I love Betty's dry sense of humour-- "Don't bother me now, I'm at LeMans you understand-- if I miss this next turn I'll just hate myself" haha! She really made this series come alive, and boy could she deliver a line....
This episode of Rod and Betty was the mirror image of then from season one, episode one when she and Rod were riding in his car just before Rod saw his father and Betty’s mother kissing, which turned both their world upside down. They were so happy then, and now just as happy now. It’s nice to watch.
I think it's his looks, soft voice and nice smile which covers what is underneath, not so attractive, Anjelica Huston describes in her book well relationship with him
Enough? Steven did pursue Adrienne. He wanted her, and just because he didn't actually make love to her, he did enough to cause Betty to doubt him. It's not just that though. His desire to destroy Martin Peyton overrules everything, even his marriage. He should have taken Betty's suggestions that they leave Peyton Place.
Betty seems like a desperate woman, because ever since Ron dumped her, in the beginning, for a stupid reason seeing his dad, kiss her mom, she's been trying to wiggle herself back into his arms. No way would I look his way again, for breaking my heart, on a lark, to get broken again. Betty had nothing to do with them kissing, yet he punished her. No, that little boy would be out my life. Steven is a very fine man, and him and Betty seem like a perfect match.✌
@@c.calliecoleman1531 No, Betty had nothing to do with Les and Julie kissing, but don't forget Betty tricked Rod into marriage by not telling him she lost the baby. That's worse than him breaking up with her earlier. As far as Steven being a very fine man, I disagree. He has mistreated her almost from the beginning. He wrongly accused her of having an affair with Rod; he used her as a spy in the Peyton house; he believed a false report on Betty's activities while in New York without even giving her a chance to explain before he humiliated her in front of the Lt. Governor and Peyton Place elite; he refused Betty's numerous requests to leave that house for the sake of their marriage; he forced her to go along with his plan to have Martin Peyton declared incompetent; he put his obsession to destroy Martin Peyton and get Peyton's money above everything; finally, he got involved with another woman. When you add all that up, Betty put up with a lot from Steven and stayed with him far longer, in my opinion, than she should have.
Did I say? Betty goes with the flow maybe Rodney will come along, she really never loved Steven, Rod pushed her away to Marry him and she did, now he pulls her closer and she moves that way, It's all as Rodney feels and he is the one she loves so …...
Betty must have fooled Steven and herself that she was not still in love with Rod. Before the divorce she is in his arms. To compare Rod to Steven. Rod is still an adolescent kissing girls and Steven is a professional man who made one mistake.
He not only pursued Adrienne, he put his hatred of Martin Peyton and his desire to destroy him above his marriage. Betty begged him numerous times to leave that house, but he refuses time after time. He has tunnel vision and Betty tired of being second place.
Yes, as he revealed in that scene with Elliott his bitterness consumes him. Early in the relationship with Betty he acted like she was an object to win. He softened as their relationship progressed, but he never lost that insecurity and "me against the world" attitude.
Steven is also a reminder of Peyton's failure as a father to Catherine. He was busy with his business and allowed his daughter to grow up spoiled and getting whatever she wanted; a trait she carried on until her death.
What???? Betty is already in arms of Rod? I thought she was in deep trauma hearing about her darling husband's confession kissing Adrienne. Steven you don't deserve Betty she is one fickle minded women fit to be with man like dumping yard vendor Rod period!!!!
LOL! Steven screwed up many times before he became involved with Adrienne. It wasn't until Betty left that she could look back and see how badly Steven treated her from the very beginning. No, Steven doesn't deserve Betty.
Seems that Steven, who continues to come-off as a whiny, petulant little school-boy, maintains his law office, not to pursue his career, which no longer appears to hold much attraction for him, but simply to partake of windows conveniently placed for spying on Betty & Rod's every move in Peyton Place's town square! Rita has very legitimate concerns. Eveyone telling her that eveything regarding herself, her baby, Norman''s laying of heavy stress-trips on her, their tottering marriage, financial troubles, etc. will be just fine---wait & see----ring hollow. Perhaps that kind of friends & family optimism was common in the 60's but it seems very trite & unrealistic viewed in today's light.
If Stephen and Rodney could merge into one man, Betty would have the perfect match. Rodney would be hard on her more devious side and she would have to pretend with him. Stephen would cherish that side of her until she is as self loathing as him and twice as self serving.

Rodney does his best work on boats

And speaking driving, it is so clearly obvious: "Oh, did Betty have the curves -- and in JUST the right places!"

No matter what movie O'Neal plays, all romantic scenes he makes superb, real leading man, only in movies, sure not in life
democolor42 Ryan must've had a big libido......or a "big" part of his anatomy;....that women couldn't find irrestibie. ;-)

Everyytime I hear that theme music for Rodney I can't help but remember Allison in the car with him too.
Seems like Betty's quick to burn her bridges. She couldn't have loved Stephen enough

@@suki44883 True. You sure right about all that, and all that sure outweighs, what Betty has done. Thanks
Betty did love Stephen when she married him. She told her mother that. Betty wanted the high life.
"188 tachometers" haha! And Rod doesn't correct her-- he probably doesn't know either, an overnight mechanic.

Is Barbra Parkins a good actress I’m always takin with her beauty. I can’t I can’t objective.
Yes, she's a very good actress.
Yes, very natural.
Watch Vally of the Dolls. She's Superb!❤
Frank Sinatra- Strangers in the Night.
Steven will become a bitter, lonely man
Why does Peyton hate Steven so much?
.....he's the last living reminder of his daughters promiscuity, a stain on the Peyton name. He wants Stephen out of the picture,
Steven is also a reminder of Peyton's failure as a father to Catherine. He was busy with his business and allowed his daughter to grow up spoiled and getting whatever she wanted; a trait she carried on until her death.

Why is she hanging around with Rodney?
