Thanks so much for watching! I realize that this is my first video and I didn't have the best equipment when filming it but I tried my best with a lot of edits in Final Cut Pro. After filming the video, I went out to buy some new camera, audio and light gear so that my future videos can be better!
In my future videos, I will be talking about the Software Engineer lifestyle from the perspective of a college student and also some of my college experiences.
Furthermore, I want to share my experiences with recruitment and interviewing with many different tech companies and provide videos on how to recruit, passing the technical and behavioral tech interviews, and finding a tech internship/full-time job.
Finally, I want to provide tutorials for beginners to help them with learning to code because I feel that it is a super helpful skill to learn!
Make sure to like andsubscribe if any of those appeal to you!

This video hits home cuz my parents have always had high expectations of me and wanted me to become a doctor for a stable salary and career. However, I don’t know if I can work up to the high GPA standards of 3.8 (except maybe 3.5) or shadowing or volunteering all the time. Additionally 4 years med school when I could be enjoying the prime of my life??? I want that BALANCE in my life and be able to have time to experience new things! At the same time, I don’t wanna disappoint them, but then also this is MY life. This video was pretty helpful so I thank you for uploading this content!

Same, also med school you still have to take possibly like 3 years of residency so that's like 7 years of not getting paid plus 4 years of hard studying but some people get jobs for CS from the get go and even get stocks if some FAANG company. I was forced into premed lol but I was thinking of switching

Don't worry, one of the Vet Med Schools in US have a minimum 2.25 GPA so just enjoy your college life without anxiety over your GPA, at least your parents' wish of you getting a "doctor" title in front of your name can still come true. You can even attend an online overseas Podiatry school in Europe's educational system PGCert>MSc>PhD
(UCV Spain: PG Certificate International Podiatry+Univ Cordoba: Diabetic Foot Certificate then Queen Margaret Univ MSc Advance Practice in Podiatry) with your choice to select a practicum spot in your home country and after graduation you can still be able to work in USA by starting your career at American Samoa coz their territory law accepts overseas trained Podiatrists then you can jump to Utah later via reciprocity license (no need APMA license). Or start in Canada then jump to North Dakota(after 2 years of Podiatry practice) via reciprocity because that's North Dakota's state law condition for reciprocity applicants.
Even some Dentistry schools don't care about your GPA, as long as you have money for paying the tuition fee.

Hi I was in a similar situation as you except I went all the way in the medical field. I have a B.S in biology, Minor in chemistry, and doctorate in pharmacy. My asian parents had certain exceptions of me that I felt I had to achieve even though I never enjoyed the medical field. Now that I'm a pharmacist, I detest it. The outlook for pharmacist jobs is declining along with decrease pay and work conditions each year. I can't see myself working in this field for the rest of my life. Like you, I never had any ambitions toward any subject so I just chose a career that my parents would be proud of. Now I'm considering computer science. I'm going to start by teaching myself how to code and see how that goes. If it goes well, I'm planning to be a full time pharmacist while getting my B.S in computer science which will take 2 years through a post-bacc program. Hopefully I can transition fully into computer science career. Looking back, I was really good with technology when I was a kid. I was the 12 year old kid on the phone with the IT guy trying to fix my dad's computer and I did enjoy it. I just never considered technology because I had no one to talk to. Thank you for your video, it has motivated me to move on with my decision.

As someone with a 4 year degree in CS, I HIGHLY recommend against it. Just go to a 6 month bootcamp that has a high job placement %. Or one that you don’t have to pay until they land you a job. Going to school for 4 years in CS was a hugeeee waste of time for most people since you will start your first job with a whole bunch of bootcamp graduates anyways. Only reason to even consider it is if you want to do data science (in which you’ll need a masters in CS)

Man I’m bout to be a freshman in college in literally bout 2 months and I’m still contemplating about my major. I picked nursing but just recently I got interested in computer science after I fixed my computer lol. All my life like you I wanted to become a nurse, but I heard nowadays their so burnout and mostly underpaid which is ridiculous. I just don’t know anymore what to do. But with computer science I’m not too good with math and know nothing about coding, but I’m up for the challenge. Hopefully I make the the right decision for what’s best for me mentally.

