  • Think you can't afford to travel the world? Well I have 20 ways for you to see the world without spending a penny (mostly).
    Couchsurfing: www.couchsurfing.org
    WWOOFING: wwoofinternational.org
    Work away: www.workaway.info
    #1: Couchsurfing
Couchsuring is an awesome way to connect with locals and get a bed/sofa for free! We can all appreciate a free bed for a night! Check out 10 Reasons Why You Should Try CouchSurfing!
    #2: WOOFING
WOOFING is a great way to get to know a country and it’s culture by working a few hours a day in return for bed and board. Mainly set out on rural properties this is a very popular option for backpackers looking to save money!
    #3: Homestay/Work Away
Similar to WOOFING, you do a few hours work in return for accommodation. Whether you are just helping around the house or assisting with your hosts business, you get your accommodation for free!
    #4: House Sitting
Lots of people hate to leave their home unoccupied whilst they go away on holiday or for business. So, they like to have someone trustworthy to look after their place and maybe even ask for you to feed their pets! Completely free and you can find some pretty incredible places to look after!
    #5: Volunteer abroad
There are a lot of volunteer options however most like to charge you to do it! Do plenty of research or contact an organisation directly to see if you can help them out in return for bed and board!
    #6: Dumpster Diving
Hate how shopping centres throw away tonnes of perfectly edible food at the end of each day? Why not grab it for yourself! Just be aware that this is illegal in some countries so check before you dive on in!
    #7: Hitchhiking
Seen by a lot of people to be dangerous, hitchhiking is a popular option for many travellers who want to travel long distances without spending a lot of money.
    #8: Work for Accommodation
Lots of hostels especially in Australia offer a work exchange! Normally the hours are long and you will either be working the reception or cleaning toilets, however, as accommodation is your largest expense, it will save you a small fortune!
    #9: Free Food Bins
Most hostels have big boxes situated in the kitchen area where backpackers can drop any unwanted food items before they check out.
    #10: Camping
Want to be one with nature? Camping is a great option and sometimes can be completely free!
    #11: Exchange your skills
Can you cut hair? Make bracelets? Do henna? Why not exchange these skills for a couple of bucks in your hostel or even a free drink? Great way to meet people, have fun and make a few extra bucks!
#12: Work in a travel relate industry
This is the big one. If you want to settle into a career and travel at the same time then there are a lot of options available to you! Why not work as a travel agent? A tour rep? Lots of careers will require you to move about and normally the company will cover all your costs!
    #13: Walk or Cycle
The cost of transportation will significantly dent your bank balance, so why not opt to walk instead of taking the bus or hailing a taxi? Keeps you fit and is nicer on your budget! Why not challenge yourself to a big cycle cross-country?
    #14: Frequent flyer points
It may take a bit of time but signing up to a programme will pay off in the end when you can get yourself a cheeky ticket to somewhere tropical for nothing!
    #15: Car sharing
Check out local listing websites to see if any fellow travellers or even locals are looking for another person. Sometimes they like you to split the costs but sometimes they just want some company! You can travel a lot of miles and makes some awesome friends!
    #16: Car moving
Car hire companies are always looking for people to relocate their cars. When someone hires a car in Melbourne and drops it in Sydney, they need someone to drive it back! M
#17: Work on a boat or cruise ship
Sure the hours are painfully long but being out at sea means you can barely spend a cent of your earnings. Travel the world, get paid, work hard and then you will have a load of money to go and play with!
    #18: Visit Free Attractions!
Fill your days with free attractions such as national parks, free art galleries, local museums and historical monuments!
    #19: Travel blogging
Granted, it takes years to build a blog up and even then there is no guarantee it will cover all of your expenses but if you have the determination and vision to make this a reality, the rewards are incredible!
#20: Enjoy the simple pleasures in life

I am 42 years old, I have spent most of my life travelling and working around the world. To date, I have been to 122 countries and lived in 14. I have always wanted to do a travel vlog but feel like I am too late since there are so many people doing it. I am a big procrastinator too. I would recommend all of your above tips as I have done most of them. Great video.

