The best reaction was by Star Wars Theory, genuine and honest. Sad thing is that someone at Lucasfilm basically said it was stupid even after hearing the reason behind it
Many young people don't understand these reactions. This was a 37 year wait. Think about that for a second. For us, watching Luke MF Skywalker show up and go all out like that? I can't compare it to anything in cinema history. Almost 4 decades.... I cried like a child.
Me too. I was born 1 year before it came out and When my Dad bought a VHS in 1983 I watched Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back and Went to theater that same year to watch Return of the Jedi. I was Amazed and Star Wars is forever a Nostalgic part of my Childhood. I got to watch the Prequel trilogy with my Son as a kid, Then Rogue One and the disappointing sequel trilogy with my Son as an adult. I gave up on Newer Star Wars film but heard good things about this show and gave it a chance. I binged the first season and the 2nd was even better. This season finale was a Love letter to the Fans and Luke Skywalker. It was amazing to see a Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in his prime. A Dream come true.
That 'old lady' only started watching them a few years ago. A message to Kathleen Kennedy: These phenomenal reactions from fans of every background that you see right now is something you will never be able to recreate when your aim is to deconstruct and subvert the monomyth and legacy characters.
all the bullshit about how a white male jedi is 'racist' or somehow 'excluding' anybody and so they had to destroy him....just look how people of every color freaked the hell out with joy to see luke as he should be.....puts the lie to the 'woke' narrative. its so awesome seeing luke in his prime and how powerful he is....omg. AWESOME.
@@t4szolaluckystarhps254 relax bro. All this fervor over being "woke" is just a distraction. They didn't respect the story with the last 3 and solo just didn't connect, imo. This Mandalorian show builds on the franchise but in it's own way is darker and more in depth character development since it can explore the SW world over many episodes.
What you're witnessing is the power that REAL Star Wars had, to unite everyone regardless of age, gender, color, etc. Timeless, powerful story telling with relatable characters.
Yes, right. And Luke's line, "Talent without training is nothing" make the sequel films not canon. I don't see any way they can still leave Rey's character as having never been trained and yet be as strong as she is. Somehow, either by adding scenes in a reedited Last Jedi or in some series having scenes where Luke trains Rey. And Leia can not be the one who trains her as it should be Luke because that is who everyone waited to see training her.
Notice how many people had doubt it was Luke despite everything about him having "Luke freaking Skywalker" written all over it. Everybody was so used to being disappointed by Disney and went through the roof when we actually got what we wanted for once. So yeah, far be it from a humble human like me to eschew the value of "subverting expectations", but maybe... occasionally...it is the profitable, fulfilling, right thing to do to actually give the fans/consumers what they want/what works.
@@TheRivrPrncess I knew Luke was in the cards after Episode 14. I had heard rumors about him showing up, and he was the Jedi I wanted most of all to appear. I actually had it spoiled for me because I didn't get to watch it until that night in my timezone, which gave youtubers plenty of time to post thumbnails of Luke in the hallway. Thing is, it still got such a strong reaction out of me. At one point I involuntarily clapped my hands like a seal. We got years of material seeing Obi-wan and Anakin in their prime and I finally got to see a little of that explored with Luke. I hadn't had that much of a reaction to film since Godzilla King of the Monsters. It just works so well when legacy characters get a rework in the light we want to see them in.
@@TheRivrPrncess As Star Wars Theory said in his reaction, "Please don't give me hope." That pretty much encapsulated the thoughts of the older fans. @@zechmerquise5281 yeah but inclusiveness had nothing to do with it. Also, why would KK want to screw Star Wars? The tears of joy that are shed by those who watched this scene are the tears of the fans who for so long have been dismissed and sneered at by Lucasfilm, this is the return of Star Wars after so long. May the Force be with you.
My being a grown ass man but feeling like an 8yr old brought to tears. I didn't know how much of a hero Luke was to me until this scene. My personal best moment in all of cinematic history. To think that any of the sequels could have had 10mins like this and made the whole series satisfying.
note to self... NEVER, EVER meet any skywalker in a hallway... on another note, without a doubt, THE greatest 3 minutes on TV/Cinema in the last 20 years...
This will go down in history as one of the most epic moves in all of cinema. People will be talking about this moment for decades *This* is how you Star Wars. This is the Way
In a really crappy year, this brought a ton of joy to people. And justclike laughter is contagious, so is joy. I am about to watch Bama vs OSU for National championship and if Bama loses, I will probably watch a bunch of compilations of this to make me happy again.
It's fun to see the reactions between the older fans, and the younger fans. The younger fans don't really get the relevance of the X-Wing, but still get that it's a Jedi from their generation. (Like Cal, Ahsoka or even Ezra). But older fans get the X-Wing instantly, as well as the green saber.
We didn’t get to watch this together in theatres but watching these reactions it makes it feel like all of us star wars fans are all together again getting the hero we deserve.
I was born in 1973, so star wars has been a great part of my life. But after the sequels I didn't think they could bring it back, because they certainly didn't seem to want to. But this, and now them saying the sequels are no longer canon, just a mirror. I have hope now. And to me , what makes Luke Skywalker such a great hero , is the same things that make Peter Parker such a great hero. Just a naive kid with the power to do anything, thrust into something they can't get out of. But no matter what happens, they always do what is right. Being kind, being honorable and being respectful to everyone, regardless, are the first steps to becoming a hero. Luke and Spidey have proven that.
Rey could've been the next big thing but behind the scenes politics fucked that up so badly. The actress Daisy Ridley doesn't deserve the shit she got when it was KK's fault as well as Rian Johnson.
This episode will not be forgotten for all eternity . Mandalorian just gave all fans the most epic scene . Our inner childhood was just ignited . To see our epic jedi make an epic appearance .
