It’s crazy how far Geiger counters have come, they used to be huge and now they are small
Some of those large ones (like CD 700 and similar units) are still based on transistors and very simple technology. They are repairable and quite robust. Depending on the tube, they can have large tubes as well (or large scintillation probes size of a soda can that are way more sensitive than small CsI crystall like in radiacode).
For average use and not very low count range Radiacode 101 is quite nice and compact. You get a rough estimate for the energy too that allows you to identify the source of radiation.
These are crystal scintillators, not Geiger counters
@@LegacyVision. thank you for correcting me, I don’t know much about this stuff, I see radiation detector thing that makes a clicky sound and think Geiger counter
And very inexpensive!!!
@@LegacyVision.Exactly. Can't even detect beta like a real GM Tube.
6:54 This is a key benefit of a scintillation counter. When a ray hits a Geiger Muller tube, the meter merely knows that a ray hit the tube. It doesn't know the energy. But when a ray hits a scintillation crystal, the meter knows the energy level of the ray. Thus, calibration of a Geiger counter is for a particular source, assuming the energy of its rays. With a source of different energy, the same count per minute would be a different exposure. With a scintillation detector, the meter can tell the differences in energy (exposure) even if the counts per minute is the same.
A great thing about the spectral logging is that it's always running while it's on. So you could accumulate it for a while standalone, then later power it on and connect to the phone app to examine and download it.
Thanks for making this video. These spectrometers are great! I really want one, but they sure do cost a lot. For a professional tool, they're not that expensive, but they're a lot of dosh for an individual to spend. At least I have my Terra-P Plus. Even those have gone up in price by 50% more than I paid two years ago.
I own these devices and many others also, they are very robust devices, and I carry mine everywhere.
It looks like the 102 has a higher resolution than the 101.
In this video when they were both next to each other you could see that the plus/minus accuracy on the 102 was twice as good.
If you are looking for a good all round meter that will read Alpha/beta/gamma and X-ray.
Radalert by SE international is a good unit.
Great video! I want one for sure
Just bought mine!!
Was thinking of buying one of these and taking it around the outside perimeter of the Nevada Test Site.
Bring a shovel to get under the surface a bit, there is definitely some radiation trapped in the soil
I've been trying to fine if there was anything bad about theses but it's exactly what I've been looking for and the price is incredibly reasonable, especially with all the features this has. I collect antiques of the spice verity and hunt for Uranium in the desert of the southwest US, so this is perfect!
Good!!! 😎👍
If you open it could you waterproof the PCB with anything typical waterproofing for electronics? not sure about the tube contacts but it would be a lot better still i think
I do like the RadiaScan, since can remove the lid to choose what to detect, alpha, beta, gamma, but without that sort of control one has to guess a bit whenever the sample is actually harmful or not.
Also, doesn't appear to show on screen the kind of radiation is receiving, unless you know the element.
I do like to know what's hitting me before panicking.
Thanks for the info on the company relocating. I knew they were in Russia so I wasn’t even considering buying one now.
*which unit has a more accurate clock, and is the clock a RTC that self corrects based on resets and temperature?*
They are still based in Russia, just some production opened in Cyprus to deal with international orders.
I have the radiacode. Sensitivity is good for such a small device, but resolution is quite poor, FWHM is around 12% making it hard or impossible to pick out lots of isotopes.
Definitely not a laboratory grade instrument but spec has been improved to 9-10pct in the 102 version. Good enough to give you a pretty good idea of what's there
What's a more sensitive instrument than this one?
@@fredharvey2720 perhaps the RAYSID frrom Poland. But of course you can get this not for such a cheap price like the RadiaCode.
It's been a few months, is this thing still working well?
@weaponsandstuff93 I remember watching a video about an Israeli m15 being able to take a m40 and m45 VPU and I was wondering if you can try this out cuz I’m very curious about this and also I don’t have an m15 and a m40 vpu yet
(The video is called “Israeli m15 and VPU’s”)
Why in the starting of the video the cpm is 600?? Why is it so much
Thinking of getting this one. Do you know when the second video will drop? Thanks.
Hopefully will get around to it in the next week or two, been really busy recently, if you check out my Radiacode 101 review it's basically the same thing but better anyway.
I just ordered the 103, I had a discount code and an intro price so I got it for 303 Euro.
Full review still coming?
Also awaiting the full review
Is the gamma spectrometry pretty accurate?
Its about type of dirt detection and power of detection (about distance)
How much are they
Less 300€
At how many cps / cpm does it max out?
I got it to about 3 million CPM before so it goes higher than that, not sure the total.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 Tank you for your reply, 3million?! Thats very high, the Gmc 500plus maxed out at 200k if I remember correctly from your video.😳
Or is that just because its 20x more sensitive?
Im not goimg to ask why you have kobold60 or how ever it's spelled
He uses it to demonstrate proper functionality of Geiger counters
@@filteredview9302 okey that makes sense I guess I can't talk I'm the guy with a mk4 US navy diaphram optical mask
Could you do some reviews in gas masks/helmets from the ukraine war?
Take a Chinese riot helmet
Too much talking about nothing....
