Beautiful! I travelled Italy in the late 1970's solo with a backpack. This movie and this music brings it all back to me in shedloads! (Tears of joy & love!) Thankyou so much Pat!
This song is pure nostalgia. It reminds me of my daughter running happily across the schoolyard when she was just 6 years old. And today she is 14 years old. Every time I hear this song I remember it. Thank you Pat.
I have seen many many brilliant artists and bands perform live in either small venues or massive sold out stadiums. Seeing Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden performing the entire Beyond The Missouri Sky in a small congress hall in Zurich in 2002 has to be for me one of the best performances I’ve attended. The music spoke volumes 💜💜💜
Luminous. Metheny caressing the melody, deep inside the song, with Charlie Haden’s telepathic support. International Burghausen Jazz Week, 2003. Broadcast on Bayerischer Rundfunk.
Ennio Morricone's Cinema Paradiso theme is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that's ever been written and when you put it in the hands of two world class act musicians in Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden, you get an absolute masterpiece.
I think you're totally right! Not only the genius P. Metheny gets to touch us with his tunes, but also C. Haden makes his double bass sounds great and definitely important. Applauses for them!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I actually witnessed the last time Charlie Haden ever appeared onstage at the Healdsburg Jazz Festival shortly before his passing. Also saw Pat Metheny in Cambridge, MA when he was about 18 years old. He was playing with Dave Samuels-Pat Metheny group which preceded Pat’s tenure with Gary Burton. Dave Samuels just passed away on April 23, 2019. Thankfully Pat Metheny is still with us.
To listen Pat Metheny is always a previledge of being alive.. Pat Metheny, to me, is on a elevated level.. In his Music He expresses Love, Highly positive joy, happyness, Pure beauty and deep tender. May the Universe keep him here on Earth for a Very Long Time... I Love Him!
I want him to perform with Tosin Abasi and Javier Reyes from the band animals as leaders. Pat's an older musician favorite and they're younger favorites. Would love to see them side by side.
This music feels like two friends getting together after all the years. The talk between the bass and the guitar is sheer genius. A perfect rendition of rhythm and melody. And of both in beauty.
I was completely unaware that the great Charlie Haden had passed away this summer in LA on July 11th 2014. This is such a loss. The world of music has been shaken this year by the passing of Paco de Lucia in February and more recently of legendary scottish bassist Jack Bruce ( Cream, John McLaughlin, etc.. ) and then today while watching some Pat Metheny videos, I learn that Charlie Haden is gone too and since almost 5 months. Really a sad year for music. RIP Charles Edward Haden !!
Goodness, well this is pretty special for a range of reasons. First, I came to Pat Metheny through his tenure with the great Joni Mitchell and I always liked him from that moment on. I heard a comment about his playing as like wind through trees and I don't think I've ever heard a more awesome description of someone's playing and it's so apt for Pat. Secondly, in a world of look at me look at me you hardly even see Pat's face and that's really great cuz the music is speaking deeply to him (who cares whether he's crowd pleasing, I like that in a way he doesn't care). Thirdly, he's taking on a complete Maestro in Ennio Morricone. You gotta have chops to do that and he pulls it off beautifully. Geez I hope there's a complete concert with this cuz it's stellar. Beautiful job Pat and reminds me of why I loved your playing back in 1979.
at the age of 17, i watched the movie in italian class and it tore my heart out. i was living the same story with a high school sweetheart. that movie and this song fused so many memories and emotions I was experiencing. happy tears.
So many beautiful melodic versions to listen to and all so very special in their ways to remember the fantastic composer Ennio Morricone RIP. Pat Metheny is awsome on the guitar.
poche cose mi fan venire la pelle d'oca un tramonto sul mare un alba in montagna la brezza primaverile in collina sui pascoli mossa dalla brezza di primavera e questo che ascolto !
brings me to tears as it did when I first saw the movie Cinema Paradiso back in the 80's. couldn't understand a word of Italian, but understood the music who (to me) was the storyteller. of course, virtually any of Sr. Ennio Morricone's music scores are simply brilliant - methinks

THANK YOU SO VERY, VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THIS WONDROUS RENDITION BY PAT & CHARLIE OF IL MAESTRO MORRICONE'S LOVE THEME TO G. TORNATORE'S MASTERPIECE "CINEMA PARADISO" FOR ME, SIMPLY THE BEST VERSION OF THIS MOST BEAUTIFUL THEME ARIGATTO
I see why you spelled Pat's last name the way you did, because this is how people spell it in the South. However, because his family's heritage is from the part of Missouri that stays with the North, they've spelled it with an "e", so it's Metheny. I'm pretty sure he appreciates that. No offence.
A month ago, 4/21/16, I went to see Pat Metheny with Ron Carter in Infinity Hall, a tiny theater in northern Connecticut. The same scene as in the video and just as beautiful. To experience both those magnificent artists, minimally amplified, in so close a setting was magnificent.
The more I watch Metheny and the more I listen to him (and musicians he teams up with) the more I feel overwhelmed by the stunning beauty and peace of his music. Wow. He is a symbol. Why o why are people still waiting for the second coming? ;^)

É quase impossível não chorar na cena do filme em que o tema original de Morricone toca. É uma música tremendamente emocionante. Bela versão.