Thank you for the video! You really helped me a lot!
I'm from Brazil, 20 years old, and currently finishing the second year in the med school of Federal University of Paraná. Every new semester is such a pain for me that I end up anxious and frustrated.
Here is some background. My grades are good. I had created an extension project called "Learning Support Project", which aims to discuss evidence-based learning (through Anki) and other things with graduate students and professors. Also, the professor who helped me create it has already invited me to her research group. The point is that everything I'm involved has nothing directly to do with medicine. Everyday I see my friends saying that they are loving the rotations, internships, the contact with patients (even though, because of the pandemics, the workload of practical classes has decreased), the clinical cases... I don't feel the love and the enthusiasm of them. I don't like the hospital atmosphere. I don't even see myself as a physician, regardless of the specialty.
In my country the process to enter the college, although some are free, involves one taking a test about all the high school subjects. I passed the test in my first attempt, even though the college I applied to had huge competition. In Brazil, there is nothing like two years studying biology and after this entering medical school. Here, after one pass the entrance exam for medical school, he stays 6 years studying from the basics sciences to the clinical competencies. Here, medicine has the most difficult admission exam of all the other college courses.
After telling you my background, I wanna say that I'm not happy being a med school student. I'm worried about continuing the course and ending up frustrated and putting patients' lives at risk. I get really excited every time I try to do some coding or deal with digital design. Also, I love philosophy and psychology. Everything I like to do, all the talent I have, doesn't seem to fit into the practice of treating patients with a disease. My reasons for taking the entrance exam for medicine were simply the fascination for the brain and the huge cliche family pressure and judgement.
I haven't quitted yet, but I'm very thoughtful and sad.
Can anyone give me some light telling about your experience? I'm very afraid of giving up and not getting support from my family, besides fearing that I won't find my way anymore.
You know... Med school is very very difficult. And, if I don't love the profession, how could I pass through it?

    • @mohamedjaidi203
      @mohamedjaidi203 2 роки тому +8

you don't know how much i am happy and exciting to read ur comment, when i read ur comment, i said ' that's me!!" ..we have alot in common.
I am from Yemen, and currently finishing the 2nd year in the med school, i had yesterday exam in the pharmacoloy and the final exam will be next week in the epidemiolgy.
in our country the processing to enter collage as same as ur country, i passed the test in my first attempt with huge competition.. i have a friend from the high school and he applied 3 times to enter the med school ,unfortunatly, he couldn't pass. so he entered dentistry instead of waste the time but he still have incredible passion to study medicine and be physicion. ( that surprise me and make me respect him so much).
when i was child i wanted to be a doctor like my father, i studied hard in school and got high degrees. after the high school i knew about programming and i loved it, so i purchased laptob and i learned web developing languages.
after i entered to the med school, i felt like it is not what i wanted.. no enthusiam, no passion to be physician and work in the hospital.
i couldn't imaging that will be my future.
Actully i love biology of human and many medical subjects, programmingg and engineering, i also love philosophy and psycology.
so i wanted to study somthing mix b/w medicine, computre scinece and engineering then accendently i found this domain it is called ' Biomedical engineering', unfortunnatly it does't tought here and i can't travel to study it, and my parents pressure me to continue studying medicine and be doctor.
on 10/2020 with the beginning of 2nd yr of the med school, i heared about AI and there is specialty called AI in medicine, i read alot about it and - it blued my mind - i decided to study it by self-learning beside my study in the med school (secretly, away from my family's eyes 👀 ), I knew also that I don't need for a degree to get a job in AI field.
My advice to u is to know what really u want, what u want to be and what the value u will give to the world?
I don't recommend u to quit now from the med school before u become financially independent
Or you can switch to another college that u r indeed love it and u will continue.

