    This is brilliant, relevant for people ay any level, and applicable. One of the best online jazz lessons, because it's not a lick; it's a concept you can adopt. Thank you and Peace

    That's actually a great tip. I saw in other lesson, that I need to make some sounds stand out by finishing on them, but I constantly struggle to find them on the fretboard, i keep forgetting where to finish a part of the lick etc. and you made my day so I can noodle in peace and really f e e l the music. Great stuff!

    Hi Ed, I like the video, thanks. Could you clarify your view on which c minor scale works best please ? I think you are using a melodic minor ? But you could play a harmonic minor in order to keep the major third of the G dominant (if my theory is correct of course? 😀)

    • @EdArmGuitar
      @EdArmGuitar  2 роки тому +7

      In this video I use CMaj scale and C natural Minor.
      Of course you could use c melodic minor on G7 but that would give different color.
      Also c harmonic minor works.
      Which one is the best ? It's up to you 🙂 I like all of these scales on G7
      If I had to choose one of these scales.. my choice would be different every day.
      Thanks for your comment
      Not sure if my reply is any good 😊

    Very cool, so you’re almost playing the G super locrian scale over the G7, except no flat 5th… do you have hack like this for a minor 251? Saw your three melodic minor scales video, but is there an easier way to think of soloing over a minor 251 ? With 2 scales?

    can you go into why this is interesting harmonically? like, what's the relation of the minor with the dominant, in this case the C minor scale with the G7 chord?

    • @EdArmGuitar
      @EdArmGuitar  7 років тому +3

      David Leslie Fleming the dominant chord in this case Phrygian dominant and correct name would be Gsus7b9 b13. Imho this is the best way to use Phrygian mode. Not sure if that's answers your question :)

    Can someone please explain why the i minor scale works over the V7?

    • @billdaniel8310
      @billdaniel8310 2 роки тому +1

      Not sure if this is correct but
      C Aeolian scale has the same notes as the G Phrygian scale.
      C Aeolian = C D Eb F G Ab Bb C and G Phrygian = G Ab Bb C D Eb F G
      If you make the A natural then the C Dorian scale = G Aeolian scale

  • @pomod
    @pomod 3 роки тому +2

    Can you do this on any 2 5 1? Basically toggling to aeolian mode for the 5?

    • @EdArmGuitar
      @EdArmGuitar  3 роки тому

      it depends on the situation, if keys player playing Alt 5th chord that would not work. In trio situation where there is no harmony instrument (Guitar, bass, drums) it would work on any 251. Try it on Autumn Leaves there is plenty 2-5 in this tune.

    • @EdArmGuitar

    • @EdArmGuitar
      @EdArmGuitar  4 роки тому +1

      its not Cm scale over Cmaj chord you got it wrong :)
      Cm scale over G7sus b9 b13 , and of course it works if you look at it closely, chord tone are G(1) Ab(b9) Bb(#9) C(4) D(5) Eb(b13) F(7).
      Also, it might not be your favorite sound(chord/scale relationship) but the theory behind it is really logical and simple.

  • @dickgraysun

    • @EdArmGuitar
      @EdArmGuitar  Рік тому +1

      If you take, for example scale, C Major, you could find all the chords that come from that scale C d e f g a b.
      C maj c e g
      D min d f a
      E min e g b
      Etc.
      So that C maj scale potentially can fit all these chords. But tune has to be in c major.
      There are more to it but this simple explanation came to my head first :)
