    You can avoid the blackening of your pots just by coating the outside with a small amount of liquid dish soap before you cook with it. The black easily washes off when you are done.

    Way back when I was in Girl Scouts we wiped liquid dishwashing detergent on the bottom of our pots and pans to keep the soot from sticking to the pan. This was back in the late ‘50’s/early ‘60’s. We have a small percolating drip coffee pot at home that has come in handy without electricity. We also made a “Buddy burner”. made from a tall Hawaiian Punch can with one end removed. You use an old fashioned can opener.( the part to punch triangular pour holes to cut four holes along the bottom edge and three holes on the opposite top side where the lid is still attached. You use an empty tuna can with rolled up corrugated cardboard inside of it covered with melted parafin for your fire. We cooked a sausage paddy on the Buddy burner first, then an egg.

    🌷Living in North Pole Alaska here, my house kitchen is my grid down kitchen. When I moved in here 40 some odd years ago. The power would go off for a Month at a time so when I remodeled the all electric house and kitchen, I Installed a propane cook stove and a wood stove to heat the house. I just need a bug out stove. 🏡😊

    Just a note.
    For the Suite on the pan. When you do the alcohol or a campfire , to make it EASY to CLEAN UP!
    COAT the OUT SIDE of the pan with SOAP.
    Recommend, bar bath soap. Suggest Unscented (like ivory).
    To your comment about no flame adjustment. Just raise up, or lower the pan or rack.

    • @ChefPrepper
      @ChefPrepper  9 місяців тому +2

      Thank you for the info about the soap.
      Raising and lowering will adjust the heat, just hard to do after you start cooking, but can be done.

    Thank you for the video. For alcohol I use denatured alcohol or go to the liquor store and buy Everclear 190 proof, they both burn hot and clean and with Everclear you can also use it as an antiseptic and for a cocktail to knock the edge off of a life and death day of survival and as a pain killer in a emergency.

    I learned a lot of these things back in 2021 but when you live in a city and dont use that knowledge, its easy to forget. I actually bought that Stanley coffee press but may have forgotten how to use it. We had tornados come through Omaha a couple of days ago. 40,000 have been without power for 2 days already. This is a GREAT REMINDER on how to keep cooking and surviving ❤

    Good informative video. I noticed your individual instant coffee packets. These are quite expensive. As a diabetic I accumulate a lot of test strip canisters, which are very sturdy and watertight. Three grams of Folgers instant in one of those canisters makes a great cup of coffee at a huge savings over the store bought packets.

    Why do more campers not use the alcohol tuna can stove? What about Co carbon Monoxide compared to other fuels?

    • @ChefPrepper
      @ChefPrepper  5 місяців тому

      I think a lot of people use alcohol, they just usually use a commercially made alcohol stove like the Trangia or something similar.
      Those type of stoves are a little safer to use, especially if you are not on a good solid, flat surface. But DIY stoves like these can come in very handy in emergencies.
      I haven't ever measured any Carbon Monoxide from alcohol fuels. But still you should have a Carbon Monoxide Detector if using any alternative fuels indoors.

    I love this idea! The only thing that concerns me is that I have coil stoves so I wouldn't know where I could put it that it wouldn't overheat the surface that covers the coils.
    Also, I heard somewhere else about cutting cardboard into strip about the same width as whatever tuna or chicken can you're going to use and then pour wax in there as fuel. Would that not last longer?

  • @BeautyForAshesJoyForMourning
    @BeautyForAshesJoyForMourning 5 місяців тому +1

    This may be a silly question, but have you ever boiled dry beans on this? I see so many talking about storing dry beans but if you don't have power how would you fully cook them? They take 3 hours to cook, over an hour if you soak them overnight.

    • @ChefPrepper
      @ChefPrepper  5 місяців тому

      No, I don't think these type of stoves would be a good choice for cooking dry beans. I suppose it could be done, but would take a lot of fuel.
      Would probably be better to use commercial stove (butane or propane) and use a pressure cooker. Or, use canned beans.

    I woukd stay away from the dollar tree or one like it grate/rack. Those things are too flimsy to mess with for hot liquids.
    Look for a more heavy duty one thats harder to bend.
    Or else maybe double up the cheap bendy one.
    Plus for those that dont know it. You wantt to keep those unopen cans away from the heat. They can ex.
    Plowed (spelled wrong on purpose) . But usually take a lot of heat. Back as kid we thru a few in a campfire for science of course. And they bust and jump and open real nice in a campfire.
