The opening theme music to TWIB is "Jet Set", composed by Mike Vickers, a former member of the original Manfred Mann band. "Jet Set" was first used as the theme for the original 1974-75 version of the game show Jackpot. When Fox brought TWIB back, a slightly revamped version of "Jet Set" was written.
The closing theme to the show is "Gathering Crowds", composed by John Scott.[16] It is typically played over a montage of baseball's greatest moments, building to a crescendo with a punctuated three-note chord as the MLB logo slides into view. The piece has also been utilized to similar effect for montages and credits at the end of, for example, local TV newscasts.

Yes I agree… Saturday was my favorite baseball day . I put my Yankee Jersey on and my cap. Oh the goosebumps i feel when I hear this… Back then baseball ruled… Long gone are those precious days we lived in our childhood…..

These two musical themes take me back to the early 80's watching TWIB every Saturday with Mel Allen and then tuning into NBC and the Game of the Week. It made my childhood special and made me a life-long fan of baseball. Sure miss those days....great memories.

Gathering Crowds was also used as the ABC News theme, after Roone Arlidge of ABC Sports fame, took over the network's news division. Until they started World News Tonight.
I rarely missed an episode. I knew when that opening theme came on, I was going to be in a treat to see some great plays, interviews, and especially a few blunders.
Perfect music for the show. Just like NFL films music. Transports me back to those days as a kid.
I'll always remember looking forward to the clip of Ozzie Smith doing a backflip. When baseball was pure fun.😊

"This Week In Baseball" was originally known as "This Is Baseball" when it premiered in 1974, and was narrated by John Facenda, the voice of NFL

of baseball's weekly games,plus historical moments. In 1977, Facenda handed the narrator's mike to veteran broadcaster Mel Allen, and the program was retitled "This Week In Baseball". How about that?

The second theme song especially has the feel of Olympian greatness. It elevates sport to an artform and evokes the Ancient Greek aspiration for perfection. Marvelous.

My Saturday Mornings were so fun because I got up and watched cartoons then it was This Week In Baseball. Then after that it was the NBC Game Of The Week.
Boy I had a simple childhood.
And don't forget about "The Baseball Bunch" which was on for about five years, too!

Gathering Crowds was also used in the Early 70's by ABC Television as their theme song for "The ABC Evening News" which was done live from New York with Harry Reasoner and Howard K. Smith.

Can someone explain why the theme was truncated at the end of the TV show "This Week In Baseball"? The version here seems to be the original, not played on TV, which ends as TA-DA. DO-DO-DO
