    I am so happy with your lessons, I am a beginning painter. And I, as many others grew up with bob ross, and that was the reason for my picking oil as my beginning medium. I love following your lessons, you're easy to understand, pleasant, you don't speed it up, nor do you skip ahead from the beginning of one step to the beginning of the next. You also describe the steps and/or methods in detail. The brushes, colors and type of paint is covered and how you prepared the canvas before-hand is described in detail as well. I almost always can literally paint with you, very seldom do I need to pause for a few mins at every step to catch up to you. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for making oil painting a lot less scary and a lot more fun and relaxing. Because to quote bob ross "if painting does anything, it should always make you happy". And now, following your lessons, it truly does make me very happy/excited to sit and paint with you, and have a beautiful painting thank you!!!!

    I like your style of Instructing; you don't go too fast and point out techniques and the colors you use, but you don't rant on about things unrelated causing distraction. So relaxing. As a beginner, I appreciate this, although I will paint this in Acrylic. I also found it helpful how you break the painting down into three or four parts.

    I love how much information you give in this video. With the types of brushes you use and the canvas style. I never thought of changing my background color to improve my painting. I always just leave it white or black. But I'll give it a try! Thanks for the tips!

    I've made this comment to you a number of times now, but you could TOTALLY have another channel and do ASMR. You have such a great voice for it when you whisper or do very soft speaking. You were actually my first experience on UA-cam with ASMR and you weren't even trying to be. I believe they call it "unintentional ASMR" :)

    Hello Jason! I have thoroughly enjoyed your work and progress for a long time now and I too am a big fan of the surrealism of the Alexander/Ross (and many others) wet on wet techniques. I am seriously considering to paint this but I am also considering a few changes in the foreground light/shadow/details. I am wondering if you have left this painting the way it is or have you revisited it and made any changes off camera? If you have personally revisited and adjusted it (or even thought about it) I would appreciate seeing it and knowing the reasons why you made any further changes.
    I would like to know if you think any changes would enhance or detract from the original compositional focal point of the pathway journey and the play of light and shadow upon it.

    I love that!!! My question is...... when you use water based oil paints and you add linseed oil can you still wash brushes out with water or what? Thanks, love to watch you!!!!

    • @JasonBowen
      @JasonBowen  8 років тому

      yes I use artisan linseed oil too which is also water mixable. glad you enjoy my videos :)

    • @richiejourney1840
      @richiejourney1840 6 років тому

      Roya Elerick only if you use the Artisan products. The Artisan products are compatible to use with regular oils and their products but you must then also use a thinner once you mix the products.

    Can this be done in acrilics by using a slow dry medium?

  • @AmberWaves444
    @AmberWaves444 8 років тому

    Great work Jason. May I ask how long will this take to dry? Looks like a lot of paint. Thanks!

    • @JasonBowen
      @JasonBowen  8 років тому

      about a week to be touch dry.

  • @christynelsonmarsh
    @christynelsonmarsh 7 років тому

    Jason I've noticed that you cover some of your canvases with acrylic paint before you apply the water mixable oils. When I've tried that in the past on stretched canvases they always develop a crackle effect in a week or so. What's your secret to make that not happen?

    • @JasonBowen
      @JasonBowen  7 років тому

      I would say to prevent that, leave your acrylic base to dry for 24 hours before painting on it. Or use a hair dryer to really dry out the acrylic.... :)

    • @christynelsonmarsh
      @christynelsonmarsh 7 років тому

      Thank you Jason. The acrylic paint had been drying for months because they were old paintings of mine. I think perhaps the acrylic paint was way too thick to paint over...now that I think about it. I'll have to try just a thin coat of burnt umber like you do. Thx again. :)
