As an overseas person, I have never heard anyone describe Singapore this way. At first I thought it was something to do with prawn fishing that I see on Singaporean shows.
Honestly id take that as a compliment, like, they are improving the parts of themselves that they can improve, because face beauty is a genetics lotery, some ppl are blessed and others ugly, but body, that really depends on lifestyle, so if they all ripped and going to the gym, it shows commitment to do better in the areas that they can control. (Yes i know plastic surgery is a thing, but its expensive and not everybody wants to do that)
While education is heavily emphasized in countries like Japan and Korea, they also treat the same with the entertainment industry which is not the case for Singapore. No anime, no kpop/jpop, none. So we don't face such superficial pressures as those two asian countries.
Because there’s some stereotypes going around in every region in the world, in Asia predominantly the “idol” stereotype. But remember everyone: faces are never ugly nor beautiful, minds are. 😁

Secondly, the guy is posing 100% of the time. I know these kind of guys too well. When shiy hits the fan, any problem arises and they are put in an uncomfortable situation, even if it’s reasonably uncomfortable, the guy will preserve his looks and reputation the most and walk away, making it about being independent rather than being a good friend, or human to others. This interview only had one agenda, to “attract” young and dumb people to believe that they have depth when it comes to fashion. Notice how none of them answered to short men, weather & fashion issues, nor provided any depth to answering these questions they raised.
