Quick correction: The image for Penthouse is labelled as Cake Batter, which is incorrect. It's Penthouse! Carry on. 😎
I thought maybe he was highlighting that “Cake batter” was the white walls/cabinets included in the image of Penthouse? Maybe.
I'd like you to compare Brandy Cream and Old Country. I'm trying to find a wall colour to work with dark brown engineered wood floors which has peach-red in the grain. The two mentioned above seem to have the red. I have a hunch Old Country would be more suited. This is an 1880 log construction, completely renovated with gyproc walls but retains heavy, dark brown beams in the ceiling. I have an off white/taupe/greige stone brick wall in my kitchen, housing a wall oven and plumbing. I thought if I paint my kitchen cabinets Kingsport Gray, the stone wall would 'talk' to them, while Old Country walls might speak to the floor.
As a color layman, I find descriptions of the undertones and what it’ll look like under different light extremely helpful! The most helpful visually is the inserted pictures of that color on a wall in a room. I wonder if others would click on these more If the thumbnails included one or two of these pictures?
Good suggestion! I might have to implement that!
Thank goodness for these videos! I keep staying up way too late trying to figure out paint colors and create a more or less unified theme, and these videos help lower my color choosing insecurities.
"safe and pedestrian" - I agree. I like COLOR. Thanks, James, for introducing me, in another video, to Valspar's Cherry Taupe! Looking for an opportunity to use it.
This series is my first go to. I do explain to my clients that these delicious colors morph through the day a lot (which I like) but they need to be chosen carefully to morph together well. They can only be made up in the Aura product. I love them. Great explaining. Thank you.
Appreciate it Leslee!
Just painted my living room cake batter. It’s beautiful!
I would like to see a video on all warm neutrals.... your videos are very helpful - Thanks!!
You had me at the new 'go to' color of Plaster of Paris, which took the whole video, but loved all of your info! Thanks, my decisions just got a lot easier!
This is great. Cake batter would be a great main color. Could see it used on the walls with oak cabinets in a kitchen, when someone doesn't want to paint their oak, and help tone down the oak.
Another great video packed with information. A video on Plaster of Paris would be great! 👍🏼
I look forward to watching your latest videos each week. Could you please suggest colors for dark rooms facing a certain direction (east, west, etc). Also, a segment on what colors go with different wood tones would be wonderful. Thank you!
Exactly what I'd like! Ty!
Beautiful modern grays ❣️
I’m most excited about pent house, but plaster of Paris looks incredible too! Thanks for the video!!
You're very welcome!
I have a whole house interior I need to paint and picking paint for each room is overwhelming! I can't even really see samples on the wall because of how much the preexisting paint color cast red on light colors.. Now I'm considering something like a plaster of Paris just to wipe the current hideous paint pallet. Plaster of Paris on all the walls and Chantilly lace for the trim. I feel like then I could go back and do accent walls, or at least invision something other than the crazy orange, burgandy, and brown scheme the previous owner just adored.
Great colors for me. Thanks.
I have penthouse as my whole house color for 6 years already. It has held up phenomenal. Kids handprints blend in. :) I used eggshell sheen and matte in one room. Matte somehow brings green out while eggshell is quite taupe in comparison. I also wonder if formula changed or the eggshell paint aged because there was 6 years in between these 2 sheens.
I also have Alleys earring in kids bedrooms. It’s light, sometimes looks barely there gray and sometimes - barely there yellow. It goes very well with bright clean colors.
I think I could really go for Plaster of Paris for every room of my condominium. Thanks for sharing it, and all of the new neutrals, with us.
One and done!
So I have a new white kitchen and got a sample of Ally’s earnings, my walls are currently a medium green and need to lighten them up, I’m thinking I like it but no eye for color or design so I may get a few more samples, maybe something a tad darker with a bit more grey/green before final decision but Ally’s earring is really growing on me the more I look at it on different walls. Thanks for all the info!
My friend just painted her entire house in plaster of Paris. It’s gorgeous. The colors are different under different lighting conditions. Just incredible!
