I have a 2015 Sorento SXL with the 3.3L V6, and the oil filter is on top, and much easier to change. The oil drain doesn't require removing the splash shield, either. What a nightmare on the newer model. Why did they decide to make everything so much more work?? Geesh!
I think what it came down to was lubrication. So they went for form over function. A filter at the top just doesn't sound like it functions or filters well. Once you accept the abuse of taking off the splash shield you get use to it. lol
Makes it harder for the owner to change. Thus more dealer changes at higher price. I just purchased a 2019 Sorento with the 3.3 engine and this will be a big help to me when I change the oil and filter for the first time.
Great music, thanks for showing all the tools and parts. I've gotten scammed at Walmart (not even changing my filter), and other local oil change place over charges, and doesn't even put a reminder sticker for the mileage and date of the change. I used to change mine all the time. Now I think I'm going back to doing mine my self.
ua-cam.com/video/7lSlvCiHh_8/v-deo.html Here's a Quick View Of it with an Autozone Filter & Costco Oil with Also Using Ramps. I perfected my method over the years! Thanks for watching! I also got a little cheaper lol.
This was the most straight forward tutorial I have seen for my Sorento. I am going to give it a go. I am surprised you didn't accidentally kick over the oil pan at 4:50! I would have DEFINITELY kicked that thing by accident. LOL
Hey thanks for watching. I know how to maneuver around vehicles that I worked on previously. Its the vehicles that I haven’t worked on before that sometimes get me into that type of trouble that you mentioned. Which I’ve definitely knocked over a bucket of oil before. Cat litter is your best friend in that case.
Great video. Thanks for producing it. I went from a 4 cylinder Mazda to a v6 Kia Sorento, and I was surprised by the price for an oil change for the Sorento. $90 at Tires Plus. I’m changing it myself next time.
Wow that’s a bit much. I would suggest giving the dealer a call and or checking their website for service coupons. I believe when I first got the vehicle, the service was around 45-50 bucks. Otherwise I get my oil and filter from the dealer every change to keep a record for warranty. Here in VA the price is 27 for the 7 quarts and filter. Good luck and thanks for checking it out. Peace ✌🏾
@Nike Doesn’t Care I found it at the Kia dealership in Virginia. In my opinion the Costco Full synthetic performed a lot better in this engine. Its the same weight but full as apposed to semi. The reason I went with that is because thats what the dealer was using and I wanted to keep all the records of service incase there was an engine issue. But yes its pretty challenging to get even at my dealership since they use it for there oil service as well.
Great video! Thanks for your time, expertise and the type of tools, sockets, etc. that will be used to complete the oil change. Is it difficult to insert the new filter element - (seems the opening is smaller on the new element)??
Yes the new filter has a smaller opening and could potentially be different than the pre-existing one. It’s made to be forced on so that it can stay seated. It’s pretty much a paper fit vs a rubber fit.
Wtf! Where the oil filter is would of totally threw me off LOL. Wife always sees me changing my oil on my eclipse and challenger and wants me to do her Sorento instead of waiting at a dealership for hours. I was actually looking for a video on where to jack her car up. I plan on using 4 jack stands on the pinch welds with pinch weld protectors. (Rotating her tires also). So I wasn't sure where the jack points were on the kia. cant seem to find a UA-cam video on that but came across yours. She has a 4 cyl base model though. So not sure if hers is the same as this one.
Sorry so late, I don’t get comments much lol. Anyway I think it may be different on the 4cyl. I think they may still be on top. I just did the brakes and used scissors Jack then I used Jack stands on the inner frame can’t remember if I used wood or not. I’m pretty careful with this vehicle but yes looking underneath made me choose my Jack style.
@@fixitcarter no worries. I never made it to her car LOL. My reverse lights on my eclipse went out a long time ago. Never bothered to change them because I figured it was a bigger issue. Both won't go at the same time. But now days with gas prices my challenger is garage kept. Driving my eclipse daily. Figure I should upgrade to some insane LEDs for reverse lights. Of course they didn't work . I knew it was a bigger issue. Tracked it down to the reverse switch on the transmission. Can finally see where I'm going backing upat night. These lights are so bright when I back into my driveway at night my cameras are in color mode because they think it's daytime lol. So that blew a couple hours of my day off. Trying to figure out why theu werent working. This Monday I should get to hers. Oh I believe her oil filter is like all my other cars. Upside down on the bottom. The typical config
Sorry, just figuring out how to actually see my messages. I have been responding to. Yeah glad that its in an easy location which isn’t too bad. That’s not a bad idea on LEDs. I do car flips all the time and definitely will consider that setup. However Mitsubishi I only like to mess with the 4 cylinders.
How difficult and which tools are needed to replace the oil filter adaptor gasket? I receive a quote from a mechanic for $500 just to remove and replace it, plus parts, oil and new filter. I know is kind of a lot of disassembling to take the engine cover plus the wheel mud/dirt cover to be able to access to the base of the part. Thank you for your answer!
I posted the video today so you can check it out to see what the job entails. But it’s not much at all if that’s parts included that might be a ok high price for replacing whole oil filter assembly. (Price through the dealer can be high, I paid a little over 70)But if that’s just for a gasket oil and filter that’s a bit high for the labor cost. Labor time should be about an hour if that it took me about 30 minutes to an hour filming to get this part replaced. The gasket shouldn’t cost more than $10-$20 at the highest. I get my oil from Costco 10 liters for $40 and my filter from Advanced Auto its typically $7 to $18. It may even be cheaper at the dealership but they never have the filters in so I don’t even waste my time trying to source it through them. Truthfully, the labor cost should be 100 to 200, 200 being generous. Sorry if there is any grammatical misunderstandings. I’m getting the kids ready for the day as I’m doing this.😂
Also the only tool you may need additionally is a torque wrench and some black RTV. Also you may be referring to oil filter housing gasket. Which is a common issue. It can happen as early as 50,000 miles.
Great idea but it would compromise the integrity of the bottom of the engine. I’ve had my fair share of vehicles with no underbody shields and it makes a difference having it.
No problem, thanks for watching. The price is typically around 40 - 50 bucks, if you go online pryer to you can usually find some type of service coupon. The dealer is fairly priced, considering what it could be on other vehicles.
@@LimpitsReef In case anyone wonders 27 mm is 1.0629 or the same size as Imperial 1 1/16. You should be able to use this inch size as well as the 27 mm.
Thanks for watching! If you go to my channel, I have a video where I’m just still on with the oil filter. I also have another video where I do the oil change is more of a quick view and you can see it there as well if you rewatch the video a link comes up at the top to the video with the filter, I believe around the time that I’m changing out that filter and the filter housing.

