south America did some nice covers when they triedvto make EL appear more dark skinned ,am sure some if the japanese covers have ELs eyed more chinese looking ,back to the UK ,the original rock n roll no 2 was an awesome cover ,its not been done anywhere else to me knowledge ,some lovely pressing on show here ,the flaws you showed av has the same problem down the years with the same probs ,as for me fav covers well that's got to be the golden records ,the UK version ,its not been bettered for me ,am always looking for copies at fairs,as for Japan a think the loving you cover takes some surpassing ,golden records vol 3 was another a love ,getting clean copies of albums isn't easy ,when am looking for albums it condition all the way for me ,not just the sleeve ,the vinyl also ,great video again dave ,love watching them ,take care ,tony 👍

      Hi Tony. You're right, the UK Golden records first sleeve is great. I have a couple of copies of that one. It's so hard to find a nice one, though. Same with Rock n Roll No. 2. I think in Japan they did mess about with the images, as they did in other countries. On the Pot Luck albums I showed, you can see his eyes are a similar colour to his shirt (at least in the photo) on the US cover, but on the Japanese cover, they're brown. Thanks for watching, Tony. Take care.

    I would have to say I perfer the way the American releases are made but like the looks of the Japanese versions the best, and also the Japanese releases have more gatefold albums than the American releases. In fact their are very few American ELVIS releases that are gatefold. Thanks for another great video and keep safe.

    The Japanese have the best packaging for just about anything they make. Talking US albums and the artwork. I think Elvis's best album covers are his debut LP, Elvis Golden Records (actually all 4 Gold Records volumes) For LP Fans Only, Something For Everybody, His Hand In Mine, Elvis TV Special, and From Elvis In Memphis

    • @ElvisPresleyInJapan
      @ElvisPresleyInJapan  2 роки тому +1

      Sometimes people complain here that they go too far. For instance, you can get a box of cookies and inside, each cookie is individually wrapped. When you buy pastries at a bakery, they'll put each one in its own small plastic bag and then put them all into one big plastic bag. As for their record covers, they were at their best in the 1970s.

    BEST COVERS EVER USA AND JAPAN QUESTION WHY ARE ELVIS 45 PICTURE SLEEVES SO EXPENSIVE . LAST QUESTION WHY ARE 8 TRACK TAPES N CASSETTES SO RARE AND EXSPENSIVE.

    • @ElvisPresleyInJapan
      @ElvisPresleyInJapan  3 роки тому

      Hi. Only certain Japanese 45s are expensive - the ones from the '50s and a few reissues from the mid-60s. Otherwise, they can be bought for fairly reasonable prices. Prices have certainly come down in the last ten years. I think a lot of cassette tapes got thrown away over the years and they never sold as well as records. As for 8-tracks, they never sold well here, as far as I can tell. I never see them. Thanks for watching!