Green is gooood! 👍🏻
Sea salt is beautiful!
Great review of neutrals
Love sea salt
Oh my god . . . "Plaster of Paris" CSP-185 is B E A U T I F U L. I'm going the Benji's today! Loved this video.
What gray is the same hue as Kilz2 Gray primer? We love the xolor and want to paint the kitchen.
Hey guys thank you for these videos! I am creating a color palette for my apartment and this is amazing!
I am loving your videos!
was wondering if you have or thinking of doing a video on how to select wall and furniture colors/shades/tones etc to to vest suit your flooring type and color.
For example, I have walnut laminate and want to paint my study walls a nice light yellow (maybe hex FFF0AD) and my bookcase and closet in a nice super dark purple to Xiketic). But I worry the yellow may clash with flooring.
That's definitely the type of content we want to build towards. We're mainly focussed on paint, but dabbling in design would be fun!
I like the idea of Plaster of Paris. I have always been a Navajo White person but looking for something new.
Old soul and sea salt are beautiful
You had me at “Paris”
I liked all of them except for the more gray grays, but I think my favorite is Plaster of Paris.
I like it too!
Any chance you could review farrow and ball colors?
Hi can you recommend a lighter alternative to bm elmira white? It's a bit too dark but I love the taupe colour.
You had me at “Cheeky” hahaha
I'm a total color newbie. My self-expression during my current paint experience has been sadly limited to "oh, darn, not at all what I was going for". What do I need to look for in a warm neutral wall in a guest bath that will NOT turn pink in the afternoon sun?
Pent House is my fav then Sea Salt. ❤️
After watching this helpful video, I started to look more closely at the CSP colors. Please consider doing a video on Paper Doll (CSP-485) and Barely There (CSP-725). I found Paper Doll listed as a purple, but on my walls it's a fascinating light neutral - almost like a Calm with a touch of green undertones. It could be an amazing light neutral for those with the right lighting. Take a look at it. Barely there is also an amazing light neutral. Take a look.
I love Sea Salt and Penthouse - both CSP colors. Building a new house in Austin, Texas and thinking of potential colors for my two story entry walls.
Really LIKE Old Soul, Sea Salt and Skipping Stone! Cake batter, however, looks unappealing like cake batter.
This was very helpfull.
I'm glad!
Can you compare the paint color Swiss coffee in the Behre and Ben. Moore brands?
Plaster of Paris for landlords. Sea Salt for my own home.
i like skipping stone. I am waiting for you to give a tutorial on Brown. That is where i leaning now i am planning to repaint.
Could you make a video on how to chose paint for a room which has raw natural wood accents?
Any paint with a yellow undertone will compliment the wood
I would be interested in your take on PPG. Color Shark. And Gypsum
Plaster of Paris. Would that work with southwest desert 🌆 colors? I want a whole house wall color to accompany desert sunset colors (accent palette).
Loving your videos. I'm going to use Aegean Teal on an accent wall but need a main room colour for my main floor open concept space. I'm not loving greige and my house doesn't have a lot of natural light. Some good suggestions to consider in your video.
If it matters to you, supposedly accent walls have been outed as of 2021.
What colour, including undertones, is your flooring and what exposures are your windows? I have a similar situation as you have described, I think. My open concept has two larger southfacing windows, an east and west facing window.
Hi James.. thanks again for guiding us on painting. Quick question. What is the best color combination with Revere Pewter. I am trying paint my entry with a different color and little bit deeper than Revere Pewter. I was thinking of Cosmopolitan . Any other suggestion please.
Revere Pewter shines with bold color accents, but is also soothing and relaxing with calm cool colors like blue or green. You'll want to sample this color before committing because, like most greiges, your available light can change this color from light to dark quickly.
Thank you for great review! Can you please discuss Aura CSP-760 Oil Cloth & CSP-810 Chimichurri? Both fantastic greens. Thanks in advance!
Could you please talk about greenish neutrals
Plaster of Paris !
