    I wish we got more closure on evie... It feels like they just made her out to be this evil girl who threw her friend under the buss when in fact she had an absent mother and was hyper sexual which usually comes from s.a trauma..

      Right, she was such an interesting character but they barely fleshed her out. Maybe because they wanted to focus more on Tracy’s POV? Either way, we were robbed of her true story 😔

      well the movie was co-written by who tracey is based off of, nikki, who played evie, so It kind of makes sense why they wouldn’t focus on evies character.

    • @nashhhh_
      @nashhhh_ Рік тому +10

      it's cuz the movie is based off of nikki reed's childhood, she doesn't know what happened to her evie after she moved away, that's why they didn't rly focus on her as much as tracy. tracy was nikki and evie was the girl that nikki was friends with (that moved away)

    We see Mel holding a newspaper clipping that Evie's uncle was guilty of touching her and got 7 years. We also see the scar on Evie's back so I think it's implied there is truth to what she says but she may exaggerate or lie about some other things.

    Tracy’s mom was way out of line… I mean, yes Tracy was negatively influenced by Evie, but her life wasn’t that good even before meeting her. And her mom actually seemed to play the role of a friend instead of a mother.

      Not really, more like when you are a teenager everything seems to spin around so fast that you can't recognize anymore who you are, what you're feeling, where you're going to. Is just a brief visual representation of the themes of the movie, change, turbulance, confusion.

    asides from evie’s bad influence, i feel like Tracy’s mom was also one of the reasons why tracy turned out that way- throughout the movie you can see a clear lack of discipline.. i feel like if her mom had prevented her from hanging out with evie and set some restrictions/boundaries earlier on in the movie, then tracy wouldn’t end up as the way she is now. it was clear from the start that evie was a bad influence. she could have stopped so much from happening if she only knew how to properly discipline her daughter

  • @kurono122

    I really think that Evie actually really liked Tracy, but wasn't sure how to cope or tell her. She had shown a certain closeness to her, was very attached. She also performed as a gatekeeper at times, such as when Javi was trying to get her number, or when she got possessive when Noelle tried to hang out with her. There were moments where it appeared that she liked her way more than just a friend, such as saying that she loved Tracy while she was asleep and tracing over Tracy's cuts, but never bringing it up knowing full well that it was sensitive for her. Despite everything that happened, she also felt the need to tell Tracy that she loved her when their mothers found their stashes, even when they had a falling out when Tracy sided with her mother against adopting Evie. I'm no therapist, but I would almost say that she appears to have borderline personality disorder.

      Tbh I think Evie was just very controlling and she got posesiva of her friends. Either way great analysis. I think Evie wanted to be a genuine friend to Tracy. I’ve had friends that I found out about something and I just don’t say because I know they’re not ready to share. I’ve told my friends I love them specially my best friend who I’ve known since we were in 4th grade. She’s like a sister. But I respect your opinion.

    • @imbuffysummers
      @imbuffysummers 3 місяці тому +4

      I think it comes more from a place of being possessive of Tracy’s essentially worshipping her and wanting to maintain that sense of someone who will be there unconditionally because she’s never had that before but this assessment is spot on tbh

    What I found disturbing about this movie is that these girls were actually 14 when making this movie I think Evie turned 15 during the filmining of this movie. I was also surprised to find out this movie co-written the actress who played Evie as it was written about her life. What kind of life did she have that she in real life went through this lifestyle in hollywood than had connections in hollywood - the producer was a family friend who gained interest in her to write up a screen play and make it a movie whils she is still a teenager. THAT IS A MOVIE.
    There is so much to unravel but this was bascially based on a true story which is true to many and every mothers nightmare. No one wants their child to experience cutting, drugs, sexual abuse, promiscuity, stealing, selling drugs, dealing with munipulative, friendships all the age of 13. TOO MUCH!

      The film Cuties took it even further. The characters were only 11 and the actresses only 12 and 13. The characters were totally unlikeable. They weren't even groomed when they formed that dance troupe and wore even less than the two girls in Thirteen.

    Part of me still believes that Evie is a compulsive liar and was trying to share everything with Tracy, including Javi, her family and even the pair of jeans her mom fixed for her. She wanted to establish dominance somehow in the house, to justify her being there and to stay. I sympathize but she definately wasn't Tracy's real friend in the end.

    I somehow relate to Tracy, I even have a Evie. The person who resembled evie had completely ruined up my life. I even go by Tracy, but the movie had a huge impact on me because it felt like I had been experiencing the same thing as Tracy Freeland. The movie really effected me horribly but it’s less glamorized than euphoria. It resembles a actual true story about a girl that had felt this (Nikki Reed), the movies plot is absolutely amazing and I could actually talk about it for hours and hours. That is my take on the movie ‘Thirteen’. I love the realness in the movie and it represents that you need to be careful with drugs etc. and who to trust. I absolutely love this movie and it’s so much better than things that are made these days. Mel had to deal with having her daughter yelling at her and having to find out that Tracy and Evie had done drugs and had gotten high and had also underage drinking and having sex? I’m almost thirteen and seeing this makes me scared about what might happen to me in the future. Evies side of the story is also so sad and upsetting.

    It would be lovely to hear your thoughts on "Monster" and "The Ice Storm."
    @11:02 --> I can understand her frustration. Tracey has many changes which are being forced upon her. It is obvious that she does not like the boyfriend very much and she has had to cope with serious issues, namely seeing the boyfriend under the influence of drugs and she is struggling with many issues. It is never (unless I missed something) stated what type of drugs that the two girls take.

    She's manipulative and she uses that victim card but even in general there's always a little bit of Truth behind every lie. You always have to have a little bit of foundation behind the LIE. Also at the beginning of the movie she had wrote her poem at the beginning of the school year and the end of the movie she was told she had to repeat the 7th grade. So it wasn't as fast as it seemed. But in reality it can happen pretty fast

    I’m 13 and was considering watching this movie. I thought to myself “I wanna see what happens, I’ve watched depressing things before- It can’t be that bad.” After scrolling through the IMDB page, I immediately changed my mind. It’s a movie about girls my age that do silly things for the sake of being “cool” and it’s too intense for me yet. I would say i’m mature, I’ve played The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us 2 and shed a tear at each, But even the description of the things that Tracy and Evie do in the movie made me feel awful. I’ll watch it someday, But not now.

    I watched Thirteen after leaving a toxic friend group. I wasn’t expecting it to be so realistic, and I was shocked by how much I connected with Tracy. She’s a damaged girl who isn’t as stable as everyone thinks, and she finds her way into a terrible world that consumes her to the point of almost no return. Evie was very reminiscent of my ex-friends: toxic, dangerous people who were just as wounded as me. The dynamic between Tracy and Evie is one that I’m definitely still fixated on because of how realistic it feels.

    I really do think Evie liked Tracy as a friend but wasn't sure how to tell Tracy that, then again Evie has a absent mother and being sexually/physically and emotionally abused growing up at such a young age and people do sexualise Evie alot for the way she dresses and acts due to her being assaulted through her upbringing and ik it's cruel that Evie did that Tracy, it's horrible but we don't know why she did that, there's multiple different opinions and theories on this movie that's the best part about it, but Tracy has a mother who is a drug addict recovering with a drug addict boyfriend that is bad for them all and if you can't tell Tracy has bpd and copes with all her issues, doing drugs, ideation and trying to fit in and a unstable home life bc she has bpd and is scared of being alone and abandoned especially with how she has daddy issues with her dad leaving and starting a new family, it's such a complicated movie with alot of different theories and opinions
