OMG this is fantastic! The absolute power in Olive's forehand return of serve winners is incredible and a joy to watch. Speaking of watching, Real Tennis has 6,000 subscribers and already (6 hours since release) this video has been viewed over 5,000 times. That tells you just how highly anticipated these matches are!!! Time to get Winston Du, the Tennis Spin guy, the Trash Bin Bros, Seirea Tennis, Tennis Troll and Wanna Be Pro (my favorite) to Wisconsin ... STAT!!!
We’ve all been there. When the opponent neutralizes everything with off-pace shots, they’re putting you in the position of expending more energy per shot and taking on the greater share of risk per shot. Olive wants to play with intensity and physicality, while Adam sort of takes the intensity out of rallies. When there’s a big intensity gap between players, oftentimes human nature is for the more intense player to get baited into being less physical, when in reality, they actually have to up their physicality to create pace with margin and be the dictator.
Such a fun set to watch. Olive just looked a bit nervous to me and you can see even with some of those inside in forehands when stepping in, they just looked to have a bit of deceleration with the shot. I can imagine the biggest challenge for newcomers on the court is to just first and foremost be able to play to your capabilities.
@@REALTENNIS I can imagine! Takes a lot to even step onto those courts, I'm not sure I'd have the bottle to. And if I did I'd need things to go my way to settle and unfortunately that's not always a luxury 😁
very close first set overall, Adam won 31 points vs Olive 29. When Olive won 11/12 points at 0:2 she showed that she can play at a very high level. The question is if she can be consistent enough to continue hitting more winners than unforced errors? She made the most errors on her 3rd shot (serve +1 ) and on her backhand. Winning points at the net doesn't seem to be a great strategy so far, she only won 5/12 points. Adam is playing very consistent with only 5 unforced errors and 12 winners/forced errors. It will be interesting to see if that strategy will be enough for him to win the match.
Olive looks like me playing a pusher... I totally go tilt at some point and can't recover... Those high loopers just demand great form and concentration if you try to crush them, otherwise you're just spraying shots. And if you try to just get them back, somehow it robs you of your intensity and concentration, playing right into the pusher's game... It's demoralizing seeing the opponent throwing nothing balls at you time after time that you can't take advantage of consistently... In a weird way, it's comforting to see someone with a lot of skill falling into the same trap I do...
@@OlivePlaysTennis I am a certified 'tilt master', so I totally identify with and feel for you! Very humbling.. I think the experience will ultimately be good for you and make you a better player, though....
So the interesting thing I'm seeing is that Olive's advantage in athleticism is working against her. She's running around backhands and constantly in motion, which in turn leads to her gasping for breath while Adam remains pretty much even throughout. The tiredness leads to errors, and an error-filled match definitely plays into Adam's favor.
Honestly there is no big advantage in Athleticism there. Men that do a lot of sport usually have a physical advantage over women that are much more active/trained. If they do tennis specific fitness tests, Adam probably would perform as good as Olive.
I really hope Olive cleans it up a bit, she's shown that she can win (going down 0-2 and coming back). Glad to see the vids coming out so rapidly back-to-back. Appreciate it!
In some of the other interviews, Olive talks about anxiety and other things that to me look like they are playing a roll in this first match. Definitely looks more mental on her side with the ups and downs. And then, one the other side Adam is just having another Tuesday and doing his thing. At least for this first set. Good stuff folks.
Mark is great spokesperson ton of character!! PlayYourCourt and/or TacoBell are missing out they need to get a patch on one of Mark’s sleeves for a RealTennis match. It wouldn’t cost Taco Bell too much Mark would prob do it for some in free Chalupas.
If only there was someone in the comments section who saw that second set and could let us know if they found their rhythm. I'll message you with updates if I run across anyone like that. 😋
Dealing with junk balls is rough. Olive clearly has pace and a "big" game, but has trouble adapting to the change of pace during the 1st set. Curious to see if she will be able to grind it out without "losing" her power when needed. That is one thing in wich I fail a lot: I can hit "big", but if faced with a junk baller, I completely lose my rythm, get dragged into a style I don't know how to beat, and if I try to impose my game again, I'd be better off in a baseball field instead of a tennis court. All credit to Olive. Getting into a "hostile" environment is rough as hell - even more when all your opponents are used to the camera style and court. She noticed that she needs to be more positive. Falling into the negative thoughts is a trap, but it happens often when facing "strategists".
If it's true that Olive didn't look at the tape that Ian sent her, that was a huge mistake. She would have known what type of player Adam is---and would have prepared accordingly with a specific game plan. She seems to have gone in without one. Also, I think it's interesting that people often underestimate the skill of the essential tennis crew. Maybe because of the higher angle of the camera? So the ball looks slower than in the angles used by other tennis channels.
