Love the look! Definitely paying homage to the illustrations of that time. I hope you do continue this series with 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s!
You won't see this but hey! My grandma would be in her early twenties in the 1920s and your make up is exactly how I remember her in the 1960s when I was a child. Alas in the 1960s she looked crazy. Yet this was the make up of her youth. Thank you for this.
I think the most telling thing about this look is how it is in black-and-white. Rather than looking as vivid, it looks more like natural shadows, and is even quite subtle (except for the lips, brows, and lashes, but those were probably considered the most important when it came to film due to how expressive they are). Even the bright red rouge looks like a natural contour in black and white!
Actually in black and white they used weird colors, they never used red in makeup for film unless it's a dark film because it was seen as too dark for normal movies
That grayscale literally gives 20's diva! You lose it in color, but the depth you get when you hit your grayscale filter is just everything! Sorry I'm 2 years late, I just found you and I'm obsessed!
What's interesting is that when you put it in black and white, the look suddenly looked very soft and very effective. A cool thing to think about is how beautiful this makeup looked in black and white. The colors seem jarring by today’s standard, but the placement makes so much sense in the era of silent film!
From what I've heard, the over the top colors or sometimes heavy, dark make-up also had to do with film. Movies, photographs,... were all in black and white. And a lot of make up, especially lighter colors, simply doesn't show in black and white. So in order to see it on film, they had to use pretty heavy, bold make up.
I love it. My grandmother was a flapper girl and it’s fun to see how she might have done her makeup. I would like to read the articles you sited. Please do more decades of antique makeup.
I love the lips, mine are full as well, so I'm tempted to try this shape. The eyebrows look great on you btw. Now, as someone who ALWAYS has dark circles, maybe I'm secretly hoping this rouge application comes back hahaha
i love that you got input from an expert and appreciated the process and the look, rather than making fun of it, the way most people would. as a historian, this is much appreciated!
I've always loved that 1920's lip shape! I don't tend to wear lipstick on a daily basis, but whenever I do end up using one, I almost always line my lips into a similar shape.
I love the lip shape. I can imagine my grandmother in her teens in the 20's (auburn hair, green eyes). I think she would have mixed the blush with powder to soften it, but I can envision the lip shape. I've seen photos and she did not emphasize her brows, just kept them their natural dark brown. I'd love to go back to the 20's just to watch her as a concert pianist. Thank you for doing this!
Make-up wasn't like that, that's just an artistic drawing. Regular make-up in the 20's was intended to be VERY natural and you wouldn't use any type of eyeliner. Only movie stars would accentuate their eyes like that and it was only for the cameras to get their features, so it was only cinema and theatre make-up. So your granny would probably wear just a bit of powder. It wasn't so difficult to get the fashionable face as it is today, it was mostly the hair that was difficult.
@@enlosluceros7236exactly! Nikkie isn't showing us what women actually wore in the 20's. I think that she struggled with the complete scale down that was needed to match the era. Nikkie was showing us what stylized illustrations looked like, rather than photographed women's faces.
Just gotta say, love the brows. I've always preferred trying to keep my brows looking as natural as possible and I think it really does suit you. If you're looking to do time piece makeup looks, maybe try Victorian era, think that would be really fun even if it will be super hard to get it 100% authentic. I'm a Classical History Major and one of the things we did look at was the beauty standards of women for those days and some of it looks really fun and interesting. Anyway, love the look and effort you put into this, very cool.
There’s some ppl who have channels dedicated entirely to this and they are SO COOL. One girl made Victorian hairspray with like uh rock glue and rose water and other stuff and made her straight hair into these crazy super tight curls using just a rag! It was crazy!
truly, i do my eyebrows very similar to this because i follow my natural hair growth pattern, i dont get wanting to over fill your brows, it doesnt work for me at all (i'd have permanent RBF lol, and i'm not a grouchy person.). I also strongly favor what my mom calls 'garage door' eyeshadow (one solid light color on the whole lid) and winged eyeliner.
@@rachelcarson3877her brows are pretty, but they are far more 1990's than 1920's. She would have been better off by cheating a bit with the brow glue and grease paint to cover her existing brows, much like drag artists do, so that she could have drawn in the more dropped down 20's brow.
