The layout of this camera is near identical to my old Canon XC10 'bridge' camera which back in the day was pushing up to $3K. One thing I learned (the hard way) was do not think a shower of rain won't affect Canon cameras.I found out repair shops wouldn't even take on a repair of my camera. It's cheaper to bin it and buy a new one. A small G search will tell of many stories of how rain causes trouble. None of Canons lens or cameras are weatherproof. They have some weather sealing. Canon recommends a rain fly and does not warranty water damage. So be warned by my losses. My simple advice from 40 years experience is if your shooting outdoors invest in a camera system that's at least waterproof / splash resistant.
I greatly enjoyed this video! It was a good combination of excellent lineside footage, personable vlogs presentation and the review of the canon R50 all made for enjoyable viewing!
Awesome video an those photos were terrific in black n White an comparing them to colour. An it was interesting seeing inside the Ballarat East Bluestone sheds
@WillJamesRailways Jolly good show matey 🙂😎 That R Class locomotive does indeed look rather nice. Enjoyed this video thoroughly. Keep up the awesome work mate 👍
Will well done yet again on this video , full of info on everything on trains. Nothing beat the sound and black smoke of R class going up Ingliston Bank.
Will, great train chase, even though I love the sound of an EMD, the sound of steam is magnificent. Some great shots, and that Canon R50 looks like a great piece of kit, and took some great photos, and great 4K movies. Thank you for sharing, cheers, and stay safe, Michael
You will have to remember the R50 has a crop of 1.6 so an 18mm will become 28.6mm and the 210 will become 336mm. I use a dslr Canon with a crop of 1.5 so it's lovely to get the extra length on the telly lens. Keep this series going , really enjoyed it, also how about visiting some stations and giving a bit of history and detail. Cheers from the UK
Mr Will a superb video sir ! The subject. The photos. The videos. And the magic ingredient Mr Will's editing ! That last shot of the golden sun's light on the train ! Not to mention the good old Kingswood parked in the right spot lol. Where you morphed the drone footage into the ground footage that was pretty smick too. The bridge shot was cool. Have you thought of doing some slow motion footage ? And your handsome self in the video sir and its one superb video !
Very nice video Will, the photos were great, and the video production was on point. In regard to wanting feedback, I would suggest making a video about how to do photography with trains. For example, a step-by-step guide on the right settings to use, as I feel this would help new train enthusiasts get a head start on capturing our beautiful pieces of history on the rails.
honestly, I love the concept of more photography-centric vids, especially on train chases and what not. Shots came out a treat too, which is always a bonus. If you ever feel up to doing it more, or more in-depth, and have the time, could do some brief comments on the technical setup of your shots (whether that's composition, or camera), would love to see where your considerations are on that sorta technical stuff are. Love the vids, always a joy to hear the passion, keep on keepin' on.
Very enjoyable video with the added section on the camera. Great shots, particularly the second to last one with the train sweeping around the bend, leaning into the superelevation, so dynamic. I agree that we are fortunate in this state. I rode the Tait shuttle to the Flemington train show and back. It was the first time I had been in one for 40 years. It was magical. 😊👍
Nice video Will. Enjoyed the video as always. Doing a chase is always good fun and you got some good shots too. For an entry level camera the Canon R50 is a great bit of kit.
G'day, absolute fantastic videos and photos, that Cannon Camera 📸📸📷 works a treat, but it's the person who behind that makes it that way, great day for an adventure, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Great video Will. A question on the Canon R50: while it can do videos and the 4K video shots looked good, would you rate it as a good all-round video content creator camera? Or is it more suited to taking stills?
Nothing wrong with that camera! Curious what advantage a full frame sensor would have, if that's the quality you can get from the R50 APS-C. More camera gear content is most welcome.
Higher dynamic range and better lowlight! I think in the next video I’ll show what it looks like at 100% crop as it just doesn’t have the information that full frame has
@@WillJamesRailways Good to know! I'm reaching the limit with my Fuji XE-1; low light is one of those limitations. That and auto focus speed is slowing, fast moving action is hard to capture and it only shoots in 1080p.
19:33 I love the sound of that steam locomotive 😍
You’ve captured a great day! I thoroughly enjoyed your video! I look forward to seeing the next one!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the shot with the old Kingswood in the background. ✌️
Thank you Tony!

Love the plates on the wags hope she’s running well after her operation
Yeah it’s certainly good to have it back!
great video Will, not sure my budget can ssupport a new camera although it seems great too,
Thanks!
For what is an entry level camera, the R50 produces some great coverage, as do you Will!
Bloody good doco of trip to Ballaratt. Still shots from Canon camera very fine 7 not grainy.
Thanks!
Hi James
When are you doing more preservation news
I can barely find the time to produce the videos I am doing, unfortunately it won’t be coming back. Sorry to let everyone down.
Also my name is Will!
Great photos, I would get the R50 but i need to save my money for others things unfortunatly
Lots of other great choices out there!
Great video Will. A question on the Canon R50: while it can do videos and the 4K video shots looked good, would you rate it as a good all-round video content creator camera? Or is it more suited to taking stills?
I’d say it’s great as a beginner all-rounder! Certainly is more set up for photos but very capable of video!
I'm curious how the photos looked prior to editing? Any chance we can saw the raw shots?
Something I can add to the next video! Thanks for the feedback!