@Khalid Bouchajra Hi! That person commented 7 years ago so I don’t think they’ll respond 😅 But look, you can look up your job skills and find a job in the USA that relates to them, & they can fly you out on a temporary visa I think. Go to the official website and see your options.

As an avid hitchhiker who has travelled across Europe and America by that means alone, I can say that it is possibly the greatest money saver as well as opener to experiences when it comes to travel. It is an ultimate freedom. But it CAN be dangerous for women in particular. I've probably been in over 200 strangers cars, and 2 of those were bad experiences. So whilst the odds of having a negative experience is REALLY low, all it takes is 1 dangerous experience to put an end to everything. Fortunately my 2 weren't THAT bad and I was able to weasel out of the car, but they could've easily taken a turn for the worse.
It's safer than people think, but I wouldn't advise it either, just share my experience.
Some tips if you are adamant on trying hitchhiking:
Dress boyish, if you're a girl. Even go as far as to fool oncoming cars into thinking you're male. It'll be harder to get rides but at least you know that none of those cars are pulling over with bad (sexual) intention.
Always be talkative and confident in a car. Confidence is key. Don't victimise yourself.
Give oncoming cars loads of space to both see you and to stop. It can make the biggest difference.
Never hitchhike at night or in late evening.
Always keep your bag at arms distance incase you have to make a break for it.
Always carry valuables on your person rather than your bag. Also, a knife.
If someone pulls up to you and you don't like the look of them, don't feel like you should get in. Ask them for directions instead. They'll be pissed that you made them stop but at least you won't be in a confined space with them.

+Sof Corts yeah even though i don't even know you I'd rather you didn't do it this way, same with any girl here esp considering traveling or hitchhiking alone. Doing it with someone they've talked to online for ex like me after getting to know them enough is A LOT better and safer in comparison.

as a young man I feel very safe travelling alone but for women its different, did u exchange sexual favours for a ride or a some reward? not safe for women at all

    For travelling :
    1. Live in a country with high minimum wage
    2. Live in a country with a decent passport
    3. Save some money and you are good to go.
Other wise you will face visa situation and you will need prepare tons of documents to get visa for every single country you wish to visit, and your savings won't be enough if you are middle class or poor, it will be impossible to travel frequently. Maybe once a year if you are hard working.

Another tip would be Error Fares. Sometimes airlines send out false fares because somebody made a mistake and you can get international flights for next to nothing. These fares are taken out very quickly but if you are quick and a bit lucky you can get the cheapest flights possible. There are a lot of communities that look up error fares and post them. Just be flexible and quick. The best thing? You still get all the miles and perks as if you bought a full priced ticket

We worked six Hours a day and we had two days off per week, so we had a lot of spare time to go trekking and hiking (the landscape was breathtaking).

Honestly, I don't think anyone should do hitchhiking, especially not if you are a woman. It's crazy dangerous.. Even if you think you found a nice couple that seem harmless...

    • @hideyable
      @hideyable 7 років тому +14

Agreed. Tourists are rarely killed in this country but the few occasions I can think of are people hitchhiking. Buses are inexpensive - why risk your life for the sake of $20?

    • @Joepvn
      @Joepvn 7 років тому +19

Because hitchhiking makes going from A to B much more than sitting around. It allows you to meet amazing people. It can take you places a bus can't, and it's often much more flexible, as people are willing to take you much further than you bargained for. Also, 20$ as you put it is easily a week worth of food. When travelling low cost, you can't just spend 20$ to get somewhere, much less so if you are not enjoying the ride.