I actually kinda love this makeup? Even if it's so different from today's standards, it has a theatricality to it that really stands out! I'd love to see more decades from the 20th century! Maybe even something historical? And btw, antiek sounds just like antique in french, I wonder if the words come from the same root.
*NIKKIE* is my inspiration!! My mom said that if I got 32k subscribers!! She definitely buy me a professional mic!! *begging you GUYS alot* literally begging..
It’s weird and it works! I love that all our great-grandmas were trying to make this look happen by candlelight and with whatever makeup they got their hands on. Love them for that!
@@prettypants08 yeah, but not every home had it. My grandma told me that they were using lanterns for a long time before her family finally installed lightbulbs. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they were living in a country side
My mom used "pancake" makeup up until the early 2000s. They still sold in in drugstores. I think it was Covergirl. It came in a navy blue rectangle plqstic case with a little square spunge and had a built in mirror. I remember playing with it as a kid. It was definitely greasy.
You absolutely SLAYED this look. There’s no way I could pull it off. My great grandma thought to match her lips and cheek, would just use a touch of lipstick and blend with her fingers! No need for blush!
Lol, her face actually dropped. You could tell that was a real feeling, although I'm sure she had seen the video before but it still took the smile off her face 😂 it would have mine too, well a few months ago it would. I couldn't go without highlighter at one point but I'm not so bothered about it now. Also, hello Melody, it's not often I see other people with the same name as me. I'm from the UK and it's a very rare name here. I've only met one other Melody in my entire life and I'm 35 now
i’d LOVE to see a modern interpretation of this from you!! **ESPECIALLY** if you tried to mesh it with more of a downturned eye shape that you see in illustrations from back then!!!
I think that’s wat gave ‘20s their charm the b&w photography of the makeup made the brow n mascara down turned eye expression something melancholic vibe to them n ofc the pout n curls
I think you did an amazing job paying homage to the 20's and following both Erin's tutorial and the suggested texts. It really came together for the whole time period look! Very Anteik indeed!! I would love to see you do more of these as a series into vintage make up. I love Erin's channel for that look into makeup history, and I think this would be a fun endeavor! Well done!
I’d love to see like one 1920’s feature mixed with 2020’s makeup. For example just the eyebrows, or just the blush. I think the mixture would be really interesting!
I somehow fell in love with the blush placement. Not in that color but I think the placement is absultly adorable and it looks stunning in black and white
I decided to try this blush placement and it actually works really well for my face 😳 I tend to not wear foundation because my skin is sensitive but my cheeks are always red, so the blush hides it. I need more of this series!!
You should do either ancient Egyptian makeup, like Cleopatra era, or 1770's France like Marie Antoinette! That would be super fascinating to see! Both had some pretty intense makeup that would be awesome to recreate! Not so much Antiek as much as historical lol! Love you gorgeous, and I loved the crazy blush 😆
Wait what? This is gorgeous! it seems weird at the first but when you just switched the color of your video to black and white it's absolutely look aesthetic and beautiful! Love the look 💕
Once everything was completed the look really came together and you look beautiful. I like it. The lips are gorgeous. I think this is perfect for a themed party, obviously not an everyday look.
I worked for Estée Lauder for 9 years and am still obsessed with makeup. I have always had an issue doing my Cupid’s bow when I wear 20’s inspired lip looks but yours looks great! I really enjoyed this video. 😊
I loved the antiek makeup look. It reminds me of movies from the 1920s and while I'm recovering from my 6th major spinal fusion, my last one was on December 30, 2021 which has been hard to recover from. That's why I enjoy watching your videos, I don't feel very attractive after everything I have been through, so I watch your videos while I am having to lay still while I run my bone stimulator for 2 hours every. It has given me the confidence to put some makeup on, I really like your passion for make up, even for those who can't afford the expensive brands, you explain that some drug store or more affordable brands work just as if not better than the expensive ones. I appreciate your honesty! Sincerely, Ashley Harper
I wish you a healthy and speedy recovery! I understand how you would feel less attractive with all you've had going on, but I am sure you're beautiful regardless. Take care.
