- I've been getting lots of comments and messages seeking for help on the beginner overflow which I've shared a while back.

I would say I've managed to help each and everyone that have messaged me privately.
However, there are some who have not gotten any success from my previous DIY video based on the comments received.
Hence, I would like to that this opportunity to show everyone that this design indeed works and by making it a transparent overflow, it will show you how it actually work and behave.

This is excellent! I made one for an aquarium outflow to a sump.
It took two attempts to get it right, but it gives me a full siphon to the sump.
The siphon breaks when the level gets too low.
This is the best outflow siphon I have ever seen. Thank you.

Hi there, I just would like to share that I built the exact same overflow based on your instructions and using 40mm pipes, I paid attention to all the mistakes that people made and avoided all of them. The workflow worked straight away! What I want to work on now is an easy way to determine how I keep the water level of the fishtank where I want without impacting in the capacity of this workflow. Also to help others with flow capacity, I have a 3000 liter per hour pump.
Hi Gus, if u noticed, the water level will stop at the height of the Tee connector. So u need to adjust the height of ur overflow accordingly.

Tuan..saya ada 2 problem tentang overflow ni..kelmarin letrik tiada, bila letik dah jalan..overflow pipe tak jalan..saya dah cuba..bila matikan pump sekejap overflow pipe akan sedut balik..bila pump mati lama..kena set balik masukkan air ke dlm pipe

Pipe pendek dalam tank selalu menyedut makanan ikan..so apa perlu saya lakukan..nak tambah panjang sedikit lagi kah pipe pendek tu..
Paip pvc ada pakai cement tak? Klu tak pakai, rasa ada leaking, so air akan terkeluar dari paip pvc. Bila air keluar udara akan terperangkap..overflow tak akan berjalan secara automatic
K. Pipe pendek akan sedut air, oleh itu makan ikan akan disedut masuk jugak. Cari floating food feeder, makan ikan akan perangkap didalam floating feeder saja.
Pipe tak cement sepenuhnya..ada part saya cement..ada part saya sambung..baik nanti saya check..terima kasih atas info😍

Thank You, its a Great idea use transparent pipes.
Acrylic elbow and T connector are not cheap, so be prepared to burn a hole in your pocket if you decide to use the transparent type. I used this for educational purpose because many who had tried it had issue with the overflow not working properly.

Pakai paip diameter yg lebih kecil utk paip pendek.

This is good but I think overall it's safer for your house to use an overflow box with an adjusted height to match your level, then you never have to worry about the siphon breaking and restarting, you will need to watch for air accumulation in either type of siphon setup

How do you adjust the water level of the tank while the pump is running? Because I can see that the tank is full up to its edge because of the height of the pipes. Is there any way to work around with this?

Where did you get the clear tubing and joints used in this video? I would love to make my overflow exactly the same so I can see the water flow and ensure it is functioning properly
These are clear acrylic material, not really advisable because if you screw up with the bonding process, the final result will be extremely ugly and risk of having leaks.

First, U need to check if your longer pipe is fully primed or not. Then in order for the overflow to work at 100% rate, all the air needs to be sucked out. If u see during the restart. The water will rise higher until the overflow starts siphoning, then then water level will drop when it gets balanced

From shopee (China seller), but they are not cheap. Also, have to use solvent to bond the parts together as the acrylic fittings are lose as compared to PVC fittings.

That is all up to you to decide what length do you want for your own setup. You need to decide on your own at which height the water should stop and if the water displacement from the main tank can fit into your sump tank.

Hello i have tried your method, even though was working ok on the test, the inflow water was a lot more than tha outflow because of the 2 pipes. Out flow pump was working at max. When i used a ball joint to control the inflow, when it stopped the syphon it couldnt start again any advise? I understand its because of the ball control joint
If the overflow is able to restart itself but it requires more time. It could be ur sump tank doesn’t have sufficient water to allow your overflow to kickstart back. You might need a larger sump tank

Maaf saya agak ketinggalan menonton video kamu 2 tahun lepas.. Saya sudah mengenalpasti beberapa masalah dalam ruangan komen sebelum sy membina overflow yg sama.. Sy dapat kesan 2 masalah..
1. Overflow tidak beroperasi selepas water in dimatikan dan dihidupkan kembali.. (blackout)
Jadi jawapan yg sy jumpa dalam ruangan komen ialah mengecilkan saiz paip overflow yg pendek.. (betul atau salah)
2. Semasa auto kickstart semasa blackout ini berlaku, water level akan meningkat sehingga memenuhi tank sebelum sistem overflow kembali bekerja seperti biasa.. Soalannya adakah cara untuk mengelakkan water level melimpah semasa kickstart beroperasi kerana sy letak akuarium dalam rumah?

2. Sump tank ada beberapa compartment. Pastikan Utk compartment pump, bila segala air yg dipump masuk ke tank utama, pastikan dia tidak melimpah keluar jika overflow langsung tidak berfungsi
Bos saya dah buat seperti itu pakai pipa 3/4 tapi pas mati lampu.
Kemudian listrik nyala lagi tapi air ga bisa keluar dari part yg panjang yg diarahkan je sam filter.

First, I want to tell you that I LOVE your channel!!! I think I have watched most of your videos at least once! But I need help -- I tried building the overflow shown in this video, but failed. I don't understand why. I copied you step by step (watching the video while building the overflow), I paid attention to all the tips and warnings, but couldn't get it to work. The only thing I can think of is that the long tube inside the aquarium (not the siphon break tube) needs to be longer? Does the intake for that tube need to be lower than the loop on any of the other tubes in the overflow? I thought I understood the simple physics of siphons --- but clearly I don't!! Help, please!

