When one sentence leads to other sentences, we need to use besides for the first sentence. Ex I met him. I talked to him. Here first action leads to the second. Here the apt answer will be ~~Besides meeting him, I talked to him. If first sentence does not lead to other sentence,either sentence can be taken. Ex. He sells pens. He buys pens. Here the answer may be~~ 1)Besides selling pens, he buys them. Or 2) Besides buying the pens , he sells them.