I love this woman she's adorable...SHE'S INCREDIBLY TALENTED and she deserves more hype. I literally learned how to do my makeup just by watching her videos, she made me love makeup and I'm really thankful for u nikki ❤
My mom, born in 1929, said there was a short phase where very dark brown lipstick was a thing (mid-40s). She tried wearing the look to work. Her boss promptly pulled her into his office and, with reverse psychology, told her just how wonderful and marvelous she looked. He was so over-the-top with it that she got the ‘hint’ and never wore it again! LOVE the blush position! Gotta try it. You honored this ANTIEK look and rocked it. ❤️
@@arjantjeee most Americans mind their own and don’t insult people. Unless of course it’s on the internet, then everyone’s brave because the risk of being punched in the mouth is taken away😊
They did, but the drama were heavy in the eye/eyebrown lining and the lips, everything else was more toned down(daytime) to look natural. Because heavy make up was fronwed upon
I get the blush under the eye for a “youthful” look. It seems a bit extreme in the 20’s but I tend to use a pink toned powder under my eyes (I loved the Becca pink haze one ) and I feel that it brightens my face up and makes me look a lot less tired.
Love going back to this video cause this look is beautiful. Trust the process!! When everything was on, it felt like a different time. I swear if movies emulating past eras actually followed the style, it would transport me. I still wanna see more of this.
I love this "series!" It would be cool if you could do a second half of "modernizing" the look, maintaining the "focus" of the period, but maybe changing colors or toning down aspects.
I love this so much! I've always loved the bizarre eyes and eyebrows of the 1920s, it's so cool to see it brought to life! Fun fact: cameras during this time couldn't really pick up red, so movie actresses would have to wear almost black makeup to have it show up. That is why makeup in many photographs looks so dramatic compared to in illustrations.
I think the eyebrows and the lip really, really works. Looks gorgeous - and if the blush were lighter and with different eyeshadow could totally be a great look in modern times.

So excited for this series. I want the whole gambit!!! And I’d also love to see a re-do with you taking what you liked and making a more modern version of each look. Super fun watching the transformation to the antiek version of Nikki. And learning all the cool historical facts from Erin. Much love.
I used to use Max Factor pancake makeup in the 70’s and early 80’s. It actually was better coverage than you would think. It dried into a powder and was great for my very oily skin. I think it’s still sold in some overseas countries.
This was so fun. We definitely need more! The antiek look from the 1920's I'd carry over to now is definitely the lips. Very cute with the heart shape. :)

I actually want to try this now, but everything with softer lines, so to speak (and without falsies, because I don't have them). Sometimes I forget that make-up is just having fun and trying out a bunch of stuff instead of getting a "perfect" look. I actually went to a 20's party once and although my brows where too bushy for this, it looked really fun! I didn't know about the blush back then, so I really want to try that :)
I'm not mad at those brows. If I were going to a 20's themed party I would totally rock this look and not feel weird at all. It's all about context. I'd love to see a tutorial on how to do Princess Grace Kelly's makeup.

I don’t watch your videos that often- I don’t watch videos often period, especially makeup videos. One thing I see all the time is the “decades time lapse” those are NEVER accurate to the actual makeup worn in that decade!! I LOVE that you researched a ton and did a true to the decade look that is historically accurate! You would look beautiful in any makeup or non makeup look- but I really loved seeing this! I would love a decade’s makeup series the way you’re doing it!! Love it!!
I was worried about the blush at first, but with the whole look together, I feel like the 20’s should make a comeback in makeup trends, albeit with more freedom from the tutorials of the day.
Honestly behind the blush was applied, I kind of loved it!! Haha. Somehow the longer I look at those eyebrows, the more I like the style on you. Looks very feminine and shapes your eyes really well. It’s like your drawn straight to your eyes.

So your granny would probably wear just a bit of powder. It wasn't so difficult to get the fashionable face as it is today, it was mostly the hair that was difficult.
@@enlosluceros7236 Thank you!
@@enlosluceros7236exactly! Nikkie isn't showing us what women actually wore in the 20's. I think that she struggled with the complete scale down that was needed to match the era. Nikkie was showing us what stylized illustrations looked like, rather than photographed women's faces.
Nikkie is fabulous without makeup! Gorgeous skin.
I was thinking 'what's wrong with the brows?' But then, I'm practically vintage myself, so what do I know?
I think the brows look very nice on Nikkie!