1. Adjust the height of the shorter pipe to match where the water will stop siphoning from ur tank.
2. Reduce the diameter of the shorter pipe so that, less time is required to suck out the air

Check balik overflow kamu, paip panjang ada sedut air ke tidak. Sump tank cukup air utk overflow restart balik dengan sempurna ke tidak.

Means the setup is not proper. U need to ensure ur longer pipe is fully primed. Else same issue will happen.

kamu kena adjust ball valve secara perlahan sehingga kadar aliran jadi seimbang. Ini akan mengambil sedikit masa untuk mencari balance point dia
Hi bos. Sy ada masalh 😂. Over flow jalan elok, tp air turun lagi laju pada pum sedut. Klu sy slow kn air turun walaupun sikit, pum akan lagi laju pada air turun. Last2 banjir jugak 😂😂😂
1. kamu kena kira dulu water displacement dari main tank dulu. Bermaksud bila pump berhenti, air yang disedut balik ke dalam sump tank, boleh muat ke tidak. Klu tak muat..confirm banjir la.
2. Overflow diy yang tak tebuk lubang menggunakan prinsip, sedutan air. Dia memang bukan overflow yang sebenar. So air yang disebut masuk ke sump tank dan air yang di pumpkan balik ke main tank kena sama. Klu tak balance, maka akan ada 2 kemungkinan.
2.1 bila overflow lebih cepat daripada pump - air di main tank akan rendah, air di sump tank akan tinggi. Overflow akan sentiasa sedut dan berhenti, sedut dan berhenti.
2.2 bila pump lebih laju daripada overflow - air akan kering pada bahagian sump tank di mana pump tak dapat nak sedut lagi air daripada sump tank
3. Kamu kena adjust ball valve dekat overflow sikit demi sedikit sehingga ia berpadan dengan kadar aliran pump. Kalau overflow terlalu laju, maka kena slowkan kadar aliran dekat overflow.
4. Kalau pump terlalu kuat eg. Pakai 8000L/H tapi overflow hanya mampu sokong sampai 4000L/H, maka kena letak control dekat pump
4.1 sambung ball vavle. Rendahkan kadar aliran pump
4.2 sambung kat T dan baru sambungkan Ball valve. Air extra masuk balik ke sump tank, so flow rate kat pump tak direndahkan, tapi hanya control quantiti air yg naik balik ke main tank

ikut suka hati kamu..nak sampai dasar pun boleh..nak kat tengah tank pun boleh..tapi yg paling penting..paip pendek kamu kena selaras sgn paras T di luar overflow kamu. kalau paras T tu salah letak, eg. kat tengah atau dasar tank, maka, air akan sedut sampai paras tu je...so akan banjir la, klu tak setup dgn betul.

Yep. Overflow worked, but a long pipe of overflow isn't work , a short pipe of overflow is strong work. How do a long pipe of overflow strong work?

Saya sudah praktekan ttapi kenapa saat air berhenti di tee konektor dan overflow berhenti, lalu saya isi kembali air di tank kenapa tidak otomatis bekerja kembali overflownya ya?di video pertama ada end cap(dop) di pipa pendek itu dilubangi dibagian samping saja?apakah lubangnya tertutup dengan pipa atau tidak?
sila pastikan paip panjang anda menyedut air ke tidak, paip panjang perlu mempunyai air 100%, jika terdapat udara di paip panjang, overflow tidak akan berfungsi dengan betul. tidak apa jika tidak menggunakan end cap di paip pendek. message saya di facebook messenger, saya nak lihat setup kamu.

Saya sudah mengaplikasikan sistem ini dan sudah berjalan cm terkadang aliran airnya tidak stabil jadi air di sumfilter terkadang tekor tetapi nanti normal kembali
Sebab ada udara terperangkap kot, klu kamu tengok video saya, udara akan asyik kena sedut jika pipe pendek tidak tengelam kat dalam paip pendek
Di video saat pompa menyala kembali, akuarium hampir penuh, apakah overflow terlambat mengalir? Bagaimana menjaga aliran tetap seimbang antara pompa dan overflow saat pompa dihidupkan kembali?
Piping kena pasang dengan betul. Piping pendek kena sama paras dengan T connector supaya sedutan air sepenuhnya dapat berlaku dengan jangka masa yang pendek.

Saiz diameter untuk paip pendek. Dengan menggunakan diameter yang lebih kecik bermaksud masa untuk menyedut keluar udara akan jadi singkat sedikit.

Transparent super mahal..sbb material dia pakai acrylic. Sy buat video no sbb ramai yg buat overflow jenis ni pakai paip pvc tapi ada masalah.. so sy buat yg transparent utk tunjukkan kenapa kesilapan berlaku. Tak berbaloi utk buat jenis transparent..nanti ada algae jadi kotor..tak cantik pulak.
Bagaimana mengatasi overflow yang meluap dikarenakan listrik padam?

Adjust kadar aliran air overflow anda, kalau overflow sedut lebih laju, udara akan sedut masuk, itu sebab dia bising.

apakah part yang panjang harus tidak ada udara sama sekali
Tak beberapa faham soalan anda. Paip yg panjang tidak boleh ada udara terperangkap. Ia mungkin akan menyebabkan sedutan air berhenti.

Utk paip 25mm, boleh support pump sehingga 4000 L/H. Paip lebih besar, lagi besar kadar aliran lph blh disupport. Sy tak buat saiz berlainan, so sy tak dapat nak bagi jawapan ini
Ya..yang advance lebih slow sikit sbb. Dia ada pakai paip 20mm dan hose air yg saiz lebih kecil utk di masukkan kedalam paip 25mm.

Sorry, there is no exact measurement, you will need to measure ur own-self based on your own tank setup