Hi guys, how's it looking with y'all? I find myself in almost the same situation, and it's quite frustrating. Only I am still in the first year, and there are already many things that make me question my choice... The main one is the lack of logic. I don't know whether it's just Eastern Europe thing, but so far, the whole school is only about memorising textbooks and reproducing the exact words at the exam.. So far something like logical thinking, problem-solving is for no use. I am more interested in the research part of things and considering switching to biomedical engineering, because of my interest in BCI, neuroprosthetics, AI, and so on. So how is it looking with you guys, did you find some reasons for staying/moving to another school?

I'm a biology major and as a result I'm thinking about switching my major to software engineering. I'm currently a junior (one credit away from being considered a senior at my school). But if you can get through that, being a doctor would be an amazing career. The question you have to ask yourself is why is it you wanted to become a doctor? The reason I wanted to was 1) help people 2) prestige of the role 3) make money. My path to programming has been slow but I've really enjoyed it along the way. What excites me most about it programming is that I can build all the cool things I've always wanted. I'm my only limitation. Ultimately comes down to how you want to see your life play out! Why did you decide that investment banking, consulting, and SWE were the only viable career paths? @@Thelaughtershow364 I have a bachelor’s degree in Biochem and actually got into med school. I studied 1 year and then quit it. I don’t think the owner of this channel studied in medschool. He just change the major.
So basically, I finished all the general requirements since I hold a bachelor’s degree. Now, I just need to take prerequisites for CS program and study around 2 more years to get a CS degree. But it depends on how many classes I take so I can actually graduate sooner. So for med school, they need cal 1, cal 2, general phys 1, phys 2, etc. Some schools only need cal 2 for CS or they will ask for cal 3. Then 2 engineering/calculus Phys course. And 2 Foundation CS classes. Again, depend on schools, they have different requirements and extra classes you need to take. You can complete all that prerequisites in 2 semesters/quarters then apply.

Have you tried shadowing/scribing? You can see the life of a physician/computer scientist. Depending on the field/specialty you land in, certain science subjects aren't seen heavily in the day to day unless you decide to pursue research. As a physician, you will need to do a lot of charting which now adays is all on computer. You will also need to constantly try to update your knowledge to make sure that the care you are giving your patients is up to date. It is a lot of responsibility, but being able to change the lives of the patients in ways that the physician does is unique and hard to replace. The actual schooling is going to be challenging, but if you say you love the work of the physician, you will get several decades of fulfilling work after the 8 years average of schooling.
On the other hand, CS may be easier to get into, but if you say you would not like working purely with computers for the rest of your life, it might be challenging the next 20+ years. I don't have as much experience with CS however, so I can't speak much for it.
TL;DR: Shadow the fields and ask lots of questions. The amount of training required for any field is only a fraction of the experience. Think about actually being in the field for the next 20+ years.

Deciding majors is always a tough route and it took me a long time to figure out what I want to major in. For now, I would say definitely do research on the majors that you are thinking about and make a pros and cons chart to see which ones you would rather do and sometimes thats definitely super hard so you can take it slow! Sad to hear that being doctor represents nothing more than a mere job with high paycheck and good stability... How about helping people? Taking care of those in needs? Medicine should be a vocation (always patient-centered) and not a business

I totally agree with what you said. People shouldn't take this career path lightly because becoming a doctor requires a lifelong commitment to medicine and it'll feel like hell on earth if you have absolutely no interest in it in the first place. This also applies for any high-skilled career in the health field. The best healthcare providers are ones who have the most love for what they do.

Call me naive but I don't think money should be a major factor when deciding on a career path. I'm also guilty of this but I wish that wasn't the case.
I think if we didn't have to worry about the "paycheck", people wouldn't be so scared to explore different career paths. Most of us end up getting into Law, medicine, engineering, etc because of "money/prestige" but deep down, we know our heart's not in it. I know because I also made the same mistake.
Wishing you all the best, Coderay!
