What music may actually be? David Braid

A few thoughts on music - is it an encoded (unconscious) message of experience? Some examples performed live from a new piece just finished 30 minutes ago. Some thoughts on how I compose.

That is a very pretty melody. Schopenhauer considered music to be the greatest of all artforms. In his eyes, music was not a copy of what he believed to be a higher truth but a direct manifestation of it. I have often found it absurd that, when I play music, I am essentially manipulating sound waves in order to evoke an emotional response in another human. Your notion of an unconscious message of experience also puts it in the realm of the truly strange. Strange but beautiful.

Well said. I find myself starting a song in a similar way, when I have the space to make music. With friends or singing or humming notes into my phone recorder. Thank you for putting your insights into words and sounds ✨🌊🙏🌊✨

Those ideas you are grappling with are certainly resistant to linguistic definition, they are huge.
