I have this motor and I can only get water flow if the motor is in forward gear, any thoughts on why that is? I have replaced the water pump per your other video.
I need the video for removing the lower unit. I searched youtube but it brought me here. I'm looking at a '68- 3.9 but the seller says it needs impeller

I have a 68" 3.9 and the bottom of the water pump and water pump wont budge The copper tube and grommet are loose. I tried needle nose vice grips and a small pry tool no go I'd really not break it any tips?
Hi James I need help setting the point timing on a 1968 Mercury Model 3900 3.9 hp outboard Ifound the gap info at .020 but where is the throttle position what all is their to setting the point timing Please help.

Is it a powerhead removal like the small Johnson/ Evinrude? Thank you

Update I used a dremel to cut through the bronze and the impeller fell out replaced impeller and pumps water and runs perfect