To those who rammed diversity for diversities sake on the Disney made trilogy, please look at these reactions. Gay, straight, lesbians, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, men, women, old and young. All brought to tears when they see their hero Luke Skywalker. We don’t have to be the same race as our heroes, we just have to relate to them.
That’s not really the point though. We don’t have to be the same race as our heroes, but for many decades, ALL our heroes were the same race. It’s not a bad thing to try to change that, nor does doing so necessarily negate the past heroes.
The Mandalorian employed a lot of diversity both in cast and in the direction and creative teams. The problem with Kathleen Kennedy is she didn't want diversity, she wanted people who looked different but all thought like her. Favreau wanted people who loved Star Wars, employed actual diversity and gave us something awesome.
@@jeffl.304 Diversity for the sake of diversity is bad. Equality of opportunity is far more important than equality of outcome. If everyone truly wanted equal representation, one could argue that many demographics are overrepresented, when they make up a far smaller percentage of the overall population of a country than the percentage of roles they have. However, that argument is equally stupid, and discriminates equally regardless of who it benefits. They should simply hire on merit. Diversity quotas keep discrimination alive, as people focus on race, sex, etc, over their performance itself. And changing an established character, or making them act in a completely different way, only to kill them off or write them out is bad writing.
@Matt M Fair point. I still thought TFA had some Mary Sue moments, but it wasn't as in your face. Like Rey being able to fly the Millennium Falcon better than Han Solo, or beating (an admittedly wounded) Kylo Ren. Aside from it being a slightly less enjoyable retread of A New Hope, my biggest issue with the first film was how badly Fin was handled, after the misleading Trailers.
Diversity wasn't the problem. It was doing luke dirty the way they did with the new trilogy, basically sh**ing on the fandom for no reason other than to subvert expectations like nobody wanted
I've watched so many of these reactions.. The one thing that was said that resonates with me more than anything else.... "I'm going to have to watch this scene like a million times..."
"One X wing? Great, we're saved." Yes, little did Dune know, they truly were saved. When I saw that X wing, I knew right away. It was not "just" one X wing. It was THE X wing. Red 5.
As soon as I saw the X-wing I knew who it was. I expected it to be Ezra that would show up personally - I didn't think they would have the courage to do this. Luke was the one character I was certain it wouldn't be; after how Disney had handled things, I didn't believe they would do anything like this. I have never felt emotion over a TV show like I did when watching this for the first time. I didn't expect seeing the real Luke to hit the way it did. I grew up immersed in Star Wars, it's my favorite thing. But, I had essentially lost all hope for Star Wars by the time this aired - I didn't even start watching until the season was half way through. Before Disney, I would read all the books, play every game, watch every interview I could, etc. Seeing Luke, the real Luke, come back was like A New Hope and Return of The Jedi all at once, only more in real life than in story. It gave me hope for the future of Star Wars again - it made me really enjoy Star Wars again. It made me want to fight for Star Wars against the people who tried to destroy it. The memory of watching this for the first time is my favorite memory of watching any show. It brought the real Star Wars back to me, and no matter what Disney tries to do, I won't ever give that up again.
I cannot stand when people say stupid things like "Nope, de-aged" or "It's not good". What are you talking about. He HAD to be de-aged and it looks absolutely amazing.
I saw the original three in the theaters. I thought they were great and a lot of fun but being slightly older, they never "captured" me so I was never a huge Star Wars fan. But after watching these videos, I realized: I'm a fan of Star Wars fans. So glad for you that, after 38 years, they made such an episode.
There aren't many occasions in SW where A jedi crushes a droid with force, pulling or pushing maybe, but this is really a call back to ROTJ where Luke did use force choke. So luke isn't an "ideal" jedi like Obi-wan or other Jedi's during the jedi order, he is more close to a gray jedi in some ways.
Force Bombs, Crush an a few other techniques have been forbidden by the Jedi Council ( not mentioned in movies, but mentioned in the expanded universe)
It’s not the Jedi way to learn a technique which crushes someone completely. This is a droid so who cares but there would be no use for it in any other way. So yeah it’s using the dark side of the force.
Says a lot that at first, we were afraid to hope it's Luke for fear of being let down. If that right there doesn't measure how badly they fuqd up the most beloved franchise ever... Thank you John & Dave!!!
It could also be that they just wouldn't let themselves believe it was and then be hurt if it was someone else. I mean, The Last Jedi did just that in showing fans a character that they called Luke Skywalker and fans new it wasn't.
9:08 for some people this was like bringing their father or best friend back from the dead and getting to spend one last day with them. Star Wars is awesome.
imagine just how much they care about the fans. they tease us with an x-wing, into the coated jedi, but with a black and white coloration. then they give away the color, and finally the glove. such an amazing work. star wars fans respect this show so much because the directors respect the impact it had on all of their lives.
There are morons pretending to be Star Wars fans pretending they know more or care more about Star Wars than the president of Lucasfilm- one Kathleen Kennedy who organised and put writers, directors and ILM creatives together into one seamless shindig. MAGA lemmings are still demanding she be fired for booting off a MAGA warrior who was released to free speech at another studio without further antagonising Star Wars fans with her craziness and liberals trolling.
Yeah honestly I don’t mind that people don’t know it’s Luke immediately. They are still fans and that’s enough for me. Not everyone is going to know every single piece of lore.
@UCBJXLnCVBq7KXk8Yh67Oqgw every single piece of lore? It's like if I took a new friend who said they were Christian to church and they looked and asked ,"whose the dude on the cross?" Lmao, my favorite was idiot in the middle,"is that Boba Fett?"
I could be watching this videos all day. The happiness on those faces are worth more that all the money in the world. That is how much Luke is worth for them , a modern mythological hero. An icon.