I wouldn't say I underestimated them, I just have a habit of not checking out my opponent's info (at least in this point in my career) because I have so much work to do just learning to manage my own game/mentality in matches. I have more to say, but I'll keep it to myself for now to avoid spoilers 🤭
The next set in which I DON'T underestimate Adam will be a first. You'd think I'd have learned by now. For someone who said she wouldn't be nervous, Olive looked REALLY nervous. The breathing issues point to it. You can tell yourself it's just tennis as usual, but as the RT commentators pointed out, when you fly 1,500 miles to play on someone else's UA-cam channel, that's not tennis as usual. You're going to put pressure on yourself to perform at a high level and show everyone your best, and it's been rough for the most part so far.
Awesome set! *spoilers below* ..... Adam grinded that set out, man. That was really impressive. Everytime it looked like Olive had gained the momentum and was in a position to pull away, Adam held steady. I've seen him do it before on the channel, but it felt even more impressive here. Looking forward to the 2nd set!
@@OlivePlaysTennis was not doubting or even questioning that you were dehydrated from the flight. Was just curious about the length of the flight and also I am assuming you are into health fitness and very knowledgeable about your body. So not questioning the dehydration part at all or from the flying. Completely understand the recycled air in airplanes at the pressure they use in cabins does dehydrate people.
Tough set for Olive -- she definitely has the tools. If memory serves, Adam didn't have as much trouble with Ira's bombs than he's had with some of Olive's serves. I don't think she hits quite as many mph as Ira, but whatever she's doing has Adam on the back foot pretty often.
I can’t count how many times I have lost a set to a pusher like this. My style is similar to olive (not as good though) and this type of player is what I struggle with the most. Looking forward to an olive comeback so I can borrow some tactics!

If you are facing a pusher, you need to fight from the very beginning. Think of every point as a matchpoint. It is very risky to hit the lines or close to the lines, in order to beat a pusher. On the other hand, you need to keep an eye on your gastank. Pushers can run all day long.
Olive is late on a good number of shots. Curious how she feels about the speed and low bounce of the indoor surface. Also, with her eastern forehand, she's susceptible to high shots on that side.
A little fatigue might be a big help for Olive. She could possibly stop overhitting some of Adam’s off pace loopers, and begin to relax a little. If those things happen, I’ve got my fingers crossed for her to find the sweet spot a bit more and start pushing him back where he came from (behind the baseline).
In my opinion it all starts with mentality, to us viewers it is obvious that Olive has the better shots, but her thinking that during the match puts unnecessary pressure on her self leading to frustration after frustration. She probably already knows this, but relax and be present in every point , try your best to think positively all the time and the game will come to you.

I know etc but...This serve was clearly before the line...how could he announces it out...After this I would not be confident in his calls for the entire match if I was his adversary...
20mins in. Adam is hitting those lobby balls, no pace for Olive. She needs to play Adam’s game and just keep the ball in waiting for a strike instead of getting that frustrated imo.
Great start to the match! Adam is so underrated, and the comments at the end hit on why he’s so effective. Can’t wait to see the rest of the matches with Olive!
Wouldn't it be more appropriate that Olive should play the three guys the other way round? First Mark, then Scott and finally Adam? So as to be fresh and rested in the most competitive matches. Or at least play Adam first to adapt to the court and then Mark and finally Scott. Wouldn't it be a little bit more fair?
You could make an argument about "fairness" no matter what order Olive played them. If she faces Mark or Scott first, you could say she had to face a bigger hitter before she was used to the (faster) speed of the court and that would be "unfair". There's advantages and disadvantages no matter the order.
Power doesn't always win. I play with this pusher/counter hitter guy in Homestead fl that he literally just takes the pace off every shot on his backhand with extreme slice and to top it off he makes bad call after bad call. imposible to beat someone cheating and pushing . every ball on the back line is out.
Of course she can men tennis is so much higher than women tennis is almost a joke (look at the Utr between men and women) so giving her circumstances it is possible
You're wrong. Adam beat Mark.....Mark is a 5.0 who beat somebody (Dillon) on the 5.0 national championship team from last year. Say whatever you want about his strokes... ratings don't mean a thing about strokes. Ratings are about winning, pure and simple.
I watched 4-5 videos from Olive, and unfortunately, she has big deficits in the tactical department. She has good technique but is too forceful. She needs to train more patterns and increase her awareness of when to play which pattern. Rule no. 1 should be: The ball decides what patterns are possible. There is too much randomness in her game right now. She needs to identify her strengths and develop patterns that force the opponent to play to them. If she can improve in these areas, she will become a much better player. She could greatly benefit from a coach with experience with high level competitive tennis players.
This isn't a ranked official match. Stop being so negative, grunting, moaning, shouting, throwing the racket, cussing in front of that kid. Teach them to be a better sportsman than you instead of giving the impression that it's okay to be like this.