    • @adminsucks8806
      @adminsucks8806 7 років тому +22

but can cost you your life too

    • @deslyoness1174
      @deslyoness1174 7 років тому +4

my mum hitch hiked through Europe when she was in her twenties all alone and she was fine. Especially as a woman statistically speaking the most dangerous place is your home... so I'm just gonna leave that here

    • @adminsucks8806
      @adminsucks8806 7 років тому +7

des Lyoness let me see, so if you say your home which mean it's my home and yours too, imply that every women's home indicate that anywhere where is "your home" is dangerous that should basically state the danger is everywhere. So that means, don't ever hitchhike even if your mum does it safely, people nowadays become a lot smarter and can make you go poof! with no traces of you at all and no one will ever know where you are.

I did AmeriCorps for internships for two years (I had a monthly living stipend) and received education awards on top of that. I was able to use them toward a class in India (which you can see old videos from) and then I volunteered for another organization and was able to get a sponsorship since I had volunteered for several years with them. Also, I added a residency and teaching onto that so I was able to stay longer in Brazil.

So sad to be born in a country where you need visa to go anywhere. I love to travel, see things , meet new people , culture, food, so many things to see in this world but its really heartbreaking to think that why we cant travel everywhere in the world without them strict procedures of preparing documents, paying soo much money having to show too much bank balance and its not even sure you gonna get visa after that. Why so discrimination. After all, this is also our world. 😢😢😢😔😔😔. In my next life i want to be born as American.

During my motorcycle travel I met a lot of cyclist who cycle all around the world; from South-East Asia to Europe, around Africa, etc. It takes them multiple years. They mostly wild camp and sleep in their tent. They often live for around 10US dollar a day, some even for around 5 dollars. Normal daily cost is only for food. Sometimes they sleep in hostels when in cities. Depending on the country they have to pay for visa, sometimes a bit for bike repair, a travel insurance, and that’s about it. If you work hard for one year in a high wage country like Switzerland or Norway and live low budget while there, you can save up about 10k to 20k euro in a year. With this money you can cycle around the world for about 3 to 6 years. I hope this information is useful to someone.

I'm currently traveling around Africa on a budget of $6 a day maximum on a bicycle.
That $6 covers everything including visas. I simply keep my food budget at under $4 a day ($120 monthly). My bike is dirt cheap MTB and I spend less than $10 a month to maintain it.
In cities I try to get couchsurfing host. And I sleep in my tent elsewhere all the time. If I get occasional lodge I always find something for under $4 a night and I could do that twice a month.
Roughly I can easily live on $150 a month and the remaining cash is for visas.. but I try to get visas that last 3-6 months so that I can live longer thete without leaving the country that would stress me to pay for another Visa.
I love your comment because it talks about me😊

What I loved was free walking tours, which are not technically free, but they usually understand that you are broke student etc so that you give them like 5-10 bucks and it´s ok (cos they get plenty asian tourists giving them a lot of money every tour anyway). They were in many European countries and I did them even in Australia (although, I think they only got these in Sydney and Melbourne). Great thing to start exploring the new place. :)

hitchhiking is the best way to get around, you are very flexible because you can always look for a lift spontaneously and don't have to plan it, then you don't pay any money AND meet awesome locals
before my England trip this year I'd never thought it would work so well!!! I can just recommend it!

Anna Luisa ya if you wanna be raped or murdered. Doesn't matter where you are, predators look for hitchhikers. Easiest target ever. Nobody knows who they're with, where they're exactly going, typically don't know their way around so don't know they're not going the right way, etc. srsly dumbest idea ever. Killers targeted hitchikers in the 60s and 70s when it was big and it's just gotten worse. Check out the highway of tears. Truckers are esp a known demo. Many who are predators go into trucking for such easy access to vics and it bein so hard to catch them.

Jonathan Raupp use your common sense, make sure they're a real person and if they give you a bad vibe then don't be afraid to say no. Meet them in public first before staying with the and hang out for a while to make sure you like them and they're not a creep. And always always have a back up plan. Have a spare host or look up nearby hostels before you go just in case the house goes on fire or something.

