I don't know if Vanessa mentioned it, but I LOVE the subjunctive expressions in English. Because of my native language is Spanish, and we use that mood a lot of times. The classic "If I were ....." is famous in this context. And it might be really tricky for both native and non-native English speaker, but I think the subjunctive is subtle and beautiful. A poetry.

When I started this membership, my English was so bad, I couldn’t speak and I was stuck. I tried to open my mouth and speak but I couldn’t because I was shy and nervous…. After studying and following the plan, I started gaining confidence fast. I started to sound more natural and I was not shy anymore. There are so many UA-cam videos urging ESL students to speak like a native. This seems the ultimate goal for the student who is learning English as a second language. The problem with this advice is that native speakers often flout the rules of conventional English grammar. I'm not talking about natives that for some reason or other haven't had access to a good solid college education. I am referring to people who host political programs on nationwide programs such as "Face the Nation," "Meet the Press," or "This Week In Washington." I'm talking about congressmen and senators from various states. I realize that it isn't always easy to decide between perfect grammar and widespread usage by educated speakers. Following grammar rules too strictly may make your speech sound pedantic and unnatural, especially in the use of the subjunctive and conditional modes. I still think that teaching grammar is a desiderata. Keep up the good work!