She's a great athlete, but her execution is always too up and down. I coached several women who earned afew WTA points, and it was their consistency of execution that was far superior to Olive's. I wish her the best though.

LOL, Adam is the official pusher now
Grinder would be a better term, but "pusher" catches more atttention 😜
@@REALTENNIS I'd call him a "counter puncher" -- great defense, but he'll flip things and attack.
Olive played like Adam. That’s not a good sign.
Part 2 is going to be an explosion of Adam vs Adam 😬
Thunder thighs. She will do well.
🥹❤️
WTA hopeful???
20mins in. Adam is hitting those lobby balls, no pace for Olive. She needs to play Adam’s game and just keep the ball in waiting for a strike instead of getting that frustrated imo.
Great start to the match! Adam is so underrated, and the comments at the end hit on why he’s so effective. Can’t wait to see the rest of the matches with Olive!
she's got no hope of being a WTA player. Total fantasy.
At least captain hook wasn't playing today
It's 3-2 first set. You guys are going for Adam. No way.. she's locked in. I'll be surprised if he gets another game. I am calling at 6-2, 6-0.
In retrospect, this may have been premature.
@@scottbroady3159 I'll never bet against you guys again. You know the Court, you know your player Adam, you watched video on Olive.
@@tennishack You funny..🤣😂
@@scottbroady3159 premature is correct. You two dudes set the feminist movement back to the dark ages..🤣
They all present different game styles, we discussed it prior to her coming and this is what we came up with
@@dankauffman3456 Yes I've already mentioned that myself.
Olive certainly has cleaner strokes than Mark...
She has really nice mechanics!
Power doesn't always win. I play with this pusher/counter hitter guy in Homestead fl that he literally just takes the pace off every shot on his backhand with extreme slice and to top it off he makes bad call after bad call. imposible to beat someone cheating and pushing . every ball on the back line is out.
Oh Yea!!!
💪🏽🔥
if Olive didn't curse so much we could have had the whole match editted and ready to go today :) I still have her winning a close match.
😅
I believe there were some expletive utterances in my match as well.
plenty from me
my bad my bad
@@OlivePlaysTennis I'm actually trying to give Ian a hard time :)
Seems delusional to have a 1 WTA point as a goal if she can’t beat a 5.0 easily.
I think she’s not currently at that level, but she can get to it
Just wait...she's just getting started 🔥
Of course she can men tennis is so much higher than women tennis is almost a joke (look at the Utr between men and women) so giving her circumstances it is possible
@@pzh1 nah a guy with a 5.0 rating is usually around utr 8, whereas she probably needs a utr 10+ to get a wta point
it's a work in progress, my friends
Screw Australia. I'm here. Okay, I'm in two places.
Let's go!!! 🔥
If you skip your consistency drills, Adam will punish you.
Yes he will 😳
Damn, Mark so smoove with that PYC plug. Guy's a professional.
😅 he always finds a way to sneak it in
Mep is next
😱
I am not MEP
Adam has definitely become my favorite player to watch.
Be realistic, this girl is never getting into the WTA
I can't believe Adam won the set. Come on olive, put him down. God bless you and the rest of team real and essential tennis
That chinese dude is scary looking
There is no way Adam is a 5.0 player. He’s 4.5 nationally, maybe 5.0 in Milwaukee.
You're wrong. Adam beat Mark.....Mark is a 5.0 who beat somebody (Dillon) on the 5.0 national championship team from last year. Say whatever you want about his strokes... ratings don't mean a thing about strokes. Ratings are about winning, pure and simple.
@@REALTENNIS wow that was a bad loss for Mark.
You're wrong. Adam is that good.
She does like to create offense!
This isn't a ranked official match. Stop being so negative, grunting, moaning, shouting, throwing the racket, cussing in front of that kid. Teach them to be a better sportsman than you instead of giving the impression that it's okay to be like this.
WTA hopeful….you’re joking right?
Man not looking good for @olivetv
She's just getting started...🔥
WTA hopeful? She wouldnt win a point on the WTA lmao
She's a great athlete, but her execution is always too up and down. I coached several women who earned afew WTA points, and it was their consistency of execution that was far superior to Olive's. I wish her the best though.
She's got the drive and talent, we'll see what happens!
I wish you guys would stop talking so much especially during the points but maybe other viewers enjoy this part. Thanks for posting though I really enjoyed it.
It's part of the RT style, we fell it adds to the experience and have heard mostly positive reviews about having the commentary booth. Thanks for the feedback
thansk for the feedback. No one cares. Let them do it the way they want, u don't have to watch lol
I like it
Far from a pusher
Cant wait to see Topher's pants this time
😳
This Olive person is barely a decent D2 or D3 player. WTA points? Give me a break
