The fact that Notion has so many advanced features but NO text alignment feature is crazy to me. Some of us want to use Notion in languages that are written from right to left??? Or just HAVE OUR TITLES ALIGNED TO THE CENTER???
Yeah they're pretty opinionated about formatting. I'd like to see them add more design features like that in the future. I do think RTL support is on the roadmap; my guess is its part of a larger localization project, and I think they're still working on some other languages.
Agree so much about creating property sections! I would also love the ability to create different layouts for different database templates so, for example, I could see just the properties that are template-specific and hide everything else
I agree that we need to be able to create multiple property groups. For some of my complex more databases, I want to be able to completely hide the background formula properties in the side panel, but keep the properties I'm actually going to edit in the body of the page.
Thank you! I was not going to stumble upon the Relations Group without someone pointing it out. That solves a major problem I was having with layouts. Hopefully we will be able to group together any properties we choose before too long.
I think they're going to make that easier to use soon - I've been pretty loud in my feedback about it. So that part of the video may be out of date soon 😁
@9:24 when you breakout a section to it's own layout, I do not see that option when I click on the section heading. All I see is Rename, Move Down and Delete.
My biggest problem with Notion is images. There's just no way to easily handle large groups of images, like mood boards or freeform galleries. Putting them in to a database is tragic overkill, and super unwieldly. So we have to put then in columns of certain widths. But we can't convert those columns, or easily move the columns around, or move the images around en masse. This area of Notion feels so backward. One of the dowsides of Notion forcing everything to be a "page" or database item.
I find it to be ok for some purposes, like my "Great Thumbnails" gallery that I maintain. But for other purposes, I do agree. I've often used Figma for this purpose instead.
Has anyone else experienced problems with existing templates not loading since this release? No matter what I do, my templates will-not-load. When I create a new task with my custom template, it just offers me the empty default view with the option to select a template. When I select my template there, I get the spinning wheel of death for a bit, then it just returns to the template selection. It's extremely frustrating - according to reddit, this problem has been around for years. But I only noticed it since this new release.
Hello! I love your videos and watch pretty much all of them. I was wondering, did you cover how to work with "Custom formula" inside buttons yet? I have tried to find more info on this topic, but so far no luck. If you did, pls can you send me a link? And if no, do you plan on doing so? Thx, you are the best!!!
@ThomasFrankExplains Right, iPad only working for travelers is a disaster. Also the fact that there is still no iPad app since Cron calendar after years is embarrassing and a no go. Notion is stubborn! The new layouts feature doesn’t work on Windows either. It’s a Mac only feature and that’s weak!
@@eMotionFlowing it's definitely not a Mac-only feature (I just doubled checked on my Windows PC). Maybe you were trying to customized a locked database?
So now that we can section properties - would having one database be ideal or would it get too complicated and Relations with multiple databases be preferable ? so that Notion doesn't lag on a long term basis For eg: A Content database with all its Sub Categories - Pillars, Process, Analytics etc.
Hey Thomas Frank, I wanted to know when you were going to make a new video on your main channel 'Thomas Frank'? and thanks for these videos on Notion, they are really great!
I'd like to create new videos there, but currently my schedule is completely full! In addition to running this channel, I'm building a SaaS startup: flylighter.com/ Hopefully I'll get some time in my schedule next year to make new vids over there.
Frank, do you know if there is any way to put a code block in the left side then a table on the right (or vise versa). I want to create a code database
Yes, just type /2c to create two columsn, then /table in one of them and /code in the other. You could also do all of this inside a Button block, where the action is "Insert Blocks". That'd make it reusable.
So relations don't have full functionality in the side panel? I find you can only ADD NEW records if the relation is in the side panel or you can remove a record, but you can't pick a pre-existing record. Is that just me? :)
That's just a Toggle block that I use for hiding pages, and on the Toggle block's title link I've just created some text links to often-used pages. More on that here: thomasjfrank.com/notion-links/#hyperlinks
I would live the ability to have a page background, like a website, lol. And to drag stuff to different areas, a bit like with web design. Notion is great, but......ugly, lol.
@@megankenway8757 move your properties over, then close the side panel. It remembers what you did last. So if you had it closed when you closed a doc, it will stay closed the next time you open another one in that database.

RTL support is so overdue
And Fonts please!

definitely above my head. Will save for later.
So much agree on the Property Sections! We just updated our PM database and that was the biggest feature that we need in there-for our team's hours.
can we get right to left writing aid in Notion? i hate that i cant write stuff in my mother language because its written R to L
i've been waiting for this. not to bash others, but so far no one's been able to connect the dots for me when it comes to custom layouts

No iPad support 😥
Yeah - the iPad app is definitely closer to the iPhone app than to the desktop/browser version

Hey Thomas, what do you think of Tana? Seems much more powerful than Notion, especially for single users workspaces!
I haven't gotten a chance to try it yet! So many apps, so little time. I do hear they have a pretty sick quick-capture app though.
@@ThomasFrankExplains the quick capture is very useful. But the concept of supertags is a killer. Would love your take on it some day! Have a nice one
Hi, I'm a student and need help. Can u make a video on
"How can I create a 5-year progress bar in Notion that updates automatically as time passes?"
since i have implemented layouts, all my workspace relations stopped working.....
Another mistborn fan.
Are you playing the cosmere RPG?
Would love to get you Ali and Andrew Kirby together.
Not a huge tabletop RPG guy, though I do love MTG!
But yeah, huge Mistborn fan. I've just started Way of Kings now :)
Good timing. Book 5 releases on December 6th. It is one of my highlights of the year.

The shortcut does not work on Icelandic keyboard unfortunately.
Yeah, shortcut coverage on non-US-English layouts aren't always perfect :/
I just want to hide properties completely without delete it.
This update is very good for that purpose!
@@ThomasFrankExplains I mean in every panel tho
Just add it to the side panel and keep it closed @@willymerdiansyah
