The 2015 Apple TV vs SHIELD vs Roku 4 vs Fire TV: what's the best streaming device?
With 4K support, serious gaming power and great apps there are a lot of great options when it comes to streaming set top boxes but in this video I compared the best out there: the 2015 Apple TV 4th generation, NVIDIA SHIELD TV, Roku 4 and 2015 Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition.

the title of the video implies that he'll say which "streaming" device he thinks is best....yet he spends a vast majority of the video comparing the "gaming" aspect of the devices like wtf? this isn't a gaming console comparison, we came to find which is the best for "streaming" music and video...
Woah there partner, chill the fuck out. This is austin's channel and therefore his videos, whether relating to streaming videos, or toothpaste, will depict his personal interests, and his opinion. If you want some bullshit video comparison where the only thing that is actually compared is price and which one was easier to be configured, then you can find that on another channel.
I happen to like that he focused on the gaming aspect, because it's something that not many other people realize these devices are capable of. If you just want to see which one plays a youtube video to your best liking, then look elsewhere. I'm not even an austin fanboy (not subscribed), but he's smart enough to realize that's not a video that is unique to him, which is what people's youtube channel's are all about.
+VanillaCracker it's okay I'm not bagging on Austin or anyone in particular, I've seen a few videos like this recently, I'm cool with that fact that he based this toward gaming but he should've mentioned that in the title because it's not personally what I was looking for but later realized in the video after a few minutes, that's all I'm saying :D

When comparing products, I wouldn't have one of those products sponsor your video. That creates a bias.

The problem is when someone's paying for you video you're gonna wan't them to pay you in a future video so even if they said, "we're cool with you shitting on our product" you still would feel obligated to make their product look better.

You can cast youtube from your computer to xbox one. just discovered that yesterday. I have my apple tv connected to my xbox for airplay though.

+Paul Basikila HDMI 1.4 can support 4k, but only at 30Hz so its not the best experience.

I just got a third generation Apple TV for Christmas, and so far I am really enjoying it! I can't play any games on it, but I already have my iPad Air that can play any mobile games quite well, and a WiiU that can play more intensive games very well.

Apple TV is the best option cuz it does what its advertise for. The other boxes seem to me wants to be also your PS4 replacement.

How about a cheap media PC? Slap an AMD processor in there, multitasking will run great and the price will be right. A mid range AMD GPU, maybe a 270x (or cheap out and get a 7850 which will be more than enough to decode 4K). Controls can either be some sort of controller or trackball+keyboard.

Simply use steam in-home streaming + plex and now you've got a streaming box that not just streams content but lets you browse the web or w/e else you'd like to do, now sure you could say that isn't extremely easy to setup or not as easy to use, but I wouldn't expect someone such as my parents to care about streaming devices in the first place, so they probably aren't the target audience for such devices.

Just get a Xbox One S, it does all the things the Shield TV does, and can watch Blu-Rays and play games in addition to that.

The only way to stream kodi on the Xbox One S is have a kodi installed on the amazon fire stick and plug it into the the second hdmi port on the back of the One S

I really like the Fire TV from last year and don't have any issues with the UA-cam app. I also really like that you can connect a Bluetooth speaker to it.
I have 2 Nvidia Shield TVs and can't be happier. I have also have Apple TV 3 which I don't use much today. With iPhone being able to stream to Chromecast, I don't use Apple TV to stream much. As for game playing, I don't play much, but for the racing car games that I do play it's fun and given that it's streaming to the device and being a Cloud Architect, they have done a great job hosting the games in the Cloud and streaming to my device. Oh the best part at least for me is, being able to play Mame games on the device.
Nvidia shield is the best dude it's got good gaming and 4k and many apps.

apple streams in 4k?, can you add your own content to any of them, like adding it on a micro sd or external HD? so only one does all that and can be used to game
Too bad you didn't include Steam OS Link here: for most of your audience who already have a gaming PC it basically beats all these options at a fraction of the price.

I don't have any of these yet but I do have the Amazon Fire Stick, which works like a charm.
The only question you should ask is which one is the best for streaming without transcoding from the NAS ? So which one can have the most codecs

+Nahid Islam Um, no. The phone / computer / tablet serves as a remote for the Chromecast. Chromecast streams the content you're watching over the internet. The device only serves as a remote, and does not send the content to the Chromecast.

For Now, I've got a Roku 3, and a Sony blu-ray player for streaming and disc playback.
I chose the ROku back before the appleTV was updated, and when it was one of the best player. i still find it the best option when it comes to amount of content available, and a reasonable cale replacement. I find Apps such as Netflix UA-cam, etc to be pretty up to date when compared to other devices. Roku's netflix channel uses the current interface, and as far as I know, so does UA-cam for the leanback interface. I will say there are apps that don't get updated a lot though , that's more the channel developer, then Roku.
Overall, i've been very satisfied with it. Great video.
There is no optical port on the Apple TV (the old version has one) thus putting it at a disadvantage if you want to stream music from computer to hi-fi using an out board DAC such as the irDAC.
Why didn't you mention how the Shield doesn't have Amazon Instant Video? It's kind of a big deal. Also, the Shield is by far the most expensive. Since I'm not being paid by anyone, I would recommend Roku 4.
I have a Shield Android TV and there is an Amazon Instant Video app that runs on it. The Shield is a much better value than the Roku 4. The Shield has more up to date hardware. The Roku 4 and even the new Roku Ultra are using older hardware. For what you get you are actually overpaying for the Roku 4 and Roku Ultra. Roku skimped on the RAM & internal storage. Also Roku is still using USB 2.0 which is now two generations old and Fast Ethernet instead of Gigabit Ethernet. Roku is spending a lot less on their hardware than Nvidia.

I understand that you want to make a living out of UA-cam, but don't let it hurt your content. Why would NVIDA sponsor the video if you didn't say that their device was the best?

One major edge the Roku has over the Fire TV is with the Roku, there's no headache inducing registration process where the Fire TV won't sign into your Amazon account even though you sent the right email and password info.

Ned Stark yes. I can achieve the same thing these streaming boxes can and then some. Can you view multiple content on different windows on these boxes? Can you pause your media and jump right into browsing the Web then go back to your media seamlessly on these devices? Can you get Pushbullet notifications while watching a movie or on the Web with these devices. I can go on.

Austin, what about Razer Forge TV? I'm really curious as to how it measures up to the Shield, especially since (from what I understand) won't have as strict video card requirements for game streaming from PC as the Shield when it eventually launches.
I've try them all off them and honestly,I don't change roku for any of those,I got the Apple TV 4 a few days ago and roku for me still the best

I know that I love my shield tablet, it's powerful, runs games and gamestream, and can connect to the TV for a streaming box on the go. It doesn't surprise me that the Shield console is a clear winner as well.

wich one would be the best for 1080p 60fps video streaming??? not quite for gaming but for smooth streaming over a Wireless N router (wich is in the same room as the TV)
If you install kodi on Fire TV you can use the UA-cam addon to look at videos which works quite nice. The UA-cam addon from kodi is down but there is a third party addon that fixes UA-cam just look it up on UA-cam.
You forgot to mention that the Shield can stream from a desktop with a qualified Nvidia GPU like the new GTX 900 series. This gives it another huge boost as a set top gaming box/streaming box.
