The best Portuguese pianist ever!
sublime, comovente. Emoção pura❤
I will always treasure this amazing performance and the special day when ARTUR PIZARRO at 22, unanimously won the prestigious Leeds Pianoforte Competition 30 years ago! I was all but there for this monumental day. It will stay with me for life! Thank you for posting this...I can finally put my cassette recording to rest.
I saw him perform the Rachmaninov 3 a few years ago in Lisbon's Sao Carlos. That wasn't half bad, either.
wow, I know the pianist but not as a 22 year old and I am in awe of the maturity of his playing. A true and sincere musician even back in 1990
I watched it live on TV. I still have the VHS of it too. I also recorded the semi-final recital where he played Chopin Op.25, Rach 2nd sonata and Debussy children's corner. The Debussy and Chopin Op.25 is the best I have ever heard. I still play those recording once in a while.
The greatest 1st prized Leeds piano competition winner and best final to date!
Did you know that Pizarro cames from a piano tradition/teaching that leads to Liszt himself! Yes! Here's how:
He studied 17 years with another portuguese (and stepfather) - Sequeira Costa, a world famous pianist (died some years ago..) that was, among many things, envited by Shostakovitch (when this heard him play) to be a jury to the 1st Tchaikovsky competition (and he was only 26 i think) with KAtchaturian, Kabalewsky, Gilels, etc. (he was a jury there 6 more times) Well, Sequeira Costa had been pupil of Vianna da Mota, a portuguese pianist that belongs to the world history of piano and this was a pupil of Liszt. So, indirectly, Artur Pizarro knowledge is linked to Liszt himself.
That's your nationalism talking. Pizarro is good not the greatest.
I was there. Remember seeing Dennis Healy in the lobby beforehand