Hopefully you got that oil changed. Good luck 🍀
Excellent video, Thanks for putting this video together, at 68 years old I'm not sure I will be changing the oil myself.
Yes the dealership is usually 40 to 50 bucks. Well worth the labor. Check online for service coupons.
Thanks for this.

Also ramps are a godsend.
Thanks for the tips. I changed the oil today and jacked up one side to give me more space. Ramps would be better though!

What size was the oil filter cap socket?
I believe it’s a size 27mm
@@fixitcarter thank you.
No problem!
SO the splash shield has 17 10mm bolts, anyone else counted wrong, I counted him unbolting like 12 or 13 bolts???
Lol there’s 17, but if you take it to the dealership/stealership you end up with 12 or 13. I counted the holes that were missing bolts as well.

What is the recommended brand of oil for 2019 kia sorento?
The oil in the video is actually what the dealership uses. I found that the Costco full synthetic oil or mobile 5w30 synthetic performed better.
Good detail on this. It definitely really helped me. Thanks
Thanks glad I could help.

Good video for a oil change on this kia don't now what I liked about more the good how to video or the music you chose for your video
Thanks much it was a fun one to put out...I’ll try to implement in future vids!

I would cut out holes in the access panel for easier access
Great idea but it would compromise the integrity of the bottom of the engine. I’ve had my fair share of vehicles with no underbody shields and it makes a difference having it.
Just remove it forever !!
That is EXACTLY what I did.
I’m going to have to post a picture next time I change the oil. It’s still new under mine. Lol
Thanks, after watching this I went to a dealer.

Nice video, well done, I was so afraid you were going to run over or step on your cell phone though
Thanks, great foresight I actually ran one of my phones over with the creeper. Nice cracked screen 😂
Ebay keeps suggesting a Hyundai oil filter 26320-3CAA0 does anybody know if this is the same filter for both the Santa Fe and the Sorrento?
Not sure of the interchangeability but the part# for Sorento 3.3L is 26330 3CKBO Store Brand should be some variation of Ch11934. Hope this helps.
Well done! Thanks for doing this video.
No problem at all thanks for watching!
You may want to mention this is the 6 cyl model.
Will do
Yeah I was wondering bc I have a 3.3 and it only take 5 quarts
Should be 6 plus. I think 6.7 to be exact
What size socket do I need for the oil filter cap?
27mm
Use caution on the plastic, thanks @limpitsreef

Hey what size washer
RandomDudeOnUA-cam 72 not sure of the size but here’s the part number & name Oil Pan Drain Plug Gaskets Crush Washers OEM 21513-23001
great video thank you for sharing.
No problem!
nice for kia to make us take the entire splash guard off just to change the oil 😂..
Extra labor equal, extra discouragement!😂
It does keep the engine bay nice and clean I've noticed.
Really ....just another deterrent to make the average JOE to get the dealership to change the oil !! Mine is OFF forever !!!
Make the best of it and get out of a 1/2 a day of other honey do's, lol
That is true!
You need 3 ton standards. Never really on jack!
I use ramps now, it easier for oil changes.
Great video thanks
No problem thanks for watching!