Love the last guy in tears. Really shows what a personal and emotional connection fans have with their favorite characters. Which makes it all the worse what they did with the new sequels. So many people had no idea it was luke till then end, X-wing with blue R2 in back, Green Light Sabre, Guy fighting with one hand, Force Choke/Crush, and still there were people that had no clue.
The x-wing should have tipped everyone off, but the ROTJ black robe should have clinched it. The green saber and black glove were just for anyone who had doubts
@@pnut3844able Indeed. Episodes 7 through 9 left a legacy of distrust toward any Disney-sponsored product about Star Wars. Favreau, Filoni and company have the arduous task of regaining that trust. Many young people don't understand these reactions. This was a 37 year wait. Think about that for a second. For us, watching Luke MF Skywalker show up and go all out like that? I can't compare it to anything in cinema history. Almost 4 decades.... I cried like a child.
A lot of the reactors in these two compilations were pretty darn young. And they were plenty psyched, too. I found that very satisfying. 🙂
I still get teary eyed everytime i watch it. Luke in his prime was an animal😛
I like how cross-generational the fandom is, seeing that old lady with the Grogu plushie made me realised how long Star Wars has been around.
The channel belongs to her daughter ( the red head ) and together with her other daughter do tv and movie reactions to films either none of them have seen or only partially seen. They have done all the Marvel movies, Star Wars, LOTR they are working their way through the Marvel TV shows atm ( currently on Iron Fist season 1 ).
Five short years from now will be the 50th anniversary of the release of A New Hope. As if I didn't feel old, already.
Also, Storm Akima is one of my favorite reactor channels. If you watch their earlier movie reactions, the redhead's reactions are the source of more of their mother's jump-scares than is anything they watch!
@@michaelhatfield3430 I was 4 when ANH came out. First movie I ever saw in the theater. 🙂
A message to Kathleen Kennedy: These phenomenal reactions from fans of every background that you see right now is something you will never be able to recreate when your aim is to deconstruct and subvert the monomyth and legacy characters.
Modern “storytellers” don’t understand the power of narrative and the hero’s journey, that is why they fail.
all the bullshit about how a white male jedi is 'racist' or somehow 'excluding' anybody and so they had to destroy him....just look how people of every color freaked the hell out with joy to see luke as he should be.....puts the lie to the 'woke' narrative. its so awesome seeing luke in his prime and how powerful he is....omg.
Thank goodness KK is the one who green lights and produces for the Mandalorian so she was involved in the making of this show too.