I love the videos but what do you suggest for a white paint with gray undertones? My cabinets are white. Floor is gray. I need something to offset the two colors so it wont be over bearing on both.
Sherwin Williams Crushed Ice is a neat color. It’s classed as an off white with with gray undertones. It’s warm and light. I think a light blue-gray would be really pretty or a light sage green if you want a bit more color.
I did a search for “Perspective paint” and this video came out and I am so glad it was actually mentioned. I am going to try it as a main color! You had me at “freshly poured concrete” 🤤. It would be nice to have a whole video on it wink wink 😉. Wall Street looks like a nice color, too bad I would never try it based on the name 🤣, too many associations with Corruption!
Haha! I love how Wallstreet is out but "freshly poured concrete" is in!
I'm thinking of going Japandi, and looking for some good color options to make it work. Maybe these would be good for it? Perhaps some of the 2022 greens would be nice as well 🤔
Hoping you do a video on Japandi
It's been requested so it's on the list!
Looking for a color to go with oak cabinets and lots of natural light for a kitchen and dining room. The decor will be blue and white
how does the nuances in this paint compare to farrow and ball?
Hi Thank you for your videos , can we do terracotta/clay accent with plaster of paris ??
I think so! I think it would look great!
I love all the neutrals you are highlighting. If the family room /kitchen walls are BM 199 barley and the trim is mayonnaise, what neutral would you suggest as an accent color. The floor as white oak natural stain. What would you suggest for cabinets or counters?
Hard to say without seeing the space. Have you looked at BM Wild Mushroom for an accent?
@@thepaintpeople I will look at that color and maybe consider it for the general tone of the cabinets or countertop? Would you like to see a snapshot of the room now?
Love your work! Would love to see neutrals that go with blue and blue with soft green fabrics. Thanks.
Hi Mary Jean, thanks for watching. Warm neutrals will really make your blue fabrics pop ;)
LOL! Cheeky Little Viewer!! I can identify with that😆
Great information!! Just one correction, Benjamin Moore Aura paint colours are completely different than Colour Stories paint colours. I have Sea Salt in my hallway and love it!! Thanks again!!
Are you referring to the Affinity Color Collection?
Would you please recommend a white to go with Dulce de Leche CSP 250? Thank you !
Hi Rosella, I'd go with anything warm but how about BM Swiss coffee or white opulence?
@@thepaintpeople thank you for the reply. I have a hit mess to deal with and choosing a color has been a nightmare. Your videos are great tools in this process.
I love this channel. I’m a neutral cooler color person.
Ohhh me too! What's your fave?
I like the plaster of Paris and the dulce one.
I think the swatch for cake batter (@ 5:24) is shown against the wrong room... It looks reeeally gray
James, we miss your new content on your fragrance channel :(
I have a sage green wall to wall carpet and am looking for a neutral (not too gray). What colors would you recommend? Thanks
Hi Shawn, if you want the carpet to pop, maybe something like BM Baby Fawn, which has some pink in its undertone. If you wanted to subdue the green in the carpet or have it contrast less, then I'd look for a color with a green undertone like a Revere Pewter.
@@thepaintpeople thanks so much. I really like Baby Fawn but it may be a little too dark for my small living room. Any other suggestions a little lighter? Regards
Do you have any recommendations on a neutral color for a small bathroom with no natural light that has blue decorations??? Thank you! Love your content ❤️
Dove White or Natural Linen (Sherwin Williams)
Or the comparable shades by Ben Moore
What medium or medium light wall colors would go well with SW Dover White kitchen cabinets?
Depends on your flooring color . . .
@@ticktock2383 Can change floor color. Choosing new wood floors
Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams is beautiful with Dover White Cabinets. Exactly the color combo I have used!
@@HEARTANDSOULOFMINE Thanks Nancy, I will consider that color!
Can i paint" my whole inside house whit 2 color only? One for trims and 1 for the walls? And the furniture i need a contrasted color totally difference to the walls and trims ?
Are you planning on painting the furniture, or is it wood and upholstery? What are the floors like?