@@larsonfamilyhouse wait what???
Me too ! I love a thin eyebrow it brings out my other features❤️
The brows are lovely, they’re very feminine, delicate and shape the face perfectly
I also think.
truly, i do my eyebrows very similar to this because i follow my natural hair growth pattern, i dont get wanting to over fill your brows, it doesnt work for me at all (i'd have permanent RBF lol, and i'm not a grouchy person.). I also strongly favor what my mom calls 'garage door' eyeshadow (one solid light color on the whole lid) and winged eyeliner.
Was about to say I love the brows
It was classic, I hate the modern brows i think they look like drag queens
@@rachelcarson3877her brows are pretty, but they are far more 1990's than 1920's. She would have been better off by cheating a bit with the brow glue and grease paint to cover her existing brows, much like drag artists do, so that she could have drawn in the more dropped down 20's brow.
I actually kinda love this makeup? Even if it's so different from today's standards, it has a theatricality to it that really stands out! I'd love to see more decades from the 20th century! Maybe even something historical? And btw, antiek sounds just like antique in french, I wonder if the words come from the same root.
Well this wouldn’t be their daily makeup, this was theatrical makeup
"I'm gonna take this as a compliment even though my insecurity will take this as an insult". I love how you worded that.
Nikkie I love this concept! Would love to see you try more looks from different decades!!! ☺️💕
Its interesting cuz makeup prob for parties in the evening so ppl didn’t see all the flaws lol unless they were in daylight
Girl, candlelight 💀 electricity existed before the 1920s
@@prettypants08 yeah, but not every home had it. My grandma told me that they were using lanterns for a long time before her family finally installed lightbulbs. Maybe it has to do with the fact that they were living in a country side
that made me feel nostalgic for a time I didn’t live in
@@prettypants08 for my grandpa they didnt have electricity in the 20s
My mom used "pancake" makeup up until the early 2000s. They still sold in in drugstores. I think it was Covergirl. It came in a navy blue rectangle plqstic case with a little square spunge and had a built in mirror. I remember playing with it as a kid. It was definitely greasy.
And the sparkles and the silver? 😁😅 i wore this all throughout middle school e zero mascara
I swear... every women in my fam lol I use to play with it too
Pancake makeup is Max Factor. My Mom used it too. The stick version still exists!
Max Factor
I dont think we had max factor in Canada from what irc.
You absolutely SLAYED this look. There’s no way I could pull it off. My great grandma thought to match her lips and cheek, would just use a touch of lipstick and blend with her fingers! No need for blush!
Okay but the eye makeup with that milky skin is literally ethereal
: “As for highlighter…”
Nikkie: “Uh-huh!”
: “There is no highlighter.”
Nikkie: **stares into the unknown abyss**
😭
"How could this happen to meeeeeeeeee, I made my mistakes."
But the colored illustrations turns into a diff story lol cuz of the dramatic blush
Well done!
You look beyond adorable. This is also giving me Queen of Hearts vibes from the live action version!
Totally voting for doing more decades looks!
Yes!!! Lol, so crazy, but I love it!
I’ve always loved how they painted their lips. I wish it would make a full on comeback - it’s just cute.
you can do that, other people should do what they like 😜
I’d love to see like one 1920’s feature mixed with 2020’s makeup. For example just the eyebrows, or just the blush. I think the mixture would be really interesting!
Love how they did soap brows back then!
why do I actually LOVE IT???
Girl u NEED to make this a series and do every decade from the 1900s to the 2020s decades
Erin parsons is my favorite & best makeup artist out there! She is a renaissance woman ♥️🤍🖤💯 💄
please continue this as a series!! i wanna see the sort of realistic version of how the makeup used to be, and then ur own spin on it!!
Oh I would love to see that too!
I think it's gorgeous, honestly. I love the vintage doll-like look! Wouldn't wear this anywhere but a Decades party, but I love it! You look amazing!
Wait what? This is gorgeous! it seems weird at the first but when you just switched the color of your video to black and white it's absolutely look aesthetic and beautiful! Love the look 💕
I actually really love the brows and I would love a whole series like this. I wonder how you feel about early 2000s pencil brows haha.
Me too! Makes me want thin brows
thin brows r so cute
I agree and I think the brows look really beautiful on her. Yes, it's different but it's still quite beautiful!
