Nice one. Always good to see people like yourself restore what would otherwise be lost to time. And hello from Scotland 🙂

Hey man, UA-cam randomly recommended me this video. Wasn't expecting much but ended up watching the whole thing, was very well paced and very interesting! Just subscribed and I hope to see more!

I built machines in the late 90's to early 2K's and we had a very nice buffing wheel and polishing compounds. I was the CD/DVD repair king back then. I would take 10-20 disks to work and fix most of them. I used a flash light to reject any repairs on the data layer.

Worked on my copy of Brazil. It was in one of those boxes that has 2 discs on one holder causing fall out of place it and giving it 2 small scratches. It would stop at one scene, applied the solution as directed and it blew past the scene as if there was no scratch at all. Thank you.

Interesting video, thanks for sharing! One note, your audio levels are really low (peaking at -18dB). Try raising the volume to have the peaks at around -6dB before exporting.

Lets see the video! I remember the "hacks" back in the day, usig toothpaste, rub a banana, etc.
I also remember when a cousing used alcohol and the disc never worked again

In the past, I remember that when you bought a used game at Game Stop, they would sand and polish the disk for free then they tested the game on the local console. They did that to prove the game wasn’t damaged and because there was no refund

I am a disc media seller. I need to bump up my resurfacer. Have a $300 one. Does what it needs for now.
And was that a clip of Brittney Murphy? I miss her. Always so bubbly.

If anyone is doing volumes I'd definitely say get a real machine (skip the disk doctor and flimsy plastic units). If you have a JFJ, you should be ok to use some Meguirs on the polishing disc. It can get a little gummy if it dries too much, but doesn't crystallize into anything gritty
Haha and yes it was. She was great, and had an amazing voice. I sampled some of her voice to do an AI model to read me some long documents a while back. The clip is from an MTV segment that was just called Brittant Murphy at blockbuster.

@@nanonomad Less than 1% of what I buy ever needs resurfaced. I used to take a stack of 30+ to a CD exchange place and get them done for $1 each. They bumped that $2 this year.
I Got a deal on a JFJ at a "AZ returns" bins store for $300. Got the solutions 1 & 2 from JFJ on AZ. Retail new are over $2000. I've used it a handful of times. However, it has a minor grinding sound in the the motor area. Use when it's absolutely a must.
Most discs just need cleaned. Lowest "condition rating" I list at is "very good" rarely "good" or below. There's just so many thrift stores within 45 minutes of me - Mentor, Ohio.

Very interesting. My uncle still has his jfj disc repair machine. Wonderful machine. I wonder if he can still get polishing compound and pads.

Amazon should have the consumables. I know JFJ is still around. You can use the Meguirs as polishing compound in there, but I'm just not sure if you can entirely substitute it and get the same results.
Thanks for the comment. Theyve helped a ton. This is the first video I've posted in a year that is getting shown to the correct audience 😃