Tiles 18x18
Do not do an antique white/offwhite walls and then white for trim. Walls will look dirty.
I'm kinda getting tired of neutrals. Ho hum. How about a video on purples & lavender? Love your videos. The one on my other favorite color, teal was great. But it's difficult to put purple in a home & it not look garish. Whatcha got?
I have a one colour solution for my whole home “revere pewter” oh course, but I’m looking for a slightly lighter tone for a south facing room, that I use as a meditation/plant/yoga room. I do like cooler tones to warm tones, but I detest anything with blue undertones. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Use what you like
James, I have a challenge for you .. what color(s) would you recommend for a bedroom with little /no natural light? Something that warms the space but it’s pink or peach... Asking for a friend😂
Hmmm. Have you checked out First Light? 😎
@@thepaintpeople sorry, meant to say Isn’t pink or peach.. it’s a harder challenge then that👀
Haha! Maybe something like Swiss coffee? A beautiful cream
Predictable😌 but acceptable😂 thank youuu!
@@thepaintpeople I'm going to check your suggestion out!
Do you ever do Valspar
We have a few videos on it, yes!
My boyfriend thinks you should be wearing a turban....but it might be that he has had a few drinks!! Love your show.
😁
How would you pair these new neutrals with trim color?
FYI- you have the irl pic of pent house labeled as cake batter
Yeahhh! Noticed that. I have it as a pinned comment to clarify. Thanks for keeping an eye out for us! 😊
Is Sea Salt recommended or discouraged for bathrooms because of the green undertone making your skin look sick 🤢 ?
Depends on the lighting. I think fluorescent lighting is more the culprit.
Perspective
I really liked wall Street and dolce de leche
Can you talk about Tapestry Beige ..B. Moore...and Analytical Grey from S Williams
Yes please..... what accent colors can be used w tapestry beige. Can I use it in a well lit foyer with "brown" antique sideboard and gold gilded mirror?
Let me know when you some orange suggestions
Oh God almighty! I don’t want a wall paint called ,Wall Street ;) I feel like I’m being rubbed , I guess I’m an old soul 😊
What about dark paints?
I might want to talk about dark greens in the near future...
Dark paints are OK for an accent wall, but not the whole room. Would make one feel claustrophobic.
I think you got the Cake Batter color swatch wrong
This dude is cute
Apparently the gray pandemic still rages unabated.
Why do I feel like this is an infomercial?
I'm color blind cause im not seeing all that green and pink he's talking
No more Gray please 🤮
Haha I'll try something more colorful next week. 🤣
No! I love the varieties of grey! I’m trying to match two walls up that have 1) a true grey and 2) something to harmonize with an ivory carpet and wall. I don’t want them to clash...been thru sooo many swatches...any suggestions? Not afraid of depth. BM fan though
Oops.....
That should read rug and sofa in ivory
@@marilynmaccallum9206 that's cool it's just I'm ready to move on from the gray pallet it's played long enough.. bring on the cheerful colors
@@fayfrederick Try a warm light beige or natural linen. Looks great in all seasons.
Momma these aren’t new. CSP has been around for years.
Loose the hat, your are inside and an adult making great recommendations, not a kid rapper in a music video. Look the professional part you are.
Haircuts are hard to come by during lockdown...
@@thepaintpeople I like the hat but I'm not clear on etiquette!!!!
Who cares if he wears a hat inside making a video about paint? I'm not watching him for high fashion tips. I'm leaning on his expertise about paint.
Do you offer consultations? I have a condo with an open LR, DR, and kitchen consisting of a jumbo of many different undertones present in cabinets, tile, carpeting, and fixtures. Contractor used SW Whole Wheat for the entire 1700 sq foot of our 3 bedroom, 2 bath lakeside condo in TN. After 13 years, I need to repaint and desire a change from whole wheat. Condo built in 2007.
Assalam_o_Alaikum
You speak more and more but do not give us pictures view ti understand please because pictures give more detail to UNDERSTAND the NON NATIVE PEOPLE
