Punk isn't about what label you're signed to, or how many people bought your records. It's an attitude. If you have a punk attitude, and put it into your music, then you have punk music. And I would say Rancid most definitely qualifies.

Personally, I myself think it's good they got some publicity. More people means more money, which means a greater chance they'll play more.
