This is why you need to do "Bow River " live 2003, by Cold Chisel. Jimmy is the king and this band is fire 🔥. Dude, for real, this is a great rabbit hole to go down. Aussie rock rules ♥️
This song was written about Sweethearts Cafe in Kings Cross, Sydney, where the people who worked all night in the bars, nightclubs, strip joints, and walking the streets, would end their shift with a coffee and breakfast. The cafe is no longer there - it was where the McDonalds is now on Darlinghurst Road. Chisel's main songwriter Don Walker lived in the Cross around the time this song was written. Plaza is another Chisel song about the same scene.
We used to go to The Persian Room, The Manzil Room then go sit in the front window seat at Sweethearts for a cup of tea and watch the colour go by. Was a wild time to grow up in.
This Jimmy Barnes When he was alot younger. This is when he first started out with Cold Chisel. This is a calm one for them. He was known to walk thru the crowd and dive off the stage.
Name is Jimmy motha'truckin'Barnes! My first time in Oz (2010), touched down and took a cab to my hostel in Sydney... "Flame Trees" came on the radio and I was pouncing on the cabbie to tell me what the hell that was. Went into the hostel and they had satellite tv tuned to some music video station - "Flame Trees" music video was playing again! (Went downstairs all jetlagged and turned on the MLB playoffs where my Reds were on against the Phillies. Drunk Irish dude laying on a communal couch saying this was boring....the Reds got no-hit.) Flame Trees is still an absolute all time jam (and has a forever sentimental place in my heart, Jay Bruce walk saving us from a perfect game, be damned.) Glad people are discovering the infection of Jimmy B. and Cold C.
WELCOME!!! To the world of Cold Chisel....one of the greatest bands to come out of Oz. They never got the recognition they deserved. Check out their version of 'Wild Thing' from their Last Stand concert in '83.....awesome performance.
Australia's greatest Rock band ever. Cold Chisel..Whoot Whoot. Jimmy Barnes went solo later and still sings at 65. Now U need to check out John Farnham .
The unbelievable legend Jimmy Barnes lead vocalist of Cold Chisel but Ian Moss the guitarist also was lead singer for some songs - have listened to Jimmy for well over 40 years - love him - you reacted to him recently 'Stone Cold' - he is still touring today
Interesting choice for your first foray into Cold Chisel/ Jimmy Barnes- it's one of their 'slower' numbers, to be sure; most people here, however, know them as one of the all-time great old-school rock bands...
You need to do wild thing by them early live version It's titled cold chisel wild thing (last stand) Ian moss 🎸 make it match jimmy's voice and a person screaming in the crowd he matches it on guitar 🎸 They do heaps of freestyling in this This the band Jimmy was in before solo Jimmy and Ian used share the singing they had two singers Ian as good as Jimmy and john in a different way
you have already reacted to jimmy barnes, once with John farnham with when something is wrong with my baby, and once with joe bonamassa stone cold, now you have heard him with his band, cold chisel
Hangover Music after a big one . Sweethearts was real cafe in Sydney. Checkout Saturday Night by Cold Chisel , got the vibe of Kings Cross back in the day!!!!
They have maybe another 6 or so reggae influenced songs of their 20 something hits. This band is part of the heart of Australian people. They are up there with ACDC and in some ways more significant.
Pub rock in OZ mate....this is how we ragged in the late 70,s......good and no technical devices...and we all loved the live pub bands and stilll doooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mellow song but still with a bit of grit to it (times when you've been up all night - musician, shift worker, just out on the town and still haven't managed to get home etc etc and thinking your still awake - have some breakfast 🥞 - watching as the rest of the world wakes up) BUT from the same album is a song that's a total contrast - full of adrenaline with a 12 bar blues/Chuck Berry feel to it : Goodbye(Astrid Goodbye) ; recommended for being one of Cold Chisel's finest but underrated gems 💎
Oh, the best part of Aussie rock culture over American rock culture. We had A grade rock playing at pub level, not stadiums or concert halls. Pop down to the local on Friday or saturday night and you had Jimmy barnes, screaming jets, baby animals, midnight oil, big pig oh the list went on and on.
Hah ha! I love your reaction man. We grew up with this stuff. If you wan to hear some great old Australian Blues, go and checkout "Chain" Black n Blue. 1972 I thinks.
Brother you're fun to watch! I'd like to see you react to their live performances of "When the war is over " and "Bow River ". Also Jimmy Barnes' "Stone Cold" feat.Joe Bonamassa.
Jimmy Barnes was lead singer of cold chisel one of my favorites, Love Cold Chisel - "Bow River" ua-cam.com/video/TdVRNDnTKTU/v-deo.html Ian moss on guitar had a great voice & solo career as well, ''my baby'' is good, Cold Chisel - Saturday Night [Official Video] ua-cam.com/video/lelsyP9qL2I/v-deo.html, Georgia ua-cam.com/video/NhFXjzRRv4w/v-deo.html Tucker's Daughter, Out of the Fire, Janelle.
Australia is unique in that the bands and singers have a small audience to capture, and they had to do it in pubs. That means they had to appeal to everyone so they either mixed genres in the songs, or at least across their sets. If you weren't keen on one song on the night, you used that time to go and grab a drink and by the time you came back 'your' music was playing again. If you didn't like the start of a song, you could probably still hum the tune or sing the chorus, if not ignore it and tune back in again in a couple of minutes. Plenty of people are recommending Bow River from 2003, please don't watch that one. Mossy makes a mistake in the first verse and misses a line. There is a reason this is still the Official Film Clip on the Cold Chisel Channel. ua-cam.com/video/y2by810nulE/v-deo.html
Sweethearts was a safe local cafe in the heart of kings cross ,Australia’s bullseye for scum bags, prostitution, clubbing n drugs, 2 klm east of Sydney’s Hyde park
There is a song they do, I can’t recall the name, it’s about his girl getting an abortion and the pain associated with it, sounds crazy but the song is so good. Anyone know what I’m referring to ?
This is only the tip of the iceberg for Chisel. This band holds a special place in the hearts of all Australians.
ITA.....Aussie +
Just so pleased that this music is getting recognised in the US for its “quality vibe”, as the man said. Cold Chisel is a journey not a band.
