  • When Jed Mottley was a star player on his high school football team in 1993, his single mom could not afford the varsity jacket that he ordered, which ran about $300. Jed never was able to pick it up at the clothing store. Twenty-eight years later, Jed’s brother Josh was shocked when he stumbled upon the jacket in a thrift store, where it had been donated by the business owner who made them for the school. They believe it’s a message from their mom, who died nine years ago.

Things were domestically made by paid workers then. Clothing was much more expensive. I paid 450 dollars CAD for my grad dress 30 years ago, on sale. But it contained enough material to clothe the Kardashians, their kids and their exes combined.

I totally believe it is a message from his mother. Death is no barrier for a mother's love.
My mama died in 2011 and every now and then, I am convinced she is sending me a message. For instance, when I almost died of anaphylactic cardiogenic shock in 2019 twice, I felt completely calm and completely safe because it felt like my mama was bossing around the nurses and doctors who were working on me. At one point, I vividly remember a nurse calling my blood pressure: "I get 35 systolic... no diastolic." I shouldn't even have been conscious at that point but I confirmed it later with the nurse who said it, it really did happen.
The doctor told me later that one of the things that probably helped me live was that I was so calm that I wasn't wasting any energy on panic. I had no reason to panic because my mama would never let something bad happen to me. And those doctors and nurses had no other option but to succeed because my mama was a force of nature!

Had the same thing happen with wanting one of those varsity jackets but not being able to afford it. Hopefully I'll find one in the future like he did..

How sweeet!! My mom and dad couldn't afford ours either. It was myself and 2 brothers they said ring or jackets, as a mom myself I TOTALLY understand. I love this. Those jackets mean A LOT! We were all high level athletes.

    Woww...$300 for a jacket? 😲
Asking out of curiosity...Is the value of $300 dollar is a big deal in the US today?
Me from other side of the globe personally think it's HUGE, it can cover monthly expenses (food, transport, saving, entertainment)

Yes. That's a crazy amount for a jacket

Ikr? It's like the jacket is made out of threads of gold or something lol. $300 must have cost a fortune 28 years ago. I wonder what the value is like if u convert it with todays money.

Well $300 in 94' would be about $560 today, that does seem a bit expensive for a high school jacket.