What you're witnessing is the power that REAL Star Wars had, to unite everyone regardless of age, gender, color, etc. Timeless, powerful story telling with relatable characters.
This chapter alone gave Luke more respect than all of the sequels combined xD
*The sequels aren’t canon*
I have spoken.
I just want reset my memory and see this episode for a first time again
I thought the exact same thing man
Jedi Master Luke Skywalker is the true hero of Star Wars. Accept No Substitutes.
Yes. He's the reason Vader fulfilled the prophecy.
"Oh my god, we're back in Star Wars." Couldn't have said it better myself
Notice how many people had doubt it was Luke despite everything about him having "Luke freaking Skywalker" written all over it. Everybody was so used to being disappointed by Disney and went through the roof when we actually got what we wanted for once. So yeah, far be it from a humble human like me to eschew the value of "subverting expectations", but maybe... occasionally...it is the profitable, fulfilling, right thing to do to actually give the fans/consumers what they want/what works.
Save the "subverting expectations" for the RomComs!
Arthur Godwin Exactly. They just would not let themselves think it would be Luke. They figured it would not happen.

We are participating in Pandemic Theater. Welcome to 2020-2021. Glad to be with you all.

Who here misses Luke? The real Luke.

These reactions never get old. I love em! Keep em coming! Luke is back baby!
Luke brought hope back to the star galaxy again for all of us.
I love the reactions so much from everyone. The music in that scene had so much impact to the point I couldn't contain myself.
Move Rey, A real Jedi has entered the building.
Rey could've been the next big thing but behind the scenes politics fucked that up so badly. The actress Daisy Ridley doesn't deserve the shit she got when it was KK's fault as well as Rian Johnson.

Great, we're saved."
Yes, little did Dune know, they truly were saved.
The greatest Star Wars moment of this century. Thanks for this compilation.
I saw the original three in the theaters. I thought they were great and a lot of fun but being slightly older, they never "captured" me so I was never a huge Star Wars fan. But after watching these videos, I realized: I'm a fan of Star Wars fans. So glad for you that, after 38 years, they made such an episode.

people need to get over calling that crush of the last droid a "force choke / dark side move". Jedi are allowed to use the Force to break things.
Mace Windu used it on General Grievous, but it is pretty rare for the Jedi to use it tbh.
@@TheJuris1973 mace used both light and dark side techs
Says a lot that at first, we were afraid to hope it's Luke for fear of being let down. If that right there doesn't measure how badly they fuqd up the most beloved franchise ever... Thank you John & Dave!!!
You can tell the newer fans when the Green Lightsaber in the Glove comes up and they’re still asking “Who is it?” 😂🤣
It could also be that they just wouldn't let themselves believe it was and then be hurt if it was someone else.