I'm 13 and stuck in this house. I wanna grow up sooo bad but the same time I don't since duh responsibilities but I want to have a nice house with so I can decorate and buy things instead of waiting around for someone to do it for me I just want to make my own decisions and travel the world taking videos and inspiring people like me. Sometimes I sneak out and walk 2 miles to just hang out at the dried up creek. I try to bring my friends along but they say their scared to get Kidnapped and that it's to cold or hot so they rather go inside and call me weird for always trying to be outside but when I'm inside there's a burning feeling that just tells me to run outside and take in the scenery and don't get me started when I feel the wind in my face it feels so peaceful idk what to do I just wanna run away jump on a plane and go to china or Vietnam and help people idk and I can't relate to anyone I feel lost why am I even writing this any advice idk what to do I'm just L O S T

felicia guffey I totally understand how you feel because I felt the exact same way when I was your age (which makes me sound old but I'm only 16). I know having freedom and having your own place to decorate however you want it sounds very great, and trust me, I'm excited for it too. But please remember that it's so important to live in the moment. You're only young once and you really don't wanna waste that time thinking about the future. Instead of doing that, think about how you can make your current situation better. Make sure the life you're living right now makes you forget about those thoughts about the future. Here you have my novel😂 hope you can take something from it!

One time my flight got overbooked (at emirates in Dubai), so me and my friends volunteered to stay another day. We got to stay in a five star hotel for a night for free, and we got a free extra plane ticket to Dubai to use another time. So basically we got a free second trip and it was awesome. So make sure that you are flexible when it comes to planes, because airlines will offer some great gifts sometimes

If you live in the EU (or one of their partner countries like switzerland, turkey, iceland....) you can do the EVS, short for European Voluntary Service. You get to be a volunteer, you get a place to live (host family, flat with other volunteers, depends on the organization you volunteer for), you get food and even most of your travelling costs like the flight are PAID by the EU. PLUS you get a small loan, depending on the country you work in (around 100€ per month). It's long-term tho. So you should plan on staying abroad for at least 3 months, most organizations want you to stay for 8 months. And the kind of work is really, really different. Could be anything from working at a daycare, helping in an office or working with animals at a farm. Just google EVS and start your adventure. You need to plan ahead tho. If I wanted to go this summer I should've started to contact organisations in november.

I'm sorry for the negative comments on here. I think you're incredibly brave, knowledgeable, humble and motivational. These tips are awesome, practical, and ones that I've used before when I want to extend my travel with little funds. Anyone who thinks you've got this far because of your looks are simply ignorant, fear driven, envious individuals. You manifest/receive things because you're a go-getter and you take chances. You follow your passion for travel and the universe rewards you for it. End of story. Well done Aly.

I'd like a video about becoming a travel blogger. This is the first video of yours I've seen. :) I have a good tips for traveling for free in the US. Going to music festivals or rainbow gatherings. You can always find rides to wherever you want. Also I've never done this because I've always had at least enough money for gas but I know people who do a thing called gas jugging. They bring a gas jug with them everywhere and park at a gas station, and then ask people getting gas if they mind giving a little gas. Even just a couple bucks.
Now I grew up with Scottish parents, so I could never ever swallow enough pride to straight do that. But ya know what ever floats your boat. If your brave enough to do that, good for you. I've had friends not spend a dime and get from New York to California hitting up tons of music festivals sneaking in and just getting free gas. They also dumpster dive (that I absolutely have done because it's absurd the amount of perfectly good food that's thrown out in america) and busk.

Another idea to save some money is sleeping at the airport the day before your flight. Many airports have this special areas to rest where you can get a kind of pillow or something and you can charge your phone etc. for free or sometimes for a few dollars. I did that a couple of times to save one night of accommodation!!

I'm stoked to admit that I've done most of these. I have gotten a ridiculous number of kms out of hitchhiking, but I admit it's not for everyone. Islands such as Haida Gwaii and Newfoundland, as well as New Zealand are very safe places to hitch though. Delivering vehicles is called 'drive-away delivery' - a great way to get around. There's also train hopping, a fascinating way to see the world that I have not yet tried.