Once everything was completed the look really came together and you look beautiful. I like it. The lips are gorgeous. I think this is perfect for a themed party, obviously not an everyday look.
i love how youthful and playful this look is!! truly an ode to the vivacious and lively 20's
Sincerely,
Ashley Harper
Hope you recover soon
How mean by his part. :(
That's so American to do
That passive aggression sounds Southern.
@@arjantjeeenot really most Americans are really kind
@@arjantjeee most Americans mind their own and don’t insult people. Unless of course it’s on the internet, then everyone’s brave because the risk of being punched in the mouth is taken away😊
I actually love this look on you. Make up should be fun above all else and this screams FUN!
This is definitely a screen makeup hehe, I would love to see a daytime/average woman 1920s makeup look.
I bet the average woman didn’t wear makeup back then.
@@Immaculately.vibing They did
They did, but the drama were heavy in the eye/eyebrown lining and the lips, everything else was more toned down(daytime) to look natural.
I totally agree! I am really curious to try the lipstick look.
like a pastel blue shadow, and baby pink blush 😩😩😩😩
Straight, English guy here, who actually really enjoys makeup videos as they are therapeutic. I got watching them thanks to UA-cam's algorithm, and I have been directed to you the same way. Love this. Its not just relaxing to watch, but educational too.
Antique* lol
Sorry, had to. All love!
@@LoryBelle that’s the Dutch word of the day she said at the end. So, she’s correct. Antiek.
I love the heart shape too!!
@@OllyhayOffittmay oh! Wow, I’m sorry then, my mistake! Of course the one time I don’t finish the video all the way through I say something silly like that. Thanks for letting me know, & sorry to Renee!
@@LoryBelle I almost missed it too! I think it’s so cool how it is so close to antique.
Omg if anyone can pull this look off it’s you- you’re gorgeous!! I want to see every decade- honestly that lip should make a return- it’s so sassy!
This series idea is genius! I love seeing what was considered "beautiful" throughout the century.
It's actually very pretty and I'd love to see a modern take on this. The lips look amazing 😍
I'm not mad at those brows. If I were going to a 20's themed party I would totally rock this look and not feel weird at all. It's all about context. I'd love to see a tutorial on how to do Princess Grace Kelly's makeup.
You’re personality is everything babe! When you read the double chin part and paused :” I feel attacked👀” lol I love that you were able to find your voice and your own safe place in this industry because everything you’re standing for is needed 👏🏾
I would LOVE a series like this! Makeup history sounds so cool and I really like how it turned out!
I love this soooo much!!! Yes yes yes to a series and also maybe a part two modernizing the ideas from each decade. I would totally rock this look with a beautiful beaded drop waist dress and long strands of pearls
This looks absolutely amazing, I looove 20's makeup, it's so dramatic, heavy and artistic
Her face when Erin said no highlighter 13:26. 😂
But honestly the overall look was snatched, love it 💕
So cool! We recently did 20s makeup at the course I'm attending to become a makeup artist. You're my biggest inspiration Nikkie. Love you so much. Much love from Norway's most devoted GlowBaby ❤️❤️🌹

This combining your eyeshadow and eye color makes SO MUCH SENSE, I love it!
I'd love to see a "modern" version of this! Following the same guidelines but using modern products and tweaking things a little here and there.
I’m obsessed with this look! I really like the exaggerated Cupid’s bow. Very antiek. Fabulous ❤️

OMG Nikki, you nailed the roaring 20's look!!! Please do more of these Antiek series!! Im allll here for them!! You are sooo beautiful no matter what you do!! 💜💜💜💜
That blush is wild, but this whole look is a total serve! I love this so much.
You really nailed the look. And its true if you were around back then, you’ll have a long cue of guys just waiting to profess undying love for you .
You are always adorable on every look. Thank you for being and staying beautiful.
Love this I hope the under eye blush comes back
I do it all the time!
You don't have to wait for anything to come back just do your makeup how you like it
it already exists in the Korean beauty world.. just lighter, Not dark as in the video tho😂 they do pink to red to peachy blushes under the eyes. You search about it and do as them because everyone in Korea o love kdrama or kpop already doing it all over the world.
