    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
    Should I use a heat protectant when I use hooded dryers or steamers?
    - Yes, your hair should not be product free when using a hooded dryer or a steamer
    What about flat irons?
    - I personally have only flat ironed my hair twice since I’ve been natural. It is really hard to avoid heat damage if you flat iron your hair, especially if you flat iron your hair consistently.

    I keep hearing a lot of people say using oil in the hair with heat is like frying it but I feel like that was addressed when she said oil heats up the hair quicker so you can use LESS heat. Maybe we are frying our hair because we are using the same amount of heat (probably out of habit) as we do when we use commercial heat protectants. Back in the day pressing oil was big and women straightened regularly and still had nice thick hair.

    *Greetings GreenBeauty and subscribers* 💖
    I've been a member of Team Natural since 2007, Recently I have been EXTREMELY SERIOUS about taking better care of my hair. It's so overwhelming because its SO MUCH WORK to care for natural, curly, low porosity hair. Its a lot of work AND knowledge to take in. Prepoo, cowashing (what is cowashing?) LOC vs. LCO, rice water, tea rinses, ACV, deep conditioning, detangling, leave in conditioning, split ends, maintaining moisture, stretching the hair- MY GOD it can be discouraging because I have no clue when to do what and what to do in between. I am curious to know if the water quality affects your hair. Tap water from the shower has a lot of minerals and its "hard water". Does it really make any difference what kind of water I use? Whether its alkaline, distilled or purified water does it really make a difference in the health of my hair? A topic like water quality and hair would make a very interesting video. Love your videos. Congratulations on your move to Hawaii. NEW SUBBIE HERE❤❤❤

    This is your first video that i am just not down with lol....i personally wouldn't or wouldn't recommend anyone using oil BEFORE straightening. I feel like it creates unnecessary burning and effects how good the results can be. I think silicone based products (which is basically what is in most heat protectants) is most effective. I know this series is mostly on stretching (unlocked)hair, but since it's winter I'm in need of a faster way to dry my locs as well as to ensure that they don't have a chance to develop mold. It would be great if you would create a natural heat protectant. All store-bought products are loaded with different types of silicons. While this works initially, I find that it make my hair progressively drier. It also weigh it down quite a bit. I have loose hair and while still not a %100 sure of my hair porosity , I think I have moved from medium (naturally) to a very high porosity hair. Oils makes my hair look greasy and flat. Using just a little bit of oil won't provide the coverage needed to protect my hair strands.until the right product comes out, I find it easier to use low heat and take forever to blow dry

      swayb 2:41 Explains the burning point of the oils.
      For instance, I’ll be using avocado oil as a protectant because the burning point is 520 degrees, but my iron will only be at 380 degrees.

    • @vastya.3255
      @vastya.3255 2 роки тому +6

      Im a little late but basically oil shortens the time where heat is applied on the hair, it heats up fast and cools fast, without oil, hair will basically have to sit on the heat for longer until it gets straight enough. A pass with the iron or blow dryer will get the hair straighter in less time than without any oil. Does that make sense? It’s like boiling an egg (hair consists of protein like egg does) , you can either let the egg sit and cook in hot water (longer time the egg sits in heat, couple of minutes) or you can run the egg in a deep fryer (don’t try this at home, the egg explodes!) and the egg will cook in seconds.

    What if you aren't stretching but drying products. For example a perm rod set or wash and go so you have a moisturizer and gel in your hair is that enough or should you add the things you mentioned as well?

      I think the 2nd and 3rd categories can helps inform the decision on which oil to use. For instance castor oil has humectant properties/effects plus has a high smoke. Wouldnt that be an ideal oil to choose if your hair likes it.
